I know this review is a departure from the other reviews. But I would like to share my experience. I called to speak to the tailor. A man answered the phone. He did not answer as a business, he just said hello. I asked him if this was the tailor shop. He said his wife is a tailor. I asked if I could please speak with his wife. He responded as follows: "Why, what do you want?" He was very kirk and rude. From the moment he answered the phone, I found it difficult to talk to him. I don't know how this tailor stays in business. In any event, I terminated the conversation after this gentlemans abruptly asked me "What do you want?" It should be obvious. I went to Deepa because I needed to have two saris fitted for my brother's wedding. Her work is exquisite and beyond detailed. When I went to the wedding, all the women were blown away by the work she had done with the pleating and blouse...all of it! It was truly above and beyond. Lovely family and I cannot wait for my sister-in-law (who is Indian) to visit because she was so impressed, she would like to have some saris of her own tailored by Deepa. Deepa and her husband were very accommodating and her work is impressive. I took two sarees I ordered from Amazon to have the unstitched blouse pieces made into blouses and Deepa completely transformed both sarees into ready-to-wear dresses. She not only made blouses out of the fabric provided, but she lined the blouse and the skirt piece so I don't need to wear a petticoat or cropped tank top underneath. She also sewed the pleats in permanently so all I need to do is hook the skirt in two places and pin the throw to the blouse. No need to watch any tutorials on how to to put on a saree! I purchased the sarees from Amazon for about $25 each and the tailoring was $85 each (cash only), but the cost is completely worth it! She can turn things around within a couple days, but I was in no hurry so I picked them up about two weeks after dropping them off. I will need one more saree for the Indian wedding I am attending and I plan to go back to Deepa if I need alterations. Contrary to other, probably slightly older reviews, Deepa does speak some English. We were able to communicate just fine when I was trying on the sarees and her husband was not in the room, but his English is superb so it was helpful to have him there for the consultation - I didn't try anything on when I dropped the sarees off, but she did take my measurements and explain what she would do. She works out of her apartment so send her an email to schedule an appointment. Even though it looks like there is parking on National right out front, it's actually a no parking zone so park on a side street. read more

Deepa does extraordinary work. She has an eye for design and embellishes her saree tops beautifully! I had a piece of Indian material that needed to be created into a Saree top, and she transformed it beautifully and even added some gorgeous embellishments. It also fit perfectly. If you are looking for a tailor for Indian clothes, this is your best choice!! They clearly advertise that they do blouse stitching, but when I called the man was instantly dismissive and said he didn't do anything like that and he didn't know anyone who did. I happened to have him on speaker phone and someone listening suggested it might be a racial thing - I don't know. I'm not Indian, so maybe he only works for Indian customers, but it was very strange and gratuitously unpleasant. read more

Loved the detailed work and high quality that Deepa provided. I had 5 saris finished (added the fall and did the finishing), 3 petticoats ordered (Deepa color matched, purchased the material and stitched the petticoats), 3 blouses altered and 1 blouse stitched from scratch. Deepa is amazing! She works out of her home in west LA, and seems to be able to stitch or alter anything. She stitched me a maxi dress and made a kameez/kurta for my daughter (2 months old). The work was neat, her prices were reasonable, and she completed everything promptly. She also hemmed a dress for me. Deepa doesn't speak English but her husband does a great job mediating. Deepa does a great job. She and her husband are very responsive to emails and calls. She works out of her home in Palms and is very flexible with appointment scheduling. I asked her to stitch three sari blouses for me and all of them fit very well - you can tell she pays a great deal of attention to detail. I had to get a couple of the blouses altered slightly after trying them on, and she did so on the spot during my fitting. She returns the items in a very reasonable timeframe, so if you need something urgently, she will likely be able to get it to you. Her prices are very reasonable, especially compared to tailors in Artesia who charge twice as much for the same service. A great option for those who are local and don't want to make the long trek to Pioneer! I will definitely go back in the future if I need other items tailored or stitched. read more

We were unfamiliar with Indian tailoring before this and not sure what to expect when our beloved bride-to-be sent my daughter (soon to be sister-in-law) a packet of yardage with instructions to get it stitched! YIKES!!! But when I saw my daughter in the finished sari, I got all teary eyed with happiness; it was absolutely perfect in every way. Deepa lined it, color matched everything, created a beautiful ready to wear sari that fit exactly to measure, somehow made the pattern show to its very best advantage. Best of all, my daughter can get in and out of it without assistance and it drapes beautifully; not sure how Deepa was able to get all those yards of fabric to fall JUST SO, but she did an amazing job. Communicating with her was just fine -- easy, accurate and comfortable and her husband is lovely as well. 100% recommend her; we live an hour away and there are closer ladies' tailors, but if we ever need Indian tailoring again, I will be happy to make that drive again.
