As soon as I confirmed that I was indeed Ukrainian she stressed that the first class is free since I'm new to the gym, but I have to pay next time I come in. Frankly, I wasn't even aware of that the first class was free - I was happy to pay. She then proceeded telling me how "all these Ukrainians" take advantage and "think they can just sneak into free classes without paying". I was extremely offended by such blatant generalizations. Needless to say, I walked out immediately as I feared that a person of my nationality would be unwelcome there. And based on a quick look around the place, it felt like a dungeon and the equipment was dated. I wouldn't recommend it.

The gym is a little small but in my one month of membership I have not had to wait for any equipment (although I typically work out past 8PM - rush hour might be different.) Seems to have a good selection of class offerings although I haven't attended any. Facility is very clean and extremely pleasing aesthetically. There is always somebody walking around cleaning. Age group 18 and up and members have solid gym etiquette; practically all weights are always in the right place. The weekend hours could be better. Unlike many CrossFit gyms, Validus doesn't have that competitive vibe. It's welcoming for people at any fitness level, with members of all ages and abilities. It's a very supportive atmosphere and really feels like a big family. One great thing about CrossFit workouts is that they can be scaled to the level of the individual. Even though I've been going for years, there are still movements I can't do. But that doesn't matter because I can just substitute whatever the weight or movement might be for something I can manage. Another thing I love about CrossFit is that you're always doing something different, so you don't have to worry about getting bored with the workouts. Lastly, but certainly not least, I really appreciate the social element of going to the gym. I work from home, so I don't have a lot of social interaction throughout the day. Going to Validus gives me a regular social outlet where I can laugh and have fun with like-minded, good people. If you're looking for a fun way to get in shape or if you're curious about what CrossFit is all about, I highly recommend you stop by Validus and see what you think. I'm pretty sure they offer free introductory classes to try it out. Ask for Andrew--he's the owner and a super cool guy. P.S. I realize this might sound like I'm the owner or somehow benefiting from promoting Validus, but the truth is that I'm just a longtime member who loves his gym.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any parking spots, and since my guest was running late for the class, I decided to temporarily park in front of the entrance to accompany her inside first. After I scanned my barcode using the app, I planned to head back out and search for parking again. However, when I returned, my guest told me that Faye, the assistant manager of membership, had tried to stop her and threatened to cancel her membership. I was really shocked to hear this, especially since my guest hadn't been disrespectful at all; she was simply a bit unpatient about the class starting. Then, the following Monday, I received an email stating that my membership had been canceled, without any prior notice or communication. I found this extremely aggressive and unprofessional. When I asked Faye why my membership was canceled, she claimed it was because I didn't work out alongside my guest. I tried to explain my parking situation, but she didn't seem to care. I even asked for clarification on whether there's a policy about returning to your car for necessary items, but I didn't get any clear answer. It felt like she was abusing her authority to cancel memberships without valid reasons. I then reached out to the membership manager, hoping to resolve this issue. However, it seemed like there's a significant lack of accountability in their team. The manager said they see over a thousand members every day and are trying to prevent unauthorized access. But this wasn't my situation at all, and he seemed not interested in my concerns. When I requested a refund for my last month's deposit, the remaining balance on my annual membership (which has over nine months left), and the unused days of the canceled month, I felt like my concerns were being kicked around and they treat me like a fool. Because of all this, I have to file formal complaints with Consumer Ontario and the Better Business Bureau, but I still haven't received any refund. The most ridiculous part that the feedback from the organization claimed I used my membership too frequently, and that was their excuse for denying my refund LOL At this point, I'm feeling quite lost and unsure about how to get my money back. I would really appreciate any assistance or guidance anyone can provide.

However, when I arrived, I discovered a discrepancy in the price, so I decided not to proceed. Then, I found out I had already been charged. I demanded a refund and was called a liar and a scammer by the employee. It took 14 days to receive my membership refund, and for the trainer, they deducted $62.15.

Hey YOU, that's right puny little girly maan.....hear me know und listen to me later. Dis review is…read moregoing to be tiring und gruelling, BUT if you stick with it and listen to ma words, its going to PUMP you UP! ......(Shakes head), whoa, weird Arnold Schwarzenegger black out, too much protein for this juice monkey. Lets leave the stretching portion of this review alone for a second and get into some cardio to warm up... I've been a Goodlife member for about 4 years now, and have been using the Aurora location for little over 2 years. It's located on Bayview Ave in Aurora just north of Wellington (in the Cineplex/Sobeys plaza). Its a new-ish location and the staff has done a pretty fair job at maintaining both the equipment and the facilities. Speaking of the staff, I find the staff here to be #1 in terms of friendly and informative. Any question or concern I have ever had has always been addressed and answered in little to no time and with a smile. "Pant pant pant pant".... Gasp... Ok, (swallow) so now that we're warmed up were gonna start to hit this review pretty hard with some power sets where we are gonna look at the facilities and the classes. As I mentioned above the facilities here are really well kept, although my one MAJOR complaint is the small size and related number of facilities/machines available. On a busy night you cannot get a proper work out in as many of the machines are occupied by people who like to "look" like they work out and spend 1/2 their time posing on the machine and flexing in the mirror. Also, many other Goodlife locations offer amenities such as hot yoga or a swimming pool - this location has neither. I feel like in planning this location they didn't plan it out very well at all. Moving into the classes, Goodlife does offer a full schedule of classes for different people at different levels. I recommend starting with Body Pump, its a great full body work out in under 1 hour and you are sore and tired by the end BUT it teaches you the basic moves and body areas to focus on when you are ready to hit the floor on your own. One note is that I've never been able to take part in a spinning class because again their is a lack of available space for new comers (the regulars have the bikes all booked up). GRUNNNNNTTTTT----STRAAAIIIINNNNNN----YARRGGGHHHH!!! Great power set, PHEW, well now were just gonna start to cool down now, let me tell you about a few other things this location offers that are kinda cool. Personal trainers - some are great while others have been not so good, I recommend Dave or Dan, they've been at this location awhile and these two guys are tops in my books Child care - while there are no little Kris U.'s running around at this time I know that many busy parents take full advantage of the child care centre here - a great service offered so Mom and Dad can stay in shape. Other - They also have tanning booths, saunas and a pretty decent selection of Protein shakes and drinks for purchase at the front desk. Well, thanks for working out with me today guys and gals, I think we made some serious progress, but until next time .... Keep fit and have fun :)

The instructors for the spin classes are very motivating. I like most of the musical selection that they play. The flywheels are on the bikes are a bit gritty so my one criticism is that the bikes should be better maintained. There are certain time slots where the classes fill up quickly which requires you to show up 30 minutes early in order to sign up. I wish there was a way to call instead of having to show up so early. I've done a few bodypump classes and a few body flow classes as well they are good. I find the environment fairly relaxed there and not intimidating.

I take ownership for it. I'm not proud of it, but it's true. I manage my weight by watching what I eat and consuming high calorie foods in careful moderation. (I am not breaking up with Burrito Boyz any time soon.) However, in the fantasy world I live in, I daydream about the prospect of being an early riser who starts her day off in the gym, breaking a sweat before she 9am. And I even have the far fetched idea that some day, I will run a half marathon despite having never run a marathon in my life. By some happenstance, My boyfriend's mother recently learned of the opportunity to test out 9Rounds. I was smitten at the prospect of becoming a 2017 version of Michelle Rodrigues a la Girlfight, so I quickly agreed to join her. On session day, we arrived with 5 minutes to spare and were somewhat...unprepared for the size of the space and the number of bodies. Nevertheless, we were quickly greeted and told that someone would be with us in a minute - and so kickstart the waiting game. Taking a seat, I watched as men and women worked up a sweat at each 'round.' I was impressed at the vigour each of them demonstrated, but as my eyes searched the room to find a person whose obvious fitness level would emulate something that bore a resemblance to mine, I began to wonder -- was this the right fit for a novice like me? After stewing, and perhaps, psyching myself up in the process for 15 odd minutes, one of the friendly gym personal trainers came over and began to ask us some questions in relation to our fitness levels, health restrictions and had us sign off on a waiver. Doe eyed and lost, we waited for the trainer to lead the way. Immediately, he sent my boyfriend's mom off to round 1 to jump rope and he had me do a goal-less number of sit-ups with a 8lb weighted ball. I cannot begin to articulate what kind of hell that was. Call it woeful naiveté, but this was not what I had expected to be doing at a trial session. Before having a moment to express my concerns to one of the gym leaders, he was gone. To no fault of their own given the team works within the sizing limitations and the inability to stay stationary with one given client at a time - I ended up pulling something in my shoulder. There posed the second issue with 9Round concept. Two gym trainers, to upwards to 10 people at a time just doesn't seem practical when you have a group with varying skillsets. Nevertheless, I was determined and kept up with the sit ups until all I could feel was the burn and did everything to disregard the new clicking sound in my shoulder. After what felt like forever, I was shuffled over to the jump rope section where I was immediately reminded that you can in fact, forget how to jump rope despite being a double dutch champion back in your childhood. From jump roping, I moved into squats, followed by first do-si-do with the punching bag. Look out, Michelle - here I come. I was handed a pair of boxing gloves, only to realize...these were the same gloves the person in front of me had recently worn. Saturated in sweat, and bodily fluids...with an unforgivable smell to accompany it. 'Don't be a baby.' I chided myself, opting to instead, focus on the instructions I was briefly given before watching as the trainer took off to the next person. I really feel for the staff at 9Rounds, I felt taxed just watching them move from person to person - having to adjust their expectations and modify the workouts as they went. It was around Round 7 in which the nausea started to set in and I had to take a breather. Upon asking if I wanted to tap out like my boyfriend's mother had already done, I persisted. I was too close to Round 9 - I could definitely do this... but by the conclusion of Round 8, I more less conceded defeat. The ache in my shoulder and the repulsion from the notion that people's other sweat was on my hands prevailing. Upon conclusion of the workout commenced the sales pitch which brings along my final and major and final gripe: the pricing. With a one month membership far exceeding the costs of a traditional gym twofold. (My guess is the personal trainer component is contributing to these costs.) Although 9Round wasn't the right workout regime or fit for me, I definitely left feeling accomplished at what I had done during the session. Despite this, I'm still giving this place 3.5 stars for the out-of-the-box workout and well intentioned originality. I can definitely say, I got my butt kicked that day. (Sidenote: I do believe that they can hook you up with where to get your own boxing gloves or wraps should you choose to pursue it, thus eliminating that sanitary concern.)

I was welcomed by the other guests as well. That eased me into the work out. There was a lady - forgot what her name was, she went through each round with me. It was the fastest, sweatiest work out I've done since the lockdown happened and I felt like death but it was so much fun. It was good to get back in shape. It has been a week of going to the classes and I enjoy them. All of the coaches take the time to walk you through each round and sanitizing the stations to keep everyone safe. I loved how I am getting a full body work out while learning how to do kick boxing. I also love the fact that they have early morning classes, everyone is super nice and the coaches are super patient. I thought I was pretty bad in shape and my coordination SUCKS but the coaches really take the time to help you and I really appreciate that. I've came a couple times already, and the front desk workers never greet or even look at you, the gym has an odor because it's not regularly cleaned like other locations I've been to. Also, the workers don't do their job of maintaining the paper towels as there were many times it was empty at a lot of stations, and they also don't try to clean up the weights/ placing them back. The vibes at this location just isn't it with the people who come; either they're very loud and drop the weights where the whole floor shakes, or you have people who hogs two machines. I saw a girl ask another girl to not change the weights or setup because she already "prepped it", but that girl wasn't even finished using her current machine yet.
