In fact, I'm not sure if I'd describe it as a toy store with books or a book store with toys. If you're bringing your children, they will be loading up their cart, so be careful. It's very easy to spend a lot of money here very quickly. The day we took our granddaughter they were featuring items made by Schleich. Their big attraction Memorial Day weekend was a small scale, yet still large by kid standards, motorized T-Rex. Even if not an inexpensive trek, it was a good time for all. Indigo is amazing. It reminds me a lot of Barnes and Noble but is even bigger and better. It's a great place to go for gifting needs, and an even better place to take your child for a treat if you dragged them on a shopping trip. The toy section is enormous - rooms and rooms of any and every toy you could imagine. Play Doh, Melissa and Doug, legos, squishables and on and on. My daughter was terrified of the life size dinosaur but I thought it was a cute touch, ha. Overall this is a very cool shop and I think it might even be the only NJ location. Absolutely worth popping in if you find yourself at Short Hills, especially if you have a little one in tow. read more

This is definitely a nice store. They offer a myriad of goods, ranging from books to home decor. My take on this place was that it is essentially a lifestyle-type store and much more than just a book store. Blankets, tumblers, essential oil diffusers, pajamas, seasonal items, etc. can all be found here. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Many best-sellers were available, as were countless coffee table-type books that were gorgeous. Topics and genres offered reflect something for every interest, which is great. Anyone can find something interesting to read here. The store is clean, well-organized, and spacious. Staff are eager to assist and are kind and courteous. Prices were reasonable given the location in the Short Hills mall. Tip: check the sale section. We walked away with some great deals on very nice items from this section. Overall, recommended and will return. read more

I have such a special affinity for unique bookstores, ever since childhood. It started with my love for libraries and being a bookworm. I'd never heard of Indigo prior to this visit. I randomly decided to peruse Short HIlls mall to burn some calories after a lovely meal at The Cheesecake Factory. Indigo is located on the same floor. I smiled the entire time walking though the store, browsing various sections, flipping through pages and reading back covers. I love the store's aesthetic and that no one really bothers you. If you need assistance, it's easy to find someone to help. Easily and instantly became one of my favorite bookstores! read more

Yikes, awful customer service. 10 min. till closing, someone came up and said so, perfectly fine! We nicely thanked them for letting us know. We proceeded to start walking towards the front of the store. Then a minute later another employee started screaming that the store was closing in 10 min. I'm not being funny when I say screaming, she was actually screaming walking up and down the store so everyone heard her. Not even 15 seconds after she was done another male employee came up to us to tell us they were closing in 10 min. We thought he was making a joke because who wouldn't have heard the screaming employee but he wasn't. We responded, "yeah we heard her". He was being serious. I love visiting the Indigo bookstore at Short Hills! They have such a wide range of books in pretty much every genre you could imagine. Everything from kids books, fiction, self-help and so much more! Everything is neat and organized and the reading areas are well-lit. Every section is labeled making it easier to find what you're looking for! They have more than books! Here you'll find candles, diffusers, snacks, dishes, jewelry, body care items, and much more! I almost always find something interesting while I'm there. They have a wonderful kid's section that I love! We attended an event for the release of a new Dogman book and it was so much fun! Dogman was there for photo ops, lots of giveaways and prizes and the book was on sale for only $10! The atmosphere at Indigo is so peaceful, calm & relaxing! It's a great place to sit down and just take a break while deciding on a great book. Lots of toys and Squishies, but often at inflated prices from what I can buy online. Multiple sections for books, housewares, kids crafts, etc. Selling things I'd expect to see on the shopping channel. One good thing - a toy broke leaving beads all over the mall and we went back to exchange, no hassle at all which was nice. read more

Indigo Books offers a nice airy space to browse in. Sections are well marked, and staff support is available to answer questions. But the company has made the business decision to ramp up non-book gift items. So one loses that feeling of a full fledged bookstore if that's what you're looking for. What is disappointing to this consumer is that as a full-price book and gift store there is no free gift wrap additionally they charge tor a bag. So you could spend $75 and you'll have to buy a bag for your purchase. read more

A very relaxing and well stocked bookstore in an upscale mall. There are many chairs all around the store for one to sit and read for as long as you want. Of course the price is much higher than Amazon, but for a book worm, you can easily spend the entire day in the store reading different books and not be disturbed. There is a huge kids section of both toys and books. Yes, some of the stuff on display is not what a typical bookstore will do, but with the climate of retail nowadays, it is understandable. read more

This is the store that ruined Barnes and Noble for me. Don't get me wrong, I still love BN but if you're looking to be immersed in a different world where books, gifts, style and wellness perfectly collide, Indigo is your ultimate destination. I can spend hours in this store and not get bored. There is a really amazing wellness section with crystals, essential oils and diffusers, weighted blankets, yoga essentials, and of course books on all of the above! They have a super adorable infant section and their kids section is in its own room, which is quite large. There is a grand piano in the middle of the store which I think does get used from time to time by a professional pianist. They have many events by renowned authors and children's authors where they have a craft or activity as well. I have not yet attended an event but I'd love to go to one eventually. There is an entire cooking section with cookbooks and tools for the kitchen and meal prep. A ton of candles and home decor. Fashion items Paper goods like party supplies, cards, wrapping paper- lots and lots of stylish gift wrap and gift bags! Aisles and aisles of books. They also have the fun tables with best sellers, book club essentials and "heathers picks". Heather is the founder and CEO of Indigo and every book I've purchased from her selection has been great- children's and adults books alike! There is also a sleek cafe in the back. Being full on each occasion that I've been to Indigo, I haven't tried anything from there yet, but I've heard they have delicious Belgian waffles. I am sure I am missing something but I think I've covered most of it. This store is HUGE I've read up on the company as well, they are a Canadian company and this is their first and only store in the USA. I love this store! I didn't want to leave, and I wanted to bring most everything home with me. Indigo is a giant, dreamy bookstore with a ton of non-book items for sale as well. It also has a cafe and a store-within-a-store called IndigoKids. The store's design is beautiful, with every nook and cranny carefully thought out and artfully curated. This store combines books with products related to those books. For example: Fashion books alongside purses and scarves Self-help books alongside yoga pillows Cookbooks alongside tableware Gardening books alongside gardening tools The store is spacious with lots of room for sitting, selfies or hanging out. The meditation area features a meditation platform and space, one hallway has a baby grand piano and a book section has several long tables with chairs similar to a library or college. The home section has a fully laid out table complete with place settings, chairs and fake fruit. The baby section has a crib and a giant rocking chair filled with giant stuffed bears. You get the idea! IndigoKids features an incredible selection of beautiful books, many displayed flat so they are easy to see and look at, with awesome ways of being organized, such as self help and inspirational people, plus 'Barbara's Picks' which all seemed to be one book after another that was gorgeous and amazing. This section also has a train table, a princess chair with a mural, benches, an elephant sculpture/bookholder and kid-sized tables with chairs. It also features a ton of toys and arts supplies for sale. My kids had a blast here, as use of the products seems to be encouraged. Everywhere I looked was a feast for the eyes. I particularly enjoyed the giant floor-to-ceiling artist wall with rotating panels, featuring artists Barbara Kruger, Basquiat and Yayoi Kusama. Of course, even the bathroom featured a little tableau inside of it and framed art photos. There were plenty of tables filled with Sale items, but displayed as beautifully as the regularly-priced items. I really appreciated that there were so many discounted options that weren't tucked away in a different part of the store, or so meagerly discounted that it wouldn't make a difference. Apparently Indigo is chain, but this is the first store in the United States. I walked away with a bag of beautiful blue and travel themed journals amongst other treats, including some future holiday gifts for others! Very nice bookstore located in short hills mall. The space itself is very large and everything was clean, clearly labeled and very accessible. I treated myself to an iced latte which was good. My only two complaints were for the lack of "comfortable" seating (there were mostly just table workspace areas) and the random people playing the piano of various times. Makes it kind of difficult to relax when a young teen is attempting to play the national anthem in the center of the store. All in all, it was a nice experience (although pricey at times) and I would return. read more

Short Hills lacked a store (other than Macy's) that I can frequent. Finally Indigo has arrived. Located where Saks 5th used to be, this is a great spot for the whole family! They are not only a bookstore. My son loves the children's section of toys, games, books plus seating to color/draw. Bonus: they have an interactive mini train area where kids can play. Better yet, check out some of the event they have (recently had a Paw Patrol book reading). They even gift wrap for you aaaaannnnd their prices are very reasonable. You can spend a few hours in here as they have a café that serves yummy coffee. It reminds me of what BN should have been. I didn't see a music section (so 90's). It's brand new so everything is clean (including the restrooms). ENJOY! read more

What a gem! Indigo is an example of today's bookstore - curated, fun, and inviting! I tend to buy my books online, not just for convenience but also to make sure I'm paying a competitive price. Indigo makes the book buying experience so pleasant that I don't really mind if I'm paying a bit more. It's nice to look at a wall of books that are neatly and clearly categorized. If I want to see what books are bestsellers, trending, most talked about, etc., they're right there. Plus the associates that work here can help you locate any books you don't see right away. They have books marked as "Heather's picks" that are marked down 40% so it's still likely that you're getting a good deal. What sets this bookstore apart from the B&N's and Amazons of your typical NJ malls, are the gift displays and sections scattered throughout the store. Think west elm/Anthropologie home meets Barnes & Noble. What a neat concept! I could spend hours here. Anyway they are relatively new, having just opened last Friday 8/5; however Indigo is apparently a well known Canadian bookstore chain. Either way I'm a fan! read more

Any new bookstore is a cause for celebration. It's refreshing to see this excellently designed store with mainly books, but lots of other things to keep you visually interested and to keep the store profitable. I love the tables and chairs by the books. The books are well curated and displayed. Staff is enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. This is their first American outlet. There are 200 Indigo stores in Canada. It has a different feel than we are used to. It is refreshing. There are Heather's Picks where you can return books if you are not satisfied! Came to check out the cafe inside Indigo. Unfortunately although the place is beautiful my experience at the cafe was awful. They are not able to warm up their baked goods and the girl at the cashier was super mean, not even apologetic about it. I wanted a cookie and she meanly said,"no cookies". My husband and I went to check out the store a few Sunday's ago. Great vibe, really nice products, staff seemed nice. There was a book signing and a reading to kids going on when we were there. The prices seemed better than Barnes and Noble with a fresher look and feel. Here's where they fell short. The cafe. First the set up, no menu on the wall so when you get up to the counter you first have to look at what you want. Second, two people there on a Sunday, they could definitely use a third. Third, the people need more experience. We ordered hot chocolates, we had to retrieve the sugar packets for the employee to use because she said the hot chocolate is really not very sweet. It was probably the worse hot chocolate I've had next to the one from the movie theater! The staff there was very nice though just not too quick. read more

I absolutely love Indigo! It's not just a bookstore; I don't even know what to classify it as. But I know I love it. I've gotten so many gifts here like snow globes (and not at Christmas time!), bookmarks, socks, bags; there's such a wide assortment of gifts and items to choose from. It's a huge store with a great walkable layout, including a devoted kids section, cafe, stationery, books, cozy items (like socks, blankets, sleep masks, diffusers, etc.). The employees are always so friendly and the sale rack is to die for. I've gotten some amazing gifts and items on sale at ridiculous deals. I love their reading socks. While expensive, they sometimes have sales on them with a certain minimum purchase. There's a ton of books laid out in a beautiful display throughout the store and mixed within every area. I love going here with friends or to grab a quick tea or gift. It's one of those stores that makes you happy, where you can get something for everyone. read more

My stupid brain hates malls without good things for kids. Indigo has arrived! Only checked out kids section but is ginormous. Got 16 books. Sadly, this is their only USA location. In Canada, where they are based they have more than 200! If you are looking for a good selection of amazing books, I recommend Indigo at The Mall at Short Hills. read more

It's a modern day Barnes and noble.. the aesthetic is modern.. cool and comfortable, coffee/cafe area is great, they have a nice organization of titles (specifically speaking of the kids area where there is a section for age appropriate book selections). Great experience all around. Indigo comes to Short Hills, NJ from Canada. We visited their location in Montreal two years ago and wondered if they would open in the U.S., and they did it. In addition to books, candles ( and more candles), toys, very cool houseware/bar ware, healthy lifestyle gifts. Attentive staff and their book picks are great. Just opened seating area Cafe. Espresso drinks on point. I suspect will be a major destination during Christmas shopping season and a place to hang and perhaps story time for the kiddies. O Canada. read more

I used to come in this store frequently. Love the atmosphere, the selection of tittles, and all the other things they have to offer. The kid's section is beautiful! My only issue is the cafe. It's a nice cafe but their limited selection of items gets rather boring after the third visit there, unless you find something you love there. One day, after purchasing a coffee, I tipped them a dollar jokingly said "don't spend it all in one place" to which the cashier responded "I don't get to spend it all so no worries." Confused I asked what that meant. Long story short, their tips don't go to them. Management uses their tips to plan events that they don't want to attend. I was baffled. As someone who works in food service, that is outrageous. I gave the guy $5 and told him to keep it for himself. I can tell it made his day. As a customer, I expect my tips to go to the people that help accommodate me. To hear that it's not baffles me. I don't know who runs the cafe there but they need to give their baristas the money they worked hard to earn. read more
