Totally understood--and I had every intention to pay once I set our things down! The kids had a blast in the water and loved the volleyball net. We weren't thrilled about the ducks everywhere, but other families seemed to enjoy them. The snack shack had lunch options and snacks at reasonable prices. It appears years ago there was gravel for parking and concrete walkways but these have all deteriorated and become mud during the rain. The road through is well paved. There are a few drive -through spots that are grassy but they're not level and hilly. Good WiFi. Clean bathroom. Many perm guests. Nothing for kids but a curious yet very dangerous looking rusted lean-to near the trash where a mattress has been for quite some time. Directly parallel to highway and truck retarders sound off 24/7 and shake your unit. Lots of garbage around. There is a 4:20 fire pit you can blaze up at daily. Good if you're in and out.

Having been to Muddy Run park throughout my life for various things (weddings, boating, etc) the splash park is relatively new and I was eager to check it out. Best thing about it...IT'S TOTALLY FREE! While it may be on the small side it's loads of fun for kids of all ages, with buckets that dump, spritzers that spray, nozzles that shoot, and cascading water everywhere. There's so many features that they can interact with and ways to get wet - alittle or alot - your choice. The pad is clean and colorful with a retaining wall where parents can sit and keep a close eye. It's surrounded by a grassy area with picnic tables, shade trees, and a playground. You can have a picnic, or just soak in the sun's rays. While it's about a 40 minute drive from Lancaster City it's worth the trip as there's other things to do in the park - fish, boat, ride bike, trails, camp, ride horses, etc. GPS did send me the wrong way but once you find the park the signage will lead you right to it. I was pleasantly surprised by the behavior of the kids there, and parents were pretty attentive. There's a bathroom a short walk away, which we didn't go in, as well as an employee monitoring (but not lifeguarding) the area. The splash pad has it's on designated parking lot. We have two little kids and they loved the playground, outdoor ping pong table and outdoor movie night! They handed out free popcorn and even had a piñata the next day in celebration of cinco de mayo! The coffee and ice cream in the market were both delicious and the staff was very friendly. The rec room had great games and a craft center for the kids which was great since we did get a lot of rain on day 2. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back- the website gives a great rundown on themed weekends. Almost forgot one of the most important parts- the bathrooms were so clean and accommodating! Little things that you may have forgotten were stocked for you in the ladies bathroom.

Campground Island is a unique spot on an island in the Conewago Creek. The staff were amazing and very friendly to interact with during our stay. You can tell they were taking pride in the changes being made to the campground. The common areas and community room were nicely renovated with large outdoor fire pits and seating. Pastries and coffee were available in the store on weekends and regular events throughout the summer were scheduled. As a new campground/ownership, there were a few quirks that we experienced. Check in is all online and when you arrive you go directly to your site. There is no office, vehicle registration, or tags for the sites. This has its positives and potential drawbacks with monitoring who all is accessing, driving, and parking in the campground. A nice mix of sites exist, with some being cramped in, others more spacious, and some with odd placement of hookups which were tricky. They do have buddy sites for people traveling another family/rv. One issue that we did experience was the changing of the type of site we had booked. Several months prior when booking we booked a full hookup site. It wasn't until we checked in did we find out that we were moved to a water/electric only site for our stay. This was a bit of an inconvenience and when we called we were informed that they had to move a monthly customer to the full hookup site and they didn't have a sewer run to our new site yet, but there was a dump station onsite (not the same as a full hookup site). Overall the location is very nice with the trees and creek surrounding the campground. As the owners continue to make upgrades and changes to the campground I do see it becoming a great destination!
