I was in the Ozarks for work and I tell you what, as beautiful as these mountains or better yet…read moremountainous plateaus are, they're not for me lol. I'm a straight up city chick and I love flat country. Driving in the depths of these mountainous areas gave me a new perspective on life. I came to learn that the Ozarks are not really mountains but are a highland region consisting of plateaus, rolling hills, and karst formations. While the Ozarks are not technically mountains, one slip of the wheel on these narrow roads will surely send someone to glory. I stopped a few times along the way before coming here to decompress and fuel up. I had a longer ride higher into the Ozarks. The morning cashier was so friendly and helpful, she spoke to everyone and said to all, "have a blessed day." Because I never been in the Ozarks before and I will never be returning, I decided to try a few of the locals preserves. I really enjoy the old way of life...now almost everything is genetically modified. Surprisingly, the store has Chester's chicken in there. Restrooms were clean and the store was stocked with beverages, snacks and other amenities for the drive. I would recommend folks take a break here and try out some of the locals' crafts. After all, Arkansas is called the "natural state."

I enjoy looking through the section of homemade jams, candies, etc. Their hot and fresh warm foods are always good for what we've tried so far: fried chicken, potato wedges, and chicken gizzards. Everything is great and then a sounding Hammer shakes the truck and We begin to lose power! Having the happenstance of just passing a Napa store 500 yards back, We turn around and limp to the store. Turns out the Napa is connected to this mechanic shop. 'Garrett Automotive'. It's 11:45 am and all the staff is out for lunch so We move the truck to the bay doors and proceed to wait for an hour. Only moments after parking a tech comes out to ask about Our needs, this during the lunch break. We raise the hood and He climbs in. An immediate find of the problem. (Now this is very rare for any engine but it does happen. We have a big Truck with the Biggest gas engine with a 12,000 pound winch, so it's a worker of a nice road travel truck. ) The tech sees that a spark plug has loosed its threads and got ejected in a rocket explosion of force, hence the hammer sound. So in about :30 a Heli-coil is installed and new plug in place. A great fix that can last but We will have Our local shop install a new head on that side in the coming weeks. That is about a $750. Replaced and install but it gets done like OEM and solved. Our repair this day took 1 hour, during the teams lunch break and out the door was only $150. with the parts and labor. I told Him to double that bill but He said that was the hourly rate and He couldn't charge more. Turns out the tech was the Owner. Integrity. Knowledge. Helpfulness. Back on the road after 1 hour in what could have been an overnight stay in a single stoplight town. Thank You Garrett Automotive

Now…read morewhen you get to the island be sure to bring cold water and be prepared to to do come hiking. We didn't make it to the top like we wanted. We sat at the 2nd bench to rest which became our final resting place until we headed back to get picked up ( they leave you on the island for 2 hours) We had kids with us that slowed us down, 2 year old, 5 year old and 12 year old. If we ever go again, we'll leave the kids, and be better prepared.
