The Henry Ford Centennial Library is a large, rectangular building…read more                 It is very imposing.  From Michigan Avenue there is a large entryway.  It is difficult to access it.  You need to drive around back and enter the building from there.                 It is finely designed and the white marble is striking in the sunlight or the rain.  It is very beautiful in the evening.  The interior is very interesting.  The entryway leads to a circular stairway which you must take if you are going to check out a book.  The checkout desk is on the second floor.  So is the reference desk.                 I didn't see the entire collection.  What I saw was a standard offering.  They have a LOT of books.  The building is as voluminous inside as you would expect after having it seen it from the outside.                 The clerks at the checkout desk were very happy to assist me.  I went to the Reference Desk and was also treated with respect and dignity - except for one clerk who we'll just assume was having a bad day.                 There is a fountain sculpture in the first floor lobby.  I caution you not to look at it while heading up the staircase or heading down the staircase.  Just thinking about it right now is making me dizzy - so think about it with caution too.  Otherwise it's a fine library.

This is a very nice library especially for a community/town of its size. It recently went through a…read morerenovation (although I'm not sure what it looked like prior as I hadn't moved to the area yet). The librarians are incredible helpful and kind. I had used the library previously as a place to work and just opened a library card; they were extremely accommodating and patient when it came to proof of address as they told me that personal mail was no longer accepted. I was able to get one with minimal issues and they also included a little welcome pamphlet with information about where everything is located etc. The building itself is clean and well-maintained. If I had one "complaint" it's that the study rooms are often occupied but I'm glad to see people utilizing the library - and there are plenty of them! It's in a great spot in DTP and also has ample parking. Also, they have free feminine products in the bathroom which I was (pleasantly) surprised to see. Highly recommend this library and will absolutely be back.

I can just find a table and not be disturbed for hours. It does get a bit louder when more kids show up after school hours for tutoring and hanging out in the teen section, but it's not too bothersome. There are a lot of library programs and events each month including games, crafts, and book clubs for kids and adults. The only suggestion I have is to open the library an hour earlier at 9:00 am instead of 10:00 am. Despite its smaller size, it has a lot more resources than larger libraries in the area.

When you go in, I recommend going all the way to the left where they have a room that features a few walls of interesting books. They're always rotating so you get an amazing mixture of everything-- spirituality, history, economics, politics, religion... I think that's kind of the theme of that area. That's my favorite. They also have several different sort of resource centers. The most amazing thing is the upstairs, it's like a museum. It has art all over the ceilings that transport you to Europe. It's a nice place to study, there's huge rooms to do so, one with a view outside to the art museum. You can usually have an entire huge table to yourself! I won't say too much more, go look for yourself!

This Main Library is part of Detroit's Cultural Center Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This marble Italian Renaissance building is over 100 years old. A lot of history has been made here. In 1970 Clara Stanton Jones became the 1st African American and 1st woman to serve as director of a major library system in America, as director of the Detroit Public Library.
