The artist was very opinionated and I ended up being unhappy with my tattoo, not to mention after it healed you could see they were unable to draw along the stenciled lines so the lettering just looks horrible and faded in some places. Where do I start with the inkstinct family. First off i been getting tattooed for over 25 years all over nyc, Florida, and the carribean, and no shop compares to this one. Carlos guzman is a beast with the tattoo machine. Blue is always attentive to the clients' needs. I have gotten 6 tattoos with carlos. This one was about an 8 hour session through those 8 hours I had great conversation with Lucas a guest artist at the shop, Ricardo kept swinging by and having conversations about tattooing in colombia and dominican republic. My visit to this tattoo place was unfortunately marred by a series of disappointments, primarily revolving around their incredibly poor customer service. One of the major issues was the repeated assurance that I would receive a sketch before my scheduled appointment after making a deposit. However, this promise was far from reality, as I found myself waiting a frustrating two hours past my appointment time before laying eyes on the first sketch. During this prolonged wait, the atmosphere in the shop was less than professional. Instead of focusing on client needs, the staff engaged in casual conversations, making the entire experience feel unorganized and unprofessional. This lack of attention and consideration only intensified my growing dissatisfaction. To compound matters, when I finally did get to see the initial sketch, it was not at all in line with what I had envisioned for my tattoo. The miscommunication and deviation from my expectations left me feeling frustrated and disheartened about the entire process. As if these experiences weren't enough, I was taken aback by the demand to pay the remaining balance, which was less than 10% of the overall cost, days before the tattoo was even completed. This aggressive approach felt completely unwarranted and unprofessional. The undue pressure to settle the remaining payment "or else" cast a shadow over what should have been an exciting and positive experience. In summary, the poor customer service, delayed sketches, unprofessional atmosphere, and lastly the threatening demand for payment have left me with an overall negative impression of this tattoo place. After spending over 5k on a tooth implant and hundreds or thousands of dollars for other services (all of which charge customers after rendering a service) should it even be socially acceptable for these shops to ask for payment prior to delivering a service anyway? Either way, I would caution anyone considering their services to carefully weigh the potential frustrations before committing to an appointment. Also, the shop is currently opened. Not closed for renovations, and I'm absolutely certain that this is correct establishment. read more

This was my first ever tattoo which mad be nervous but Johan, the one who did my tattoo was very nice and open about the tattoo I was going to do and he did it exactly like I showed him in the photo, it came out perfect and the place is very nice definitely recommend . read more

Carlos Guzman is a very talented tattoo artist. For some with talent comes territory. After a extremely socially awkward tattoo session I am honestly convinced he doesn't like Tatto'ing African Americans. He had no desire to finish the tattoo he started and even went as far as refunding my deposit after I had to follow up several times with no verbal confrontation or explanation. I must start by saying this place is AWESOME! 1 yr back My husband and I was standing on the line in BJ'S and the person ahead of us had an amazing Sleeve done. The art was so well done, it was ABSOLUTE ASTONISHING. It was a tribute to (PUERTO RICO ) and some famous landmarks from the island. We asked the man, where he got that work from Andre gave us the info. My daughter hit 18 and asked for her first tattoo, and I told my husband who better than Carlos. I am beyond happy that her first tatt was simple, pretty and done by a true artist. The shop is a perfect size with two chairs only, which is great, to avoid it from being one of those crowded shops. They do appointments and deposits are required for those who want work done. They are clean and follow all guidelines including The P.P.E for Covid 19. Safe,clean and friendly. 2 Latin workers doing their thing. The other guy who works there is named Ed- his work is excellent and specializes in cover ups. NOTHING BUT THE BEST DONE HERE. The best kept secret in NYC. Part of me doesn't even want to post this. Carlos is skilled beyond compare. I went to bang bang and got an awesome piece of work and then went to Carlos and his work was better and an 8th of the price. I don't want to be nasty and compare, I just want to point out how awesome, talented, and chill Carlos is. Get to him before he's $1,000 an hour and have a respectful, chill session where you have incredible art on your body for life!!!!!!! Where do i begin iv been getting tattooed in NYC for the past 20 years iv had good experience and lots of bad ones but never have i had such a great experience like i did in inkstinct. First off carlos is a beast a genius at his craft, he will straight out tell you if that works or doesn't work with you're piece he is very professional very artistic. The receptionist is also very professional and helpful always responded back to my phone calls and emails. The shop is comfortable and full of tattoo art its in the heart of Astoria with plenty of places to eat or have a drink after getting tatted like i did. I got a half sleeve with carlos he added some work to pervious work that I had he had a cancellation and i was lucky to squeeze in there and then had my actual appointment it was a 5 month wait but TRUST ME WHEN I SAY IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. i would recommend inkstinct to anyone who wants great work in a nice new school environment. read more

Love Inkstinct for so many reasons! Carlos is super awesome, talented, patient, professional and hard working artist, always puts 100% at his work and result is incredible. He did my full sleeve and now we are moving on other parts! We've been working together for a long time smoothly and I feel comfortable sharing my ideas with him. I did some pieces in other studios in Manhattan, but they're not as open and as enthusiastic about their work as Inkstinct staff has proven themselves so far. The studio is super clean, modern, they are very welcoming and make you feel like at home. Carlos is usually booked a while in advance, but it's definitely worth waiting.
