My co pay is $25 and my other two children were just with me at the visit but not being examined. They refused to see us unless I paid a triple co-pay. Unlawful! Then we were dismissed from the practice because I got upset and vocal about it. We were not informed of the dismissal. In addition, the Newport News health inspector has been contacted, saw dried blood days old on the floor when at this practice in December 2015. I was also told to "rub my child down with Crisco" for a skin condition. I was told it really helps the skin not dry out. Just for the record, the below is the appropriate and legal method for a practice to dismiss someone from their practice. Statutes that matter In very broad terms, a practice can legally extricate from a physician-patient relationship if they do the following: * give the patient adequate notice in writing preferably by certified mail, return receipt requested (30 days is generally acceptable); * give the patient a brief explanation why you are terminating the relationship; * document notification and the reasons for termination in the patient's medical record; * help the patient find another physician; * offer to transfer medical records to a newly-designated physician upon signed patient authorization to do so; and * continue to provide care if the patient remains in need of care. Physicians take an oath to always act in the best interest of their patients, and they are expected to abide by it. In fact, doctors, unlike patients, face legal and ethical restrictions before they may end relationships with patients. Your doctor has both ethical and legal obligations to provide services to you as long as you need them. If your doctor does not appropriately end the relationship, he or she could be liable for a claim of patient abandonment. According to the American Medical Association (AMA), abandonment is defined as "the termination of a professional relationship between physician and patient at an unreasonable time and without giving the patient the chance to find an equally qualified replacement." We were never given any such chance and at no time did the practice help us or assist us in finding another physician.

On one occasion, my appointment was scheduled incorrectly. Wrong date/time, completely incorrect location. After showing up for the appointment I did agree to, I was told that my appointment was actually the day before at the alternate Greenbrier location. Driving out to Grassfield is inconvenient enough, I would never setup an appointment at the Greenbrier location. The woman who set my appointment incorrectly over the phone offered no apologies and told me to come back in the afternoon as that was when the doctor was available. I drove all the way home to Western Branch, and then all the way back to Grassfield. To top it off, I received an automated phone call notifying me of my "missed" appointment and letting me know there would be a charge next time. A letter in the mail followed. I sent the office manager a letter regarding the matter. A few weeks later, we showed up for my son's well child visit. The front desk staff was very cold, refused to smile or even make eye contact. I'm a nursing student, my mother is a physician, and I've worked in customer service for over ten years. I'm the type of person who shows up well before myappointment time. I always provide enough notice when cancelling appointments. While we love Dr. Urban, we will be looking for a new pediatrician. UPDATE: 05/18 I received a phone call and follow up letter from the office manager. She apologized for the situation and removed the missed appointment from our record. I've updated my review to reflect the resolution of the issue and our satisfaction with Dr. Urban.

Another older gentleman (I can't remember his name) was one of the first medical providers that addressed my PPD. I was so anxious about her weight, I was keeping a journal of her intake & output (I'm an RN so I had my daughter on strict I&Os). He told me I didn't need to write in my journal anymore and to trust my maternal instincts. I needed to hear that more than he knew. I don't always agree with them but I trust their decisions. For example, I thought she needed antibiotics sometimes but didn't always get them. and that's ok. I trust these doctors and I'm thankful to have them taking care of my daughter.

PDC has provided great care for all 4 of our children since they joined the world. Our kids love Dr. Leidel. She's thorough yet efficient, light-hearted, knowledgeable without being pushy, and always wears a reassuring smile no matter the situation. Dr. Leidel is also a master of engaging children and parents equally, specifically interacting with kiddos at their age appropriate level of understanding. Some front office turnover (for the better) and some Dr/Nurses retiring. We were HUGE fans of Nurse Millie. Before she retired, she greeted and treated us like family; always remembered about our youngest daughter's skin sensitivity to alcohol prep pads, making her own special diluted concoction. At today's visit, we met Nurse Lisa who was kind, quick and delivered shots like a pro; got two smiling thumbs up from our oldest son who said "that's it, that's all? That was nothing." Practice location recently relocated from a stand-alone building on Center Dr to an office space in a shared generic facility. I understand cost cutting measures but not when said facility looks like a drab setting for a slasher movie. Move optics look superficially bad but, thankfully, the approach to patient centered care remained constant. Moreover, the PDC suite is renovated in staunch contrast to main throughways. Over the years my doctors have come and gone and even returned years later. It never seems to matter which doctor I see. I am well aware that this is a teaching environment and, as an educator myself, I find that encouraging. The office is clean and the staff is nice. When you come in the lobby you have your temperature taken and go to the 3rd floor to check in. They have a side for sick children and another side for regular visits. I do appreciate that they separate the sides to avoid children who aren't sick getting ill. The computer systems went down, so the staff did their best to work around the issue until it was resolved. The yearly physical usually takes about an hour. I also like the free samples of Dove soap they give to parents. Sometimes they also have coupons for children's over the counter meds. They also have another location on General Booth Rd. in the Redmill area. Most of the doctors at both locations are nice. This is a good option if your looking for a pediatrician. Check them out!!
