I've always enjoyed their fried chicken and picked up an eight piece box today. After I left, I decided to have a piece. The first piece I picked up (see picture) didn't have any meat left on it; it had been fried off. I came back to let them know. I took the single piece of burnt crust and bones in and spoke to the young girl behind the manager's desk. She was dismissive, offered no apology, and no remedy. I felt sorry because if this had been my first experience with their chicken, it would be my last. Her flippant attitude is the reason for the one star.

I have to give this IGA a full five stars! We found this while driving to see if we could get a few…read moreneeded items locally instead of running into Gainesville to one of the big chain stores. It was refreshing to walk into a small town shop that is not run by global corporate giants who have never heard of the town or met the people who call it home. It reminded me of my childhood of going to the local grocer or hardware store. They do have a decent selection of items from produce to meat, and all of the dry goods you may need, but as a small independent grocer, the selection is not as large as your chain stores. We were able to find everything we wanted and needed. The cost per item was higher than other retailers as to be expected since they cannot purchase in the quantity the big box people do. But, what I spent extra at this IGA was easily saved in fuel costs of making the drive to Gainesville. We were greeted when we walked inside the door and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful during our shopping trip. If we lived locally, I could see us making this a stop for those small shopping trips or one-off needs and visiting frequently. When in the area and finding ourselves in need of forgotten items, we will be returning.

When I got home and tried one it was uncooked on the inside and totally inedible...no problem. Mistakes happens. When I tried to return them, the Manager Lisa said they don't do ANY returns on marked down items. I explained that the issue wasn't a preference or taste issue; the item was inedible. That didn't matter and they don't stand behind anything that's marked down. She said she'd make an exception "this time." The $1.63 wasn't really the issue. I thought the store would want to know an item didn't meet their standard. We always wanted to know at my family's store. It's evident that the inedible croissants exceeded Lowes Foods standards. I really miss the IGA.

The back wall consists of a butchery where meats are prepared and marinated for ease of cooking. Between the meats and the chicarron area was a tamale station where you could pick your own hot and ready to eat tamales (5 different kinds) and bring them home for blissful eating. So what did I get? Ingredients for a tamale bar, with ceviche and salsas, ingredients for chilaquiles rojo . And lastly some chorizo for an egg scramble with queso fresco in a soft shell taco . The food and offerings were amazing, I wanted to purchase some decor for the fifth. Nothing was really worth buying. No real decorations were available. What a pain, as it is tricky to unload, scan, and lay down your checked groceries in the tiny bagging area! It's probably fine for buying a few things. As is often the case, there were empty boxes blocking certain dairy items. You have to pull out the empty box and stash it somewhere so you can get to the yogurt or item you need. As usually with Aldi, you can't get everything you need. Heaven help you if you want to buy dental floss, bay leaves, or whole wheat flour--you just need to go elsewhere. Aldi does have low prices, and I usually find quality produce. I prefer to get fresh meat from Costco.
