It was time for me to get a new bike, and I knew just where I wanted to go--Indy Cycle Specialist. When I arrived and told them the type of bike I wanted and the size, they made me nervous because they said they might not have any compatible bikes in stock at the moment. However, the guys who helped me remembered they had a Salsa bike available, and it was the *perfect* bike for me. As soon as they brought it out, I was in love. It even came with a Brooks saddle. The guys who helped me were awesome. Both were super friendly and helpful and made sure I had everything I needed to get going. The bikes do not come with pedals, which is pretty normal, so just anticipate your costs being a bit more expensive than just purchasing the bike. They installed my water bottle holder for me, which I thought was nice. Unfortunately, I had gone over my bank's daily spending limit with the bike so I had to call to get the remaining balance approved, but the guy was super understanding and we got it corrected very quickly. Honestly, this was the easiest bike purchasing experience I have ever had, and I felt like the guys truly cared about bikes and ensuring I got the best one for me. I really enjoyed talking to them and will definitely be going back here for any necessary gear and for tuneups. If you want a bike, this is the place to go. They are pricey, but these are good quality bikes and the markup is not insane. read more

Very helpful! Took an older bike in for a tune-up plus whatever else it needed. They informed me it only needed a tune up, not even new tires, tubes, etc... am very happy about that . Also purchased an excellent bike carrier that I've been wanting for years. Two gentlemen installed it in the tow hitch on my vehicle and thoroughly explained how to work it. Thanks to Ron at Indy Cycle Specialist in Irvington for help with getting my bike ready to ride. He showed me how to reattach my front tire's brake after taking it off for transport, pumped up my tires and lowered the seat. When I told him I was going to sell the bike, he encouraged me to get out and ride it, to at least give it 30 days, even gave suggestions where I could ride easily. Since my last review a long time ago I have had ICS build a set of wheels for me, I almost bought another MTB from them (and they worked really hard to make me a happy customer but I changed my mind), and right now we are exchanging photos of a part that I have ham-handedly broken. I was very happy with my reception and how I was treated during a new chain installation. The tech let me know if the other parts I may need and the price and lead time. Very courteous and professional. The chain install was also handled professionally. This place has a great selection of bikes and a nice lot you can test drive in. I went here looking for accessories for my scooter, specifically a rearview mirror and a lock. I do not live in Indy, but from Vincennes which is about 2+ hours away. The weather was rainy, and it was mid-afternoon on a Thursday. They did not appear busy. I was helped immediately by two sales associates who seemed fairly knowledgeable. I purchased the rearview mirror that clips onto my eyeglasses and a bicycle lock. The items seemed like quality merchandise and priced appropriately. The next day, I tried to attach the lock holder onto the scooter without success. It looked a simple zip tie attachment, but the tail just wouldn't slide through the opening even though I had the appropriate 4 hex tool to adjust the screw. After searching the internet, calling the business (they hung up on me, but eventually emailed me a video to assist), and a call to the manufacturer, out of frustration I forced the tail through the opening and was able to attach the lock holder. At no time was I angry, just frustrated that I was having to spend so much time on this task, and the prospect of having to return to Indy to return the merchandise when I reside out of town and care for my elderly mother. It ultimately worked out, but not from any guidance from the store, the manufacturer, or the internet. Also, when I bought the lock, I didn't know it came with a holder, so that was a bonus. As it turns out, I wished I had asked more about the lock and the mirror, especially since I was from out of town. Of course, you can't ask things that you have no knowledge of either. read more

First time here , EXCELLENT experience. Brought bike in for rear inner tube replacement. Impressed me immediately when he informed me it would be cheaper if it was off the bike,I thanked him for that information. We went to lunch and upon returning they did the replacement as requested AND aired up the front tire as well as tightening my kick stand!! Which was not requested. Stellar customer service! Indy Cyclists staff didn't make me feel like a moron explaining that to them! They were incredibly nice, helpful, friendly, and provided a great overview of what they had that would be a good fit for me. I bought my first bike from Scott Irons when I lived in Broad Ripple and he was still working out of a little shop on Ritter. The bike was a red Caloi that got lots of sideways glances as I logged mile after mile, commuting to school by bike and then work after i dropped out. After I moved to Irvington I bought a second sweet machine - this time it was a Redine monocog for my bike commutes downtown - from ICS in their fancy digs on E. Washington St. Both times Scott undersold me, making sure I walked out with what I needed, not what he needed to unload, and both times I walked out having spent less than I had intended to. That kind of service is what guarantees that I'll be buying bikes and cycling accessories from this shop for as long as ICS is sellin' 'em. read more

We live very close to this shop, and this is where we always come first when a bike breaks or we need to pick something up. We had both our bikes tuned up here last summer--one of them needed a bit of serious work--and were very impressed with how cheap it was! One of their mechanics even fixed a bungee cord-cassette incident on the spot for me, as I hung my head in shame. I've always been greeted within about a minute of walking through the door, and staff has knowledgeably helped me when I asked for it and left me to my own devices to browse when I didn't need help, which I appreciate. They have a nice selection of types of bikes: road bikes, cruisers, mountain bikes, commuters, but they don't carry a huge in-store inventory of frame sizes (they will size you, and are fine with ordering a bike if they don't have the size you need). They also sell a really nice variety of helmets and accessories. You can even pick up some ICS socks. If you tell them what you're looking to spend on something, and what you're looking for out of the product, they'll steer you in the right direction without making you feel you need to break your budget. They might even come down a little on price. :) They encourage you to take bikes around the block before you buy so you can get a real idea of what they feel like. read more

I had heard of ICS but, because I live in Broad Ripple, I never make it out to the Irvington area. I stopped in the shop probably 6 different times before actually purchasing the bike. I came here looking to convert my mountain bike to a more road worthy bike instead of buying a whole new bike. My original plan was to buy a second set of wheels to swap back and forth between road/off-road. If I need to go to a physical store to buy parts for my bike in Indy, this is the best place for a downtown dweller like me. I have been to most of the bike shops in Indy, and ICS is by far the friendliest and has always had what I needed in stock, except for one time, but they ordered it for me and it arrived the shop within the week. I can't say anything about how they are for repairs, because I do those myself. I honestly have no complaints other than I wish it was closer to downtown, but it's really not that big of a deal because I can just jump on the bike lane and pedal my way over to Irvington and poke around some other places since I'm down there. read more

If you are in the market for a bike, I'd suggest talking to Scott at this shop. He's been in the Irvington area for at least 20 years, and has had enough success to go from a small shack on Ritter to a large showroom just a few blocks away from "the strip" in Irvington. A few things to note: 1) If you don't make yourself known, no one will bug you. This place will definitely let you browse. 2) If you buy a bike, they'll perform maintenance on it for up to a year afterward. I recommend sticking around and asking questions so that you are well prepared once you are off the 1 year warranty. 3) Prices range from $500 for commuter and kids bikes to at least few thousands for the serious cyclist. Bottom line, Irvington has seen a resurgence in the form of good local shops over the last few years. Come to Indy cycle to check out a true original. read more

After visiting several other bicycle shops in the area looking for a particular bike, I decided to swing by ICC. Not only did they have the bike I was looking for, but I found the staff here to be much friendlier and helpful than the other shops. I bought the bike on the spot, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they also service the bike at no charge for up to one year! Now I must admit I am a novice cyclist and prefer to ride comfort bikes, but they appear to have a great selection of other bikes and accessories as well. My coworker insisted they do good work so i decided to take my bike in. I'm really glad Levi was working. ( he wasn't there on my first visit ) He checked me in answered my questions.He called me when my bike was ready and helped me pick out a lock. Exactly the type of place I was looking for when I bought my first mountain bike. I'm a beginning mountain biker, and the staff person here was very helpful. He didn't oversell me on anything and walked me through my different options. The parking lot is potholed, which comes in handy when you're test riding a mountain bike, probably not so much when you're test riding a road bike. I ride a Pogliaghi from the 1990's. I don't want some mechanic scratching it or telling me to "buy something new" I never get that feel at ICS. Scott and the guys respect me and my bike, and handle it as if it were their own pride and joy. I've often looked around and chatted, without spending a dime. Scott and the staff are cool and friendly... no pressure to buy. I have always found the staff to be helpful and honest. The selection of gear on hand has become pretty impressive. Prices are competitive and the brand and price point variety is good. The only reasons I don't visit more are that I live on the north side, and haven't ridden much lately. read more

As one naturally does, I went to the bike shop in early spring to fix up my bike and make sure that it is working properly. When I walked in I asked for someone to assist me in taking the bikes out of my car, and one of the workers was very willing. He helped me bring in the bikes and I asked how much it would cost to have the bikes tuned up. They first offered me the $79 tuneup option, but I decided that was just a little more than I was willing to pay. I asked if it was possible for them to look at what really needed fixing and charge specifically for those repairs. I was able to leave the store for $20 total with both bikes working well. He recommended just giving the bikes a try for a few weeks and then deciding if I needed the full tuneup. When I was there I decided to shop local for my bike helmet. It seemed very expensive but the employee was very knowledgeable about helmets and was able to fit me with one that has the best safety rating for falls. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends! read more

These guys are fantastic. I purchased a bike at the beginning of summer and after a few strenuous rides around the neighborhood, was told my wheels were untrue and needed tightened. I had NO IDEA what this meant, but I called ICS to see if they had time to check it out one Sunday afternoon and they told me to bring it by. I brought the bike in and about 15 minutes later, had a fixed up new ride. The nice guy working on it also raised my seat and I believe he tightened something else, though I can't remember what.
