I went back today to work remotely, as I was already in the area for something else. The nostalgia! While things look updated and newer since my days, it still have pretty much the same layout as I remembered. It ended up being a really nice place to work remotely for the day. There's plenty of open seating with outlets. There are also a number of quiet individual booths (for phone calls/meetings) as well as group rooms. There's also a dedicated silent study room for extra quiet and focus. Vending machines with food and drink in the front, and of course, the library is adjacent to Heritage Park which is nice. Also, the children's section is large and adorable. The different sized doorways leading into it is exactly the same as when I was a kid decades ago :').

The MelCat service is funded by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library of Michigan, part of the Michigan Department of Education. Additional funding is provided by the State of Michigan. The MelCat service is one of the most powerful tools that Michiganders have in their pursuit of knowledge whether you are seeking entertainment, education or skill sets. The staff at the Leanna Hicks Public Library are engaged, informative and collaborative. During recent cold spells the library became a 'warming center' for those citizens who had to contend with the extreme cold for various reasons. The children's programming is an especial wonder. Through her service over (40 years) as current vice-president (president emeritus) of the Inkster Historical Commission, she has overseen hundreds of acquisitions and improvements in our library and historical collections. She is also the founder of The Friends of the Inkster Library, a 20 year old Inkster Library support group. She has also held positions with the Wayne County Federation Library and the Wayne County Library Commission. Leanna holds degrees in Journalism and Social Science from the Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. She has received countless humanitarian awards from institutions such as the YWCA, Girl Scouts of America, Veterans groups, NAACP, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, City of Inkster Parks and Recreation and Inkster Christians in Action, just to name a few. There's an abundance of senior activities such as luncheons, fitness, crafts and even WII bowling leagues. the Maplewood is located in an old elementary so no fuss no frills. Staff is friendly.

I've always loved the Scholastic Warehouse sales. The staff and volunteers are always so friendly…read moreand I always come out with a great haul! I've been to Belleville and other area sales. That being said, as it is a warehouse, it's very difficult for the general public to find things if you don't know where to look. Aisles have general labels (think K-3, young adult) so once you select an aisle, you have to look through literally every box. It's a fun treasure hunt but it does take some time. I've learned to go in for a specific category, suck as "Fish Nonfiction" vs a specific book as you never know what you'll find. I would also not recommend going with children as again, it's a working warehouse. I brought my infant son this time around who sat in the cart which worked out well but he got fussy overtime. I was a little disappointed this last sale as everything in the warehouse was BOGO Free instead of a percentage off. I go in with a set budget and it was difficult to keep track of which books are cancelling which out. I ended up spending more than I wanted to and was a bit frustrated. I really loved the percentage off sales even if they did take a bit more time to organize. I noticed a difference in my spending which may deter me from attending future sales. If they go back to percentage off sales, I will absolutely update my review! The warehouse itself is close to the freeway and very easy to find. The staff are incredibly nice and friendly and they don't at all seem put off by a bunch of teachers walking around their warehouse while they work!

Inkster City Hall is easy to navigate - once you know where you are going. The Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) Meeting Room is spacious. It is put to good use for other community activities as well. The Inkster City Hall features several large meeting rooms. Each one is accoutered with large tables and plenty of comfortable chairs. The rooms are large enough to allow participants to move around during the work, either to exercise, mingle or perform side meetings. The grounds are kept neat and clean. Parking is adequate. There is additional parking available along side streets. The neighborhood is quiet. I especially like the fact that the building is located on a side street and not on a busy motorway. It makes it easy and pleasant to access. The feeling is very much small town with the advanced, modern, timeless architecture allowing the well deserved impression of accuracy, capability and security. Altogether a nice building to see and visit with grounds and a neighborhood nice for a walk.

There are so many items to chose from like collectible items, mugs, posters, books, magnets, stickers, candy, comic books (duh), board games etc that it has to be impossible to walk out without a few things in hand. But what I appreciate the most was the customer service experience I received and saw others receive while I shopped. The staff makes you feel super comfortable even if you don't even like comic books... Lol but you can tell they wear a badge of pride because they KNOW THEIR STUFF! In fact I learned something new about a storyline that I don't believe my husband knows about ... And I hope he'll be surprised for Christmas. And if that's not a selling point... I found my father in laws gift here before anyone else. THAT IS UNHEARD OF. The store is super organized, clean and up to date. And the prices are very fair.
