The problem really lies in the fact that 3 years later, it's still not healed. And yes, I followed the piercer's instructions. 2 years in, I called them thinking maybe I'm allergic to the metal in the jewelry. I've heard that can cause piercings to not heal, and I purchased the jewelry from them. I didn't expect them to fix anything, I just wanted the details so that I could find different jewelry. They didn't even know the size or material of the jewelry that they have in store. Just make the drive to Des Moines. Both of the places in Ames suck. The only upside to going here is that everyone (now that one of their artists is gone) seems incredibly nice.

Our second visit was on 1/19/26, and my daughter got her second earlobe piercing. Piercings are a walk-in basis only, so there could be a wait. As with any tattoo/piercing shop, you'll need a valid ID in order to receive any services. John does such an amazing job every time. He's caring and knowledgeable as well as an all-around fun person to talk to. He measures where the piercings should go before he marks them and then triple-checks that the placement is correct before asking the client how they feel about the placement. He's quick and efficient, yet very calm and patient. The quality and variety of jewelry he has in stock is amazing as well as the aftercare products he provides. John makes sure to go over all aftercare procedures for each piercing as well as gives a small bit of sea salt for cleaning. There are other aftercare cleansers available for purchase as well; we bought the Mudscupper's Brand, and it works wonders! Overall, the vibe is really laid back, relaxed, and comfortable. It's clean and well-organized as well as bright, but private.

I know I'm a full-figured guy, so there's no need to make me the butt of jokes. Biff did no such thing; he was thoroughly professional and a true artist. His inking of the Iowa Hawkeyes icon on my backside is something that I wish I could actually see because the image just sort of pops (which is hard because I am extra-jiggly). As usual, she kept me engaged in a conversation while threading so that I don't feel the pain which is very thoughtful of her.$12 for eyebrows. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Tip: For people with sensitive skin, I'd recommend asking for aloe vera gel after the session. Applying that helps with easing up the pain.

I ended up sending a booking request just a few days ahead and scored an appointment with Ace. While I had some concept ideas and inspo, I hadn't really come in with something specific and that made me really nervous. Luckily, smack on the front page of his wanna do book, I found my design. I think we did more talking than tattooing at some points or we would've been done even faster than we actually were. Very grateful for fast tattooers with gentle hands lol. The shop is gorgeous, but beware if like me you go in the winter on the morning after a cold weekend - it gets chilly! They've got plenty of blankets and bolsters to make a nook though, if you forget your own. I can't say enough good things about my experience and I'm so excited to work with these folks to fill up more on my leg.

I've never felt intimidated walking into the shop, which is a feat cus I have had uncomfortable tattoo experiences in the past, but never here.
