The truth is, there is very little difference between running stores. They all stock mostly the same stuff, as there are only about seven or eight major manufacturers of shoes and not too many more of apparel. They all charge full retail price, as their profit margins are very low. The only way for a running store to distinguish itself is with service, community support, or both. The Sneaker Factory really stands out in that way. Their club, based out of the store, is the most active in the area and is a friendly environment for both the most casual fitness enthusiasts and the most serious competitors. They also host local road races and are one of the few clubs that have both a newsletter and a web site with a forum. The store also seems to do its best to support local high school and college runners, involving some of the coaches. Few other running stores bother to carry a selection of track spikes, for example, as there isn't much of a market for them, but this is one of the few stores where you can find such things. read more

Every time I come in here, I'm regrettably reminded why I vow not to come back. The lone salesperson was waiting on two women, so no problem there. When I walked in, there was no greeting, no "Give me just a few minutes and I'll be with you," nothing of the sort. After waiting for about 10 minutes, and still no acknowledgement that I was even in the store, I up and left. Even then, crickets, no "Sir, give me a few and I'll be with you." I was highly impressed by his level of knowledge about feet, foot problems, and the proper style of shoe that should be worn according to a persons foot and the way they walk. Wow, I couldn't believe my ears as I walked out yesterday. Neither I nor the sales person who helped me knew how to respond to what the owner had just said... Let me back track my experience a little bit: I was super excited to get properly fitted for and buy a pair of running shoes in preparation for my first ever 8k race. So I decided to check out this quaint specialty sneaker store rather than the mall. I walked in to find it pretty busy with four knowledgeable staff helping out everyone. My salesperson deftly assessed my feet, totally brought me up to speed on the basics of a good shoe and answered all my questions patiently and expertly enough. I never felt pressured for a purchase at any point, so after trying on 6 pairs I told them I needed to come back again (in proper running attire) to test-run the one pair that seemed to fit right. As I was thanking the sales person, I wanted to do further research on running sneakers and check out the reviews so I asked for the name and brand of the sneakers. That was when the owner overheard and quickly interjected, "We don't give that out. I don't want people going on the Internet and buying the sneaker somewhere else." Needless to say, that left a bad taste in my mouth and my natural inclination was to wonder why. Was this something he normally experienced? Were prices that much cheaper online? I'm not sure what prompted the owner to blurt that reasoning out loud. I mean, what kind of sales pitch was that?! Great store! I came as my doctor referred me due to my feet issues. I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help. I explained my issue and was brought over to the shoes, sat down and explained in detail about the condition I have, in the benefit of having good shoes is. I then stepped on a machine that showed me what is going on with my feet and where I balance, rotate etc. and they brought me out shoes based upon those results. The shoes were amazing! I came here 4.5 years ago after a friend told me about it and after reviewing it on Yelp. I bought a pair that didn't work out and went back to my older pair. Came back yesterday and was assisted by Mike, the owner. Not only did he suggest the best shoes for me on the first try. He also let me try them out for a jog down the block along with a about 10 other pairs. I figured I'd give this place another shot with all the great reviews. I'm glad I did. The service is amazing. The Manager is NEVER available - if you need customer service, don't expect it. I purchased defective Brooks running sneakers from them (soles came off after a handful of wears) and they refused to even attempt to contact Brooks about it or do anything. I tried to speak to a manager but they are not there on weekends or weekdays apparently. I left a message and the call was never returned. Learned my lesson and will purchase from places that stand by their products. Agree with other reviewers who have noted they are SEVERELY understaffed. The staff at Sneaker Factory is very knowledgable about running gear. Please come in and tell them what you need and what's bothering you and they'll do their best to help. I had knee pain when trying to run more than half of a mile. The analyzed my gait and gave me recommendations. I bought two out of four and couldn't be happier - knee pain is gone. I have to say I was unhappy at first. I wear an eight and a half shoe size. I did not want a size nine. I'm 5 foot 5. A size nine shoe looks bad on me. I bought them. Threw them in my closet and thought " there is a sucker born every day and I'm one of them." My point is ... The guy that sold me my sneakers was spot on! I joined a gym and dug those sneakers out of my closet and they are the best running shoes I have ever owned! He told me that the size 9's were better for me after measuring my feet. One foot is a fraction over a size eight and a half. He was right. This guy was honest, ethical, and very knowledgable. Don't waste your time at foot locker or any other chain. My feet and knees were aching from my gym routine. I went into the sneaker factory and they tried on many many different pairs of sneakers encouraging me to go outside and jog up and down the sidewalk. They ultimately fitted me with a pair of shoes that within a week had taken the pain in my feet and my knees down to almost 0. I won't go any place else for exercise shoes. I left the store and as I was driving home decided I didn't need the socks anymore so I turned around, went back to the store to return them and was told I could not get a refund. Are you serious? The only reason I go to specialty stores like this is for the customer service but you will find none here. Don't bother with this place. The best experience i have ever had purchasing running shoes...ever. The owner mike and all the employees really know their stuff! They got my size and brought me 8 different pairs of shoes ( i didn't even ask he just brought them to me !) to try on that were right for my foot type and then had me run outside of their store and then rate each pair and we than narrowed it down to two of them...Mike helped me for about an hour...and we found the perfect pair for me. A+ service , great positive attitudes , great prices ..what more can you ask for? i will be a customer for life. Terrible Experience with owner himself!! Came in looking to purchase a cap and my mother around 80 years old wanted to buy colorful sneakers, as she usually wears black. My mom told the owner this, and he replied with "if you want to buy sneakers based on color go somewhere else" He said this in a very negative demeanor. I snapped back in protection for my mother. And the owner kicked us out of the store. I have bought lots of shoes here based on appearance and never had I been treated the way my mother was. Disgusting behavior.
