One problem with home ownership is finding people to do smaller jobs that most contractors don't…read morewant to bother with. Another is dealing with a municipality that demands everything to be done by licensed and insured contractors and has a list of their approved contractors but doesn't require them to show proof of workman's comp insurance (Orland Park). So right off the bat you're stuck either overpaying someone "approved" to replace a perfectly good deck or fence when all they need is some simple repair, or giving up and letting it stay broken. You can't fix it yourself because you're not an "approved contractor" and a lot of handyman services are just a guy with a truck. I found a flyer at my local Ace Hardware for these guys and saw they are both licensed and insured and on Orland's worthless approved contractor list. Communication was professional and they showed up on time to evaluate and give an estimate to do some work to the deck and fence. Our handyman recommended a deckover product for our older deck to help fill flaws and cracks. It's an older deck but still solid and not worth replacing yet. The product worked well and the work was done well too. He even suggested we go get the supplies to save some cash, which we did. He also installed a new fixture in the stairwell we've had for like three years because I couldn't figure out how to get up there to install it. We're happy with the results on our deck and light fixture install and looking forward to getting a few posts reset for the fence. We'll be using this service again for sure.

The landscaping in the front of our town home building hadn't been touched in several years. Weeds…read moreand overgrowth were everywhere, it was a mess. We contacted Design Concepts to come to the rescue. Within a couple hours, we had a callback from Dave. We scheduled a site visit and were impressed enough to move forward with a design. Dave came out a couple days later with a beautiful color drawing that detailed all of our possible options, presented an itemized quote of all the work that would be involved, and gave us a list of 15 references we could call on for peace of mind. We presented this to our town home association board and they were so impressed that they decided we should do the courtyard as well. We signed the paperwork and a few days later Dave and his crew were cleaning up all the weeds, removing overgrown trees and bushes, and trimming trees. Then they installed a beautiful stone walkway, fertilizers, mulch, a wonderful assortment of plants and bushes in the front and flowers in the courtyard. They cleaned up everything and provided us with watering instructions and plans to add to our design for next year. Its difficult to please all members of a town home or condo association but Dave and Design Concepts did the job. We plan on using them for many years for all of our landscaping needs. We also found out they do more than just landscaping and have already begun plans to have them work on the interior of our house.
