Sometimes I have time to paw through thrift stores for that rare gem. Other times, I just want to go to a nice store with highly curated secondhand items to find that rare gem (and lots of others) easily and right in front of my face. Lux & Ivy is that store for those of us who love unique clothing and want other people to do the heavy lifting. I saw so many items that I loved (including some gold sandals), but I left with a long black skirt that had cork buttons running down it. See what I mean about unique?! Stopped by here while in the area this weekend and was not disappointed. Had. A great selection of vintage clothing and accessories and found a couple of fun scarves to accessorize with. Spent less than $30 for a couple of scarves and a great pair of earrings made by a 10 year old entrepreneur. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. Located right next to Lick on 54th St in SoBro. They have parking in front, one restroom and 1 fitting room. They mostly sell clothing, which is gently used modern or vintage (1940's+). They have a small rack at the front for a few sustainable clothing items. They have a rack of plus sizes. I'm going 5 here because I was in here for the busting out party and it was busy. Lots of shoppers, cool clothing and accessories. I saw a few things I'd like, but the prices are a bit more than a thrift store price. That said, the quality of the stuff is first class. Retro t-shirts, jeans, random jewelry items, nice atmosphere. Being right off the Monon should be a big draw. Seems like a good place to check in once in awhile to see inventory changes. Literally THE consignment store of Indy. I've never walked out empty handed without picking myself and a loved one up something because I'm pretty sure leaving without finding something defies physics, let alone reasonability. Everything is kept so clean and so much care is put into each item's restoration before it hits the floor. This is the only thrift shop that's void of that infamous "thrift" smell that I've found in 20+ years. The shop is very organized so that you can enjoy the curation of each section without getting lost in misplaced products. It feels more like a shopping experience than thrift store. You can't help but feel better after a stop in, not just because you found something unique, but because you are unique and deserve to feel special like Lux & Ivy makes you feel. read more

This store was pretty cute, both in aesthetics and the items they were carrying! I was particularly into the rattan pieces, and I liked that they had some new items in the mix as well. It was a little more curated than I usually like (because obviously you then find more quality items but have less items in your size), but I'd visit again! Also, they had a BEAUTIFULLL Monstera in their entry that I wanted so, so badly. It was way out of my budget, but I'm still actively thinking about it! read more

Need to update their hours. We Uber'd out from downtown and they were closed. No sign on the window just closed. We called, no answer or message saying anything about hours. The Yelp page said they were open so we believed it. Oh well. I'm just glad I didn't buy the $10 for $20 Yelp deal that their page offered. We live in Florida so we probably wouldn't be back for me to use it on a day that they were hopefully open. read more

Most of my friends know that I am an avid collector of vintage dresses. Good vintage that's reasonably-priced is very hard to find in the city. The first problem arises with the fact that many vintage/retro boutiques don't have quite the selection I'm after. They're hit or miss on their style choices. The second problem is that most vintage is WAY overpriced for this thrifty gal. I get it... as a biz owner DO have to pay rent by marking up the price a little. But, I don't appreciate paying more than $30 an item, especially since they're technically "used ". The third problem is that many vintage places can't keep their doors open because of low demand and the high prices they charge for their items. As a result, most of my favorite vintage stores will only be around for a year or so, and then they end up disappearing due to the lack of business. When I happened upon this lovely boutique in the Murphy building down in Fountain Square, I was absolutely thrilled! It just so happens that my first visit to Lux & Ivy was during First Friday, so the Murphy building was buzzing and busy with people. Great time to visit! Lux and Ivy had a DJ spinning tunes in their shop, snacks and wine as a part of First Friday, and plenty of shoppers jamming and perusing their racks. It really set a fun and hip atmosphere for the evening. Best part of all...their prices are completely reasonable. I bought a dress that night for $15! That is a steal for vintage clothing! The owner is very sweet too, which also adds to the welcoming and friendly feeling about the place. Nothing makes me more uncomfortable then when some hipster opens a vintage shop and makes me feel like I don't belong there just because I don't arrive outfitted in a retro sweater and high waisted jeans. This chick was super nice, very down to earth, and you can tell she enjoys doing business with everyone. Lux and Ivy also offers brand-new items in addition to their vintage finds. She comes out with a look book every month that features her latest fashions. It does cost $5 to purchase a book, but in my opinion it's for a good cause to support this humble and local boutique. I now go back to visit Lux an IV every First Friday to see what new goodies she has acquired on her racks and just enjoy the really great people that visit the store. First off this shop is located in a super cool area of town, Fountain Square, in a super cool building so if you visit it you will get to see multiple other unique shops. Casual eating is next door too. The clothing is very fairly priced. Awesome vintage pieces but also the shop features new pieces and usually pieces that pay homage to Indy for being the cool city/state that it is. The shop is the kind of place you want to hang out in. It just has that vibe. read more

I love Lux & Ivy. Sara makes the best bath products EVER! I'm really sensitive to odors and can't use a lot of Lush products, but L&I's bath bombs are amazing. They're all natural and full of oils to keep your skin soft. I have several pieces of clothing from L&I, both vintage and new and I love them. I can't recommend stopping by VIBES and checking out this selection enough. read more
