What a unique find! This zoo is so cute and fun! Not only do the kids love it, but so do I! We wanted to to a road trip with the kids one day and stumbled across this as a place with good reviews. It was so worth it! You can really get up close with the animals. My personal favorite was the camels and lemurs. This zoo wasn't too big like others where you are just exhausted at the end from all the heat and walking. All of the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. Simply perfect all around.

I am disappointed in this zoo. When we attended the parking lot was under construction. The edging of the area appears to been 'hogged' out - that is the trees and shrubs were ripped out or pressed into the earth. A layer of clay and gravel was laid on top. I would not expect that to be a long term issue, however, there were no 'Sorry for our Appearance' signs. That would have been appropriate because the appearance was less than appearing. My real disappointment began in the ticketing area. There was a sickly sweet odor that I was having trouble placing. It concerned me because the room was full of toys and food for children. I was told later that it was because of some goat cheese that was on sale but it seemed to be emanating from the reptile exhibits which were placed in the walls immediately facing on the ticketing area where the food and toys previously mentioned are. Yuck! When I got outside the first thing I saw was the chicken coop. The birds seemed to be in good shape. They were quite large. There were two guinea fowl in the coop. There were two unclaimed eggs that appeared to have been there for a couple of days at least. The coop itself appeared to be showing its age. There was accumulated detritus from the trees above weighing down the top screen. Nearby was a pig exhibit. The shelters for the pigs are very small. The one I saw was exactly the size of the pig. I believe it was some sort of a boar. I couldn't tell. It didn't exit its house and the exhibit was closed. Further along was a large cage with two small monkeys in it. Obviously not from the area they appeared a little on the exposed side. The cage was uninteresting and barren. I didn't see any fresh fruit in the cage though there appeared to be some food in there. Around the corner were some other monkeys. They were unlabeled. They were isolated in separate cages. They looked forlorn. The cages were barren and uninteresting. They were exposed to the elements. There was a cage with two small baby black bears in it. No mother. They were taking turns tearing up a piece of black cloth they had pulled off the top of the cage. One of them busied itself chewing on the straw on top of its bamboo 'shelter'. The cage was stark and small especially for two bear cubs. Next was the caribou enclosure. One male was moving around the pen aggressively. The other caribou sat in the small lean-to in the back. The enclosure is small, poorly drained and devoid of greenery. There was no fresh, dry feed. Further along we came to an enclosure with wallabies. There were two albino wallabies. One of them appeared to have some sort of eye infection. Two others seemed to have trouble with their eyes. The lot was somewhat spacious but had only one manger. It was poorly drained and smelled. They have a small herd of tortoises. They were moving about. The compound was generally dry but it smelled. There didn't seem to be any fresh feed and the water was questionable as little as there was. The area was denuded of greenery. They have a small flock of alpaca. At least one of them appeared to be wildly hungry. The others appeared to be slim. They had recently been sheared by they certainly didn't appear up to an optimum weight. In the Zebra cage there was a Zedonk - a cross between a Zebra and a Donkey, a female Zebra that appeared to be in the early stages of pregnancy and a Zebra colt. There didn't appear to be a male so I am hard pressed to imagine what's going on there. They have a 'Zebra Feeding Slide' which is a rubber tire cut in half and nailed to a board. You slide pieces of carrot down the slide where it lands between the steel cage and a concrete pad. The animals need to dig it out with their hooves or pull it out with their lips. There is a large nail sticking out of the end of the slide where little hands might be. The paddock was uninteresting poorly drained. The giraffe paddock was also poorly drained. They have one Timberwolf. It paces back and forth without cessation. The enclosure is heavily wooded and brushed but uninteresting. The wolf has worn two tracks. The bison enclosure was filthy and poorly drained. It had a heavy stench. They keep a small number of alligators in an open, caged area. They have a duck pen. They were filling the pond while we were there. It seemed overcrowded. It smelled. The ducks were actively trying to get a drink of fresh water from the hose being used to fill the pond (which is a cement pool). The feed did not look fresh. Along with these items park staff were roaring around in large carts. The sounds of screeching wheels coming a stop or turning were common. Be wary with children and the elderly if you decided to go to this place.

I love this place BUT the animals Well birds are treated horribly like they have to room to fly and have VERY small cages, I also love the idea of the goats and the photo frame I also wish you could buy Cheerios that you could Pay with credit card at the front desk,

    During the sloth encounter.

We initially came here because i bought two sloth encounters and decided to check out the rest of the zoo. The sloth encounter was amazing and their care taker was incredibly informative and made the experience that much more enjoyable. It's definitely more of a petting zoo and extremely interactive but feels more catered toward a family audience. In regards to prior reviews it seems to me that the deer are molting their summer coats preparing for winter. I did not see any neglected animals. This place is perfect for a fun date or families with small children. You shouldn't come here expecting the Toledo Zoo. It's a good bang for your buck!

We love this zoo. Far better and more personal experience than the larger, more commercialized zoos. We recently purchased a family membership as we plan to back as often as we can!

I drove all the way from Cincinnati to come check this zoo out. I specifically wanted to have a sloth encounter, and this was by far the best option I had. For the price and quality of the encounter I would give this place six stars if I could. The sloth encounter entailed a zoo keeper coming and bringing us "back stage" by leading us to the rear access to some of the animal cages/habitats. We went through the back door to the big display the sloths were in. We got to feed and pet 2 two-toed sloths, Hokey and Pokey who were the cutest things ever. They were apparently too willing to be picked up so we were advised not to. Got some great pics anyway. The zoo keeper told us really cool facts about the zoo and the sloths, making it a awesome intimate experience The rest of the zoo falls a little flat when it comes to presentation that you're used to at bigger zoos. Some of the chain-link fencing was sagging but gave you a weirdly close experience with the other animals you wouldn't have at other zoos where there might be a guaranteed 10 feet between you and the critters. You're able to buy carrots in a souvenir cup to feed to some animals like the goats and alpacas but unfortunately not other animals that you might want to. While this zoo has a little bit to go as far as presentation, it's a nice, quiet, intimate zoo that lets you get close to the animals and offers nice, affordable animal encounters.

THE BEST ZOO. We will never choose another zoo. This will forever be our FIRST CHOICE. The experience was priceless. Sloth encounter is a MUST. Don't forget to book early for special activities. Perfect spot for families of all ages and class trips and birthday parties and just about everything in between. This family owned zoo is done RIGHT. You get up close and personal with the wide range of zoo animals while getting to meet some of the most caring zookeepers and trainers. You don't want to miss this gem of a zoo!

    Ducks on dry land.

Very disappointing. Animals are in very small enclosures and very dirty. Cages and enclosures are not kept up or have the proper surroundings for the animal. This place is very sad. Ducks are living with no water. Alligator is on dry leaves with barely any water. Deer was sick in the corner and people just throwing carrots at it. Bird cages are filled with trash; not only an eyesore but dangerous for the birds. Small bear Cubs living in small enclosures, not a place to thrive and grow.

    Sarah E.

This is an incredibly sad zoo. The animals cages are far too small. Many of the animals fur is patchy in places. The sloths smelled of urine and were covered in flies. It's a glorified petting zoo with exotic animals. It took us about 30-45 minutes to go through the whole zoo and it was $40 for three adults and a child. I will not be returning, and won't hesitate to deter people from going either.

This zoo is amazing! Lots of opportunities to see the animals up close. You can tell the staff really cares for the animals. Everyone was nice and helpful. The zoo is the perfect size.

    My girls feeding the deer!

This place is awesome!! They are building and growing constantly! The animal interaction is definitely a favorite for my entire family! We come here often because the animals are very active and super fun! This zoo is a hidden gem in a great community!

Sharing my experience with Duke Petting Farm to save you from having to go through the same thing…read more I was having a big cowboy themed party for my boys joint birthday party. So I thought how fun would it be to have a cowboy horse & a petting farm. I Talked with Deb before even booking the party to make sure all the kids would be able to ride the pony. At first I asked for a horse because most of the kids would be around 10-11 years old. I was told a horse would be too hard for the little kids but she would send me a large pony that would be perfect for my age range. I told her no one would be over 120 pounds. She even asked me to put it in an email and I did. I am sharing that email in the photo section. I confirmed this with the owner several times before the party. Fast forward to party day when the problems all began. She sent 2 girls to work my one hour party. The one girl that ran the petting bunny area was EXTREMELY rude to all the little kids. Even rolling her eyes at them when they asked what kind of balloons she could make. She yelled at them multiple times when kids 3 years old were petting the baby bunnies. To a point of me and several parents going in the bunny pen to help. It was so embarrassing that people at my party were being treated this way. Several of the bunnies kept escaping. She yelled at the 3 year old birthday boy when he went to get a second handful of food from the food bucket they bring. She said "you already fed the animals." We tried to talk to her to help change her bad mood but it was the entire time and super disappointing as this was a kids party. The other thing I would like to warn you about is that TONS of the kids were turned away from riding the pony. The girl working said they were too tall. One of the girls was a tiny 10 year old weighing no more that 65 pounds. If height was a requirement I should have been told that before the party. Like I said I discussed this with her multiple times. So only a few little kids got to ride over and over. When you pay over $500 for someone to bring animals to your party you expect at least kind service. I contacted the owner before coming to social media. She said the girl working the party was only 14 years old. While she did say she would talk to her she made all kinds of excuses. I think it would be better to have an adult working something like this. She told me the bigger pony they had used at a different party that day and had problems with so they switched to this one. I understand things happen in life but those are not a customers problem. While I couldn't come to an agreement with the owner I thought I could at least warn all my friends or anyone thinking to book for a party! Stay far away. I wished I would have booked somewhere else. After having the party I had several people recommend Tyler's exotic animals. They said he is much more kid friendly. Just super disappointed that so few kids got to ride the pony & that the other worker that ran the balloons/petting area treated everyone so rotten. It was an awful experience and I have booked lots of big things for events. Never have I had to deal with this kind of unprofessionalism. Truly disappointed.

That said, I had coffee at one place, ate a meat loaf lunch at another, pawed the car windows and did some test sitting at a few dealerships, drove around the University of Toledo campus (which I didn't know is a very good school for STEM disciplines), and put the cherry on top of these few hours by visiting the Toledo Botanical Garden. I walked the garden and took photos. It was warm and humid, so I didn't really relax and sit a spell. Like many public gardens, the Toledo Botanical Garden, out toward the western end of the city, mixes up formal garden spaces with European cues and more organic spaces, meaning they are natural in affect and display very little rigid planning. I was fairly amazed how, as you moved along, these different vistas came into view. Everything was cohesively put together and you could enjoy the different environments they've curated for you. The Toledo Botanical Garden is part of the city metro park system, which I learned from other reviews. Thus, being under this umbrella might mean that the park is free of charge ... and it is! For this aspect and for delivering more than I had expected, having pulled it from a "top things to do" list, I believe the Toledo Botanical Garden handily earns 5 stars.

We hadn't been to the Detroit Zoo in probably 30 years. I was blown away by the improvements…read morethey've accomplished in those 30 years. Yes, it's a long time and I realize that fact, but still... the improvements from then till now are really fantastic. For starters on navigating the zoo, there are map boards located throughout your walk and there's also a QR code reader on the boards so you can access the zoo app from your phone. As you traverse down the paths, there are food stops for the hungry kiddos and adults and plenty of little snack and sweets stations throughout the zoo and plenty of restrooms as well so no worries there. There are benches spaced throughout in case you need to take a little rest along your adventure walk. Most of the animals were out midday and that was our concern that it might be nap time for a lot of them. But we were very fortunate and saw almost everything we set out to see. We'll definitely have to go back because we didn't quite see everything we wanted to see. The penguin exhibit was fantastic. It's an arctic wonderland with a below ground level walkway so you can watch them swimming past as you walk along. The chimpanzees were a popular attraction and both kids and adults loved watching them playing and grooming each other and taking care of the young ones inside the air conditioned building. The air conditioned buildings with the indoor viewing are the best, especially on hot days so you can cool down as you watch the animals in their habitats The zoo itself is neat and clean with staff dispersed throughout in case you have questions or need help. They were actively working on new exhibits while we were there and we're looking forward to seeing these new additions that will definitely add to the fun zoo experience. Some exhibits have small entrance fees that aren't included in the zoo ticket price but they're worth it. It took us 3 hours to make it all the way around and that included a lot of stops and looking at and watching all of the awesome animals but next time we'll allow four because at the end just before closing we were rushing. From 30 years ago till now, the zoo is worthy of 5 stars with the way it has grown with the times. Get some Vitamin Z as one of their old commercial jingles suggest!
