I was a difficult customer. I cried and wiggled through out my tattoo. Dana was kind and talking me through it. I was blubbering and apologizing haha. I normally never cry during a tattoo but my muscles were sore from climbing hills all day in sf so the tattoo needle for an hour and a half made my leg nerves jump and it made me squirm. I made it through it and Dana was extremely patient especially since I was being a pain in the ass. Her doggies in the back are well behaved and friendly and besides the pain I had a lot of fun. 5 years old and counting, my tattoos by Dana still have strangers approach me every time they're visible to complement the vivid colors, quality, and general composition. I have two large tattoos by Dana - a half sleeve medley and a Betty Page pin-up on my side. Both are incredible. For the half-sleeve, I came to Dana with very little direction - I had only the notion that my tattoo should look great and have a classic feel. Armed with miscellaneous magazine cutouts and vague descriptions of things I love, Dana whipped up the perfect half-sleeve in one take. For the pin-up, I came with a Betty Page painting, but wanted her not in the nude, and with a different facial expression. She's utterly perfect - beautiful, not sultry, and wearing a red dress and shoes that are artistic, but so real one could almost touch them. Dana has an amazing ability to convey texture. My tattoos includes bright colors, heavy shading, even a chrome finish - and all look fantastic. I know artists who specialize in specific styles, but no artist comes close to her varied talent. If that weren't enough, Dana is incredibly fast. I wouldn't think of bargain shopping when it comes to tattoos, but I was stoked to discover she was way faster than other artists, a clear indication of her natural talent. Further, Dana is an amazing painter - especially of motorcycle art. I own two of her pieces and both are stunning to visitors and to me, even after all the time I've spent staring at them. Another thing I love about Dana is her no-nonsense approach to where she'll tattoo, what she'll tattoo, and the ink she uses. She's got a serious side where it matters, but is as down-to-earth as they come. And her office staff - resident distractors extraordinaire - are as fun as she is. Dana redid the rose on my back this summer. She took the drawing I gave her and did a great job turning it into a coverup for my orginal rose tattoo. I finally have the tattoo I always wanted with wonderful shading and color. Well, I figured this would happen after my first tattoo and I'M HOOKED! I waited 47 years to get one and really did a lot of local searching before settling on Dana and man, I'm glad I waited for her. One of my friends had told me about Inky Cells but when I actually got to see the cover-up that Dana did on her ankle, I couldn't believe it and I called to start the process the next day. My girlfriend wanted to get a tattoo for her birthday, and I found Dana here on yelp with all kinds of great 5 star reviews! Her website stated "its expensive, but it's worth it" which of course made me very compelled. We brought her in and got quoted $160/hr for rose work. The tattoo fits her upper arm, from her elbow to her armpit. Now, my girlfriend is TINY, standing 5'0 and weighing about 95 or so pounds. The tattoo is about 6 inches by 2 inches. Like I said she's TINY! My girlfriend had to go back in to finish it without me, so of course I was not there to say "wait a minute, that doesn't even look like an $800 tattoo!" Yeah, 8 hundred dollars. When I found out what she ended up paying her, I got on the phone real quick to ask Dana if she'll do touch-ups for life, which most artists honor. She said "for life? No way, I don't know what you do with your tattoo outside of my shop, I can't keep my eyes on you the whole time to make sure you're using sunscreen the whole time" I asked "then how long will you honor touch-ups?" Her response "a month and a half" that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. This tattoo is not worth any more than 400-500 max! Due to the size. The tattoo isn't even THAT good... I think you all should really do some more looking around before choosing Dana. I could have gotten something much better for that price, maybe even the whole top part of her arm. I'll add some pictures of the tattoo later. I'm just not satisfied what so ever, I feel like we got ripped off completely. It's expensive, and NOT worth it. read more

Had Dana do some coloring several years ago on a back piece. Turned out really well. Went to her today to see about re-touching up and covering up parts of it. She refused to consider my cover-up. Also, showed her my ideas for 2 other new small tats to go on my forearms. For whatever reason, she got really pissed at my idea for a red Chaos symbol, with a black Peace sign embedded in it. The tat had 2 concentric circles in the middle that Dana said she was uncomfortable with but 'would do it if it was larger'. So she enlarged it to what she felt was her workable size, and I actually agreed to it after putting it next to my arm. Then she said she wanted to do it with only one circle in it. I agreed but asked 'why?' since we just agreed on the size that met her needs of being larger. She and her husband then both got very confrontational with me saying that 'it was unrealistic of me to expect a perfect circle and straight lines coming off it' and that I just 'needed to take my $ and go'. Arrogance and Eccentricity do NOT go hand in hand. Learn some humility Dana. Or just say that you only do dumbed down crayola coloring now that you're too old to do intricate tats. read more
