We have a long day biking along the canal and just wanted something to hold us over as I was more thirsty than hungry so we ordered a few dishes to share. I have to admit I am not a huge Indian food fan and we usually go with another couple who loves Indian food and let them order. Since we were on our own we tried different dishes. Had the fried fish appetizer (which I can't remember the name of) which was really good! The tandoori seemed a bit strong but when you had it when sauce it's out of this world! Ordered the tandoori chicken and was blown away by the presentation of the chicken. I am a big fan of crispy chicken skin but was amazed at the smoked flavor, crispness of the outside of the skinless chicken and then the tenderness of the chicken. Now I am wondering if I have been ordering Indian food wrong all my life or is this restaurant in Ottowa so exceptional? Also they are seriously good at literally everything that is on their menu. we tried the andhra coconut chicken curry, I was expecting it be oily and greasy but to my surprise - it not only looked good but tasted amazing! their naans can be done better but who cares when the basics are right. The food was delicious. The owner Sachin Lalit is friendly. Service was good. We were 8 people in party for dinner. We ordered Delhi ki Nali Nehari , Mixed Grill, Jaipuri Baigan Bharta, Aloo Tikki Chat, Achari Paneer, Madras Chicken. We all enjoyed good food. I was visiting from Los Angeles, California and we were happy to have delicious dinner at this restaurant. We highly recommend this restaurant for Indian food. This is a great find off the main Byward Market area. I stopped in for dinner and was not disappointed in the tasty Indian eats. The only place it was lacking was that service was a little slow, especially considering that the restaurant was near empty. I happened upon this restaurant after visiting the nearby National Gallery of Canada, and I'm so glad I did. The Kathal Masala (jackfruit cooked with fresh ginger, white onions, and tomato masala) is one of the best Indian dishes I've EVER had... and l eat a lot of Indian food. Service was great and they accepted the discount on Yelp, although hesitant at first. Wished the biriyani was less wet and less salty but the curry was delicious. Excellent! Moved from Toronto last year and have been missing good quality Indian food that is reasonably priced, especially for take-out/delivery. Have tried a few places in Ottawa including Haldi, Taj Mahal and Mia's. Taj Mahal was good for sit-down but definitely on the pricier side. Mia's is a little far for downtown and I don't think they deliver. Haldi is again a little further away and I wasn't big on their saag paneer Landed on this place on UberEATS but only because of their great prices and the only other reviewer on their page -- so thank you to you for reviewing this place Emilie V or I wouldn't have found it! Took a bit of a risk with only one review but really glad we did! Naan bread was huge, garlic naan even better with tons of delicious fresh garlic! Mutter paneer had plentiful paneer rather than pea soup you get in some places where they're cheap on the main part of the dish. Chicken 65 was fresh, tender, flavourful, good mix of spicy and sour. Both dishes had enough food for two meals. Chicken was less than $10 and paneer was $11ish -- very reasonable. I haven't been to Host Indian (one of the better rated in Ottawa) but the cost disparity will have to be justified by even better food for the extra $5-6 more you'll pay per dish. At first I had regretted ordering the rice pudding for dessert until I tasted it. Delicious! And frankly, I have no time for raisins in my rice pudding so this was perfect. Didnt even realize this place was here until we went wandering in the market looking for lunch during a work retreat! The restaurant is a buffet only restaurant with a very limited vegetarian options. The service is terribly slow and it takes ages for them to replenish food. In the middle of the lunch our they were completely out of Kheer and didn't replenish it at all. The buffet is priced at 19.95 + taxes, which I think is overpriced as compared to other restaurants. I have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants, but this chef blew me away and I have to say that this is maybe best Indian food I've ever eaten! It's evident in every bite that everything used to make each dish was specifically selected for freshness. Their Butter Chicken was to die for - chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked, and sauce was full of flavour! The sauce was also luxurious and thick - perfect with rice and naan. We tried a few things (Delhi ki Nali Nehari - slow cooked lamb shank and Delhi Masala; Beef Tikka Kababs, Butter Chicken, Naan, and Parantha - which is like Naan but whole wheat with mint) and all were incredible! Their menu offers choices that suite anyone - whether you're vegetarian, watching calories, love spices, or don't - there's something for everyone. Most dishes can be made to suite your level of spice/heat tolerance, which was great news for me since I can't handle spice, and my boyfriend loves it! The price is also right at this restaurant - it's a great deal for the level of quality. I was blown away by the presentation of their dishes as well - especially the unique mini tandoor oven for the kababs that keeps them warm! Beautiful! The restaurant is also in a fantastic location, right in the Byward Market and close to everything in Ottawa. I'll definitely be returning again soon and would love to try the lunch buffet!
