So the money from your purchases, as well as your donations, all go toward a great cause. This new thrift store is so clean and organized. Probably 75% of the store is clothing, shoes and accessories, but they also have a great selection of used books, DVDs, and even cassette tapes and VHS for the old heads. The prices are amazing. One of my kids bought a board game for $2, and the other found a Wii game for $3. There are lots of quality home goods and kitchen stuff, too. Nothing is junky -- you can tell that they are discerning about the items that they choose to display in the store. I visited the store on its second day of being open, and I noticed that it didn't have a sign out front yet. It's still early days for the store, though, so I'm sure they'll put a sign out at some point. In the meantime, just look for the banner that says "grand opening."

Falling under the umbrella of Good News Mission, a near-eastside ministry that started off as what one some would call a "homeless shelter" but has grown to include a youth center, supports for families, and even a neighborhood health clinic with a focus on the near-eastside. Good News Ministries Thrift Shop offers used or new clothing, furniture, appliances, household items, and much more. The thrift shop is run by residents from the men's shelter and offers them work experience and direct customer interaction. I drive by the thrift shop just about every single day on the way to work and had long been curious, however, I never stopped in until recently to finally check it out. Those who were working in the story were friendly and helpful. Rest assured that this is not a Goodwill store - it's smaller, less organized, and definitely more crowded and a bit run down. However, I found it to be clean and actually was surprised how much they actually had. 100% of the proceeds from the thrift shop help to support the various efforts of Good News Ministries. It's worth noting that this very much a ministry as is everything with Good News. There's a strong foundation of faith here, specifically Christian, and it radiates throughout their offerings. In terms of accessibility, I'd say the thrift shop offers casual accessibility. Yes, you can get in it and the actual environment typically will depend on what they have at the time. I generally had not much difficulty, but it's a bit hit-and-miss. Because it's an old Village Pantry, the building itself was generally designed with accessibility in mind. I've never seen an actual crowd here. The small parking lot has informal options for accessibility like aisle ends, etc. The thrift shop is catty-corner to the Good News 10-unit family shelter and right by the East Washington Branch Library. Would I return? Definitely. Prices are good, options are plentiful, customer service is casual but helpful, and Good News has been around since the 1950s and has a long history of helping those with housing instability. Since this is only their 2nd review, I think it's safe to say this highly visible but often unnoticed thrift shop is definitely an under-appreciated gem here in Indy and a terrific way of supporting Good News Mission. The Wild Goose Exchange is a cool vintage store / thrift store that started in Wisconsin, but they branched out and now there is also a store in Indy. I can't be arsed right now to find out why it's called The Wild Goose Exchange, but there are cement geese in the store -- you know, the kind that your grandmother has that she decorates for each holiday -- which is a cute and whimsical touch. This store has everything: women's clothing, men's clothing, accessories, shoes, jewelry and lots of hats. No kids' clothing, though. I saw a couple of graphic tees that I wanted, but I ended up purchasing an electric blue corduroy jacket, which will be perfect for the fall weather coming up. They have so many jackets here. This is the place to find something old and used to cover you up. The prices are great, considering. Sometimes, vintage clothing can be marked way the heck up. But the prices at The Wild Goose Exchange are fair. They also curate their stock really well! As I was scanning the racks and pawing through the clothing, I could tell that the items in the store were intentionally chosen. All of the items here are straight-up hits. Because The Wild Goose Exchange is located on Broad Ripple Avenue and there is no street parking, your best bet for parking is in back of the store, near the Vogue Theatre. If you park there, you can either enter The Wild Goose Exchange through the back near The Vogue, or walk around to the front. Two options for entering!

Yeah, I probably am. Anyway, that fun little bit aside that review made me want to make a stop to visit this new joint that I'd noticed but no really paid attention to. I'm not exactly the vintage shop targeting audience. After all, I AM vintage. Sigh. The Wild Goose Exchange started with spots in Appleton and Kenosha, Wisconsin and is now recently opened inside this Broad Ripple avenue storefront that is a little tricky to find and park for but definitely worth the effort. Vintage shops are a little weird for me. I like bargains, but I also feel like if it's too much of a bargain I start thinking it's just plain cheap. It's a fine balance. The Wild Goose Exchange really seems to find that balance quite well. They carry men's clothing, women's clothing, accessories, hats, watches, jackets, and a little bit more. As Nicole S. points out, this seems remarkably well curated. Don't be thinking this is your average thrift shop. It's not. It's also not really a pretentious vintage shop either. It feels communal with a strong emphasis on collaboration and giving back. The entrance is a little tricky in terms of accessibility, though it is what I'd consider accessible. The interior is definitely much better. I've always liked this spot and they use it well. As should be obvious, "wild goose" is a theme here. Hear me out. If you visit their website, there's a lot of "Where's the wild goose?" While I have zero clue why they went with this theme, I kept thinking to myself "wild goose chase" - which is, in fact, a fairly vintage saying. While I don't have a fashionable bone in my body (c'mon, you know it's true if you've met me), I really dug quite a few things here and items were in good condition and fairly priced. Parking is always a little tricky in Broad Ripple, but I find once I do it it's much easier than I expected. The Wild Goose Exchange feels like it belongs in Broad Ripple and I'd love to see its arrival trigger other arrivals around this area. She continue to badger me grab the vacuum bags out of my hand and then grab the cart out of my hand and told me to get out I said I'll would like to make a donation to the homeless because she kept mentioning how the money goes to the homeless. I never felt so belittled in my life. I googled it but I'm not sure if it's right but it says it's battery if someone grabs something out of your hand so if that's true she shouldn't have grab the bags and the cart. As far as the homeless go if it wasn't a man I would have invited him into my house on them very extreme cold days we had but I'm a single woman that lives by myself. Where was that store supervisors time or money when it was really needed??
