It was a bit difficult to get into because parking there was weird. I ate inside alone. The host was a bit brash but he was also talking to the uniform guy so I ignored it. The restaurant was empty. Then again it was good Friday. I got served this flatbread with chimichurri sauce, this tamarind one that got me hooked and some chopped pepper. The server arrived within 5 minutes and I was ready to order. I ordered the signature darbar pizza which had lamb, shrimp and chicken with curry sauce and a naan cheese flatbread which was basically another pizza lol. There was a TV playing bollywood shows and music. The food took a little bit but by the time it arrived I was ready to go to town. The pizza was amazing, especially with the tamarind sauce. The curry wasn't too overpowering and the crust was thin. So think new haven pizza with an Indian twist... that isn't trying too hard like Bobbi's. The flatbread was good but i soon regretted it as I had an appointment afterwards! The server was very kind and there in also a koi fish tank that another employee was tending to. 4 stars, because the darbar pizza, flatbread and a soda was a whopping $51 before tip. So i probably won't go out of my way from Danbury to grab this. However if I was close by, this would be a once in awhile treat.

The idli are light and fluffy. Filter coffee tasted just like in Chennai. The dosa and chutneys were tasty, although I would have liked a crispier dosa. My son pronounced the piping hot naan "amazing." The restaurant has North Indian offerings like chicken tikka masala, but we found they have a distinct South Indian flavor, sweeter and with a nut rather than dairy base. The plates are all currently disposable, although hoping in the future for eat-in diners that they will use plates or metal thalis like at Jaya's Kitchen. Please check them out!

They removed haka noodles from the menu but they said they may bring it back if enough people miss it. I ordered mild channa masala and two orders of vegetable samosas. Right away, I noticed that my order didn't come with onion chutney; just the brown sauce and green sauce. IMO they should have that on hand since it's a staple condiment at Indian restaurants. I tried the samosas first and was very impressed! Not only were they delicious, they weren't greasy or heavy at all; These might be my favorite samosas ever and also the most healthy! Then I tried the channa masala and noticed that they made it with dairy cream. I called them and they said they can make it without cream if you ask, so I'll do that next time. It tasted average, as did the rice. I originally gave Indian Hot Breads a 4 and that's the same score I'm using now. Seems like a pretty good place and I'm planning to go back and try other dishes, but I really think they need to bring back the haka noodles and onion chutney.

A much broader menu that appears to have items from different regions in India. I am not an expert on Indian food, but I understand that most Indian restaurants tend to focus on a region and pallette that works for Americans. Not so here. The fact that about 75% of the clientelle were non-Americans is always a good sign. I am not a vegetarian and still cant wait to go back and try different things.

Came back in mid October for lunch. I'm sure it looks better at night, for it wasn't anything special during the day. The velvet couch we sat on was nice though. Unfortunately we didn't arrive until about 15 minutes prior to lunch service being over. Hours posted for lunch were until 3:00, however upon arriving there was a sign on the door saying they stop serving lunch at either 2:30 or 2:45 (don't remember as again this was mid October). We felt bad walking in there because there was only maybe 1 or 2 other tables in there still, however they said we were welcome to sit and have lunch. We said we'd be quick.We really shouldn't have done this because it was clear they wanted us out quickly. The menu was a bit confusing. "Choose one protein, one sauce, and one bread OR vegetarian dish and a bread (Plain Naan, Garlic Naan, Tandoori roti)." Ok? We ended up splitting a Chicken Tikka masala and the cucumber appetizer (don't remember what it was called). He forgot to bring the cucumber app until we were done with the entree and we didn't realize it was a dip. We ended up taking that home. The last ten minutes of us eating our waiter was staring at us and clearly wanted us to wrap up. Again, I wouldn't come here close to 3:00 for lunch. That was a mistake. You walk in and you're immediately met with the smell of delicious cooking that will instantly get you excited for the meal that's about to come. I decided to have a strawberry lassi because I've never had one before, I normally always get a mango one, and I'm glad I did because it was delish! We kicked off with the lamb samosas and veggie platter and WOW what FLAVORS. Each bite was an experience, and so so tasty. My friend got the chicken biryani and I went with the chicken tikka masala and can I just say how impressed I was that our food stayed warm the whole entire time? Like it was still steaming as we packed it away, I was so impressed with that because there's nothing I hate more than lukewarm food being brought out to me. Regardless of that, my masala was incredible and I was sad I had to stop myself so I could save room for dessert. Because then I filled up on basically all of the cheese naan and it is some of the best I have ever had and if you're visiting New Haven and want authentic Indian food, this is the place to go.
