From the time we go to their website and reserve a boat, show up to the marina to rent a ski boat, the equipment is in good condition, and the Captains we hire to spot are always polite, respectful, and fun to spend time with. This place MADE our family vacation. We got a pontoon with a slide on top! Everyone from my 5y/o nephew to my 80y/o stepdad went down multiple times. We had a two hour rental and it was a perfect amount of time. The staff were VERY kind, organized, and professional. The boat was gorgeous. PRO TIP: A Dillon Reservoir company offers boat rentals for much cheaper rates, prettier views and most importantly, better customer service. Really sad we spent my son's 2nd birthday with this business. It is run like a tourist trap, which is surprising since it's right next to such a cute and friendly college town. The previous reviews about the owner are 100% accurate. He doesn't care about his customers and will nickel and dime you on top of his exorbitant rates. We were running 30 min late due to traffic from three separate accidents on our way from Denver, but we were the last rental time slot of the day so we thought maybe there wouldn't be anyone behind us waiting for the boat and we could just keep it out for a bit. They "graciously" offered us 15 extra minutes. The way they acted, that 15 minutes was above and beyond. We accidentally returned the boat late - tried our best to get back and just couldn't make it - and the manager informed us it costs $100 per 15 min. Are you kidding me? When we protested he acted like he was cutting us a deal and brought it down to $50. He said it was because he was paying 6 workers to clean up the boat and they otherwise would have been off the clock since we were the last boat. But my sister overheard him telling another employee they all had to wait another 30 minutes or the *real* last boat of the day to return, so we knew he was lying. I'll take responsibility for being late, and I'm okay with paying extra for additional time if you're a big enough jerk to penalize us when there is no one in line behind us. But that is an astronomical fee and the way he spoke to us was extremely rude and offensive. Also, pretty sure the cashier is the manager's daughter because she had the same entitled rudeness when she checked us out and said snidely, "Well, we gave you 15 extra minutes". Seriously, drive to another lake and don't let your time in the beautiful Colorado outdoors be ruined by this company. read more

BE VERY CAREFUL RENTING OR INTERACTING WITH THIS FACILITY - ESPECIALLY THE RUDE AND BLATANTLY BELLIGERENT OWNER Be very careful renting from this facility. The owner will personally raise his voice and put his phone and your contract in your face. I was boating, in a storm, with my family and had some troubles with the boat and anchor. He basically set a trap to collect his boat damage policy even though the boat was not damaged. I had come back and he has scouts out on the reservoir taking pictures. If you happen to make a mistake as I did, he will shove his phone in your face while yelling at you to look at the pictures his scout took. Then he yelled more about the contract I signed. VERY hostile person and was belligerent in front of my 7 year old daughter and her friend. I would highly recommend going elsewhere and save yourself he appears to believe us his right to berate people. Before we could get off of the boat, as we were docking, he started his tirade and got into my personal space as if to posture of puff up his chest. Real belligerent person. Be very careful and we fully experienced the terrible customer service that is listed in many of these reviews that are leaving him with a low rating. ALSO BE AWARE****** This business observed absolutely zero precautions regarding COVID 19. He was literally in my face with no mask yelling at me. Floated up to a very eager and friendly staff, ready to serve you in anyway. They were very helpful with pulling the boat in and filling us up with gas. The gas prices were reasonable for a marina, didn't cost an arm and a leg. Inside has the usual gas station eats, snacks, candy, chips, etc. Some pre-made sandwiches, but no fresh food. So, make sure to bring your own food out on the boat. I will say that the beer options inside were extensive and local oriented; perks of living in CO where all the great beer is brewed locally. read more

I was disappointed this year to see NOT ONE person wearing a mask though, even those inside the boat house. They said they "sanitize" the boats between uses but we just saw some kids wiping it down. That is until I did some research on the boat rentals there. Apparently Inlet Bay Marina has some sort of monopoly on the res when it comes to boat/jet ski rentals and are well known for scamming just about everyone out of their security deposits. That's a lot of money, $500 to $700 a pop! I've heard they're not very friendly from friends who've been there but the deposit scam is a whole other beast. The boat we rented had beer cans from a previous renter under the seats and one of the deck doors to the bilge was broken. We let the dockhand know of this and under his breathe he blamed it on us. I've been around the waters back home in Maine. Maybe these folks should do the same and learn how to run a marina. read more

I know the owner professionally and he thinks he's a really big deal and treats his rental customers with contempt. His real profit center is the annual slip rental and he gets to rub elbows with very wealthy people as a result. The rental business is just there as a term of his permit to run the marina on a Federal reservoir. The guy even gets made when the water is low because it disrupts his business. Sorry the 400,000,000 reservoir to provide water to people and crops that you make your money off of doesn't cater to your bottom line. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Our boat stalled during a storm and they wouldn't answer their phone. Finally after calling 911 a ranger was able to help us out. We showed up 15 minutes late to the dock and were berated by the owner (even though we were already charged the late fee of $215!!) They only let us take out the hydro-bikes (which were semi-entertaining but don't count on going anywhere fast)... Lo and behold, their ENTIRE reservation calendar was green, including a time slot 30 min from when we asked. ...so we were turned away because we didn't have a reservation (even though they wouldn't come out and say this) and nowhere could I find anything about reservations being required. I went out to enjoy a evening of stars on the water with my girlfriend. We got caught I a major wind storm and went to the Marina to Seek Shelter. With the wind not giving up we decided to tie up in one of the many empty slips at IBM. When we awoke we were greeted at the dock by Glenn, He was COMPLETLY a rude jerk even after apologizing and explaining we were caught in a bad wind storm. He did not want to listen to me and my and kept saying it was no excuse and we were tresspassing. I even offered to pay for the slip for the night.. All the boats had been removed for the Season and he was acting like we were blocking somebodies slip As a Coloradon if someone was caught in adverse weather I would happily open my doors to a stranger. That's what we do as Coloradons. I have gone to Horsetooth for many many years and have always enjoyed this lake.. I have eve spent thousands of dollars in Fuel at IBM.. While my husband and I were kayaking with his 11-year old sister and her friend when we got caught by the wind out on the lake and one of the girls could not get back in her kayak. My father in law saw us and went to the marina to get a boat to rescue us, and was told by the owner's son that he could take the boat at the dock. When we came back to the dock the owner was there and immediately started yelling and swearing and called my father-in-law a thief and told us he had "50 customers waiting for this boat". I understand that, yes, it would be concerning if someone took off with your boat supposedly without permission. But as a tip to the owner, it is never a good business practice to be yelling and swearing in front of two little girls - especially when you clearly don't know the full story (and interrupt when we are trying to explain). I'm sorry your boat was missing from the dock for 10 minutes, but with your son's permission, it was completely reasonable for him to come save us. You lost our business and respect, but thank you for inspiring us to buy our own kayaks so we don't have to deal with your aggression and unprofessionalism again. read more

Try to avoid renting from this marina if possible. Super rude service then in there, and they act annoyed you are even there. We rented a boat for a few hours, which was nice quality, but as we were docking they even act pissed at you even with a perfect docking I did as I'm experienced. We by accident left our kids life jackets on the boat, and when we called a couple days later and asked if they found them they immediately said "nope, found nothing that's not ours". We persisted and asked if they could please look, and they insisted they don't have anything (even without pausing to even look). So I had to drive all the way up there went in and ask and she insisted they found nothing. Then I walk outside the door and find huge cage full of all different life jackets (not theirs), and our kids were right on top. When questioning them they didn't even apologize and the manager made it seem their policy was to keep whatever people leave as now their property. Unethical and basically thieves. Is this the kind of business we want to support? I think not, never again. read more

Let me start off by saying that and friend and myself went here to rent a paddle board for her. (As I had my own paddle board) according to the waiver she signed the company itself is called Gore Range Expeditions LLC. It's located at the marina. Do NOT, I REAPEAT DO NOT rent from them! This was a truly terrible experience. We were hounded, followed and berated as if we were children. And I've double checked the website and waiver and other than being in a "not recommended"area.(wasn't illegal by any means) We were not in the wrong we followed all other guidelines. The owner was very unprofessional and yelled at us and called me an ox among other things. Literally using that word. Then lectured us the entire boat ride back to shore when we didn't even ask for a boat ride back. He basically harassed us into getting on his boat. We actually didn't ask for help at all. But he made sure to come out searching for us and acted as if we were doing something wrong when we weren't. It was a miscommunication and understanding on his part. Something a phone call to us would have fixed for sure. Apparently the expectation is that you stay right there in the tiny bay with your board where they can watch you at all times.(two grown adults I might add) Though this is not communicated anywhere nor are you told that! Even if you bring your own paddle board?! Would not recommend renting from them. Find another board shop nearby to rent from. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere. If I could give 0 I would. They need to do a better job of clearly communication their rules and expectations and should tell you this upfront before paying for a board rental. OMG! It's rare I come across a business run so poorly. We were out on one of their rental boats with relatives. The boat was loud and making weird noises, but that would not have caused me to complain. It was when we tried to start the boat to head back in that all of the trouble started. The engine wouldn't start,so we called the rental service for help, but after a dozen rings, it went to a voicemail that was full and not taking messages. Tried again only to have the same result 3 times. We then called 911 and the lake patrol came by. After fiddling with the starter for 5 minutes, he was able to get it started. This caused us to be about 25 minutes late and we arrived to being berated by the rental owner for inconveniencing him. And after that, he charged us $214 in late fees. What a moron! He has a bunch of local kids working the dock and I feel sorry for them that they are learning this disgusting way of doing business. Hopefully a local resident will use the evidence of his poor business practices to take this operating lease away the next time it's up. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My family and I had only one day in the area and wanted to jet ski. I had some questions that I needed answers to - that were not answered/covered on their website. In seven days' time, I called no less than 50 times!! The phone was answered only once! I had a couple of my questions answered on that one phone call, but had a couple more - even calling right after I had just hung up with the gal - no answer - again - for several days! In addition, I left several messages asking for the professional courtesy of a return phone call - nothing! Instead, we wasted several hours of our one day in the area - having to DRIVE there (not exactly easy to get to) to have our two questions answered. Even upon arriving and waiting in line, the phone rang and rang. The two people at the counter didn't even acknowledge it. Customers calling with questions must just be white noise for them. We left without renting. Valuable time wasted. Hello, it is 2018. Either hire enough people to answer the phone calls coming in or have the professional integrity to return a phone call. They must just have so much business that they don't need to bother with potential customers that have questions. Pathetic and irritating. read more

My family and I have camped here a few time and usually have a pretty decent experience. But not this time. I have to say that the Inlet Bay camp host was extremely rude and condescending when we asked to move our reserved site to another closer to friends. Really? With several vacant sites this is such a big deal? Additionally, we came across a group of slip people (owners/renters, I don't know which) that felt they were responsible for patrolling the entire marina area. They were very belligerent to me, my wife, and kids on the way out of the marina area. Apparently this was not enough for them so they harassed us again on our way back into the marina. We have now canceled all of our reservations to Horsetooth for the year and have serious concerns about going back again next year. Save yourself some heart-ache, go somewhere else. read more

Only negatives to this place are no rainchecks, and they may have been a bit understaffed today (took a little bit for us to get out on the water - BUT they extended our reservation to compensate - so it's fine by me!) $40 for a minimum 2 hour rental on the reservoir in a kayak (plus $7 daily park pass for the car) - seems steep, but was a great and peaceful experience. We saw 3 deer, goldfinches, ducks, even an oriole up close and personal from the water! You'd be surprised how much there is to see just within he no-wake area. If the price were lower, we would be back a lot more often, but we will definitely go back once per year. read more

Rented a tower boat for four hours with a few friends and had a great experience. Staff was very accommodating despite how busy they were. Was initially apprehensive given some of the other reviews but my rental could not have gone smoother. I think as long as you stay away from the shore and get the boat back on time you should have a similar experience to mine. Do yourself a favor and get your drinks, ice, bait, food, and fuel in Ft. Collins (JJs is the last gas station before you come into the lake) and avoid this Marina at all costs. It may be the reason you end up getting a safety or alcohol violation. On Saturday, 6/1/13, I approached the marina in my boat. At about 40 yards from the marina dock, the boat boy/handler (medium size w/ blond hair probably 25 years old) signaled to me to slow down. I looked behind the boat, no white wake water, checked speedometer, 3 miles per hour, decided to cut power to to 1 mile per hour, and signaled back to him that I had slowed down. When I was within 5 feet of the marina, the boat boy/handler screamed at me, "Don't fucking wave at me when I signal to you!". This brought on laughs and sneers from his fellow boat boys/handlers at the marina. I had 3 guests with me on the boat. I apologized and told him that I had signaled back to him that I had slowed down. I told him that I was going 3 miles an hour w/o a wake and slowed to 1 mile an hour when he signaled to me. He said, "I don't care, just slow down and don't fucking wave at me when I tell you to slow down." At this point, I asked him if there was some type of problem or if he just acted like that all the time. He then said with an attitude, "What do you want?" I said we had just stopped to get some fishing bait and something to drink. He disappeared into the store to get the items and returned with a park ranger. He disappeared and the ranger then proceeded to tell me that she had been contacted and that she needed to do an inspection of my boat. We went through all my safety gear and I answered her questions. There were no problems. There was no warning, violation, or even an explanation issued by her on why the inspection was performed or why she was even present. Since he did not bring the items out to the boat, as they usually do and even though I was with the Ranger for 10 minutes, I went inside to pick the items we needed up. I made contact with him again inside the store where he smiled and told me it was my fault and he wasn't sure why the ranger had bothered me. When I left, I had to untie my own boat, push off, and start my engine even though 3 boat handlers were standing there smiling at me the whole time. It's one thing to be a complete asshole to people for no reason but it's a whole another level to start having Rangers do safety and alcohol inspections because you're too little of a man to admit you've made a mistake in screaming at someone for no apparent reason. In the real world, this guy would have two black eyes, a broken nose, and have his ass handed to him in the parking lot. In place like the Inlet Bay Marina, he is the "head boat boy/handler". . UNCONSCIONABLE Things went fine with the rental, but the credit card statement showed up with an extra unauthorized $500 charge. I contacted them and they calmly said they had been charging everyone the full amount of the damage deposit due to a problem with their credit card processing. I asked why they hadn't corrected the issue and refunded the extra money (this was more than a month after the rental). They said they were just waiting for people to call and request a refund on the illegally charged damage deposits. Based on that, and their history based on other reviews it would seem that this is a scam to literally steal money from folks who aren't keeping an eye on their credit card statements. I have a giant family (20+ people) in Colorado. Even with 2 Ski Boats and a Jet Ski, we never have enough room for everyone. So every time we go to a reservoir, we end up renting a pontoon for the kids and people that are not going to wakeboard, tube, etc. This year, we decided to try Horsetooth Reservoir and rent a pontoon from the Inlet Bay Marina. They gave us all the rules, we signed the paperwork and off we went to pick up the kiddos and coolers from our camp site right around the corner. Little did we know, that as we were pulling out of their slip, the owner had an employee get into a boat and follow us. We got the pontoon over to our area and with the rules in mind (no beaching, no boats allowed too close, etc) we got close enough so that the kids could swim over and get on and the adults could carry the coolers over. Next thing we know, the boat that was following us, drove over and said, "you are done. Please return the pontoon back to the marina." We went back to the Marina to find out what just happened and the owner did not want to hear a word we had to say. According to him, we broke the contract by getting too close to the beach and we had now forfeited our $500 damage deposit and still had to pay a 2 hour minimum. He would not hear us or talk to us. And he just walked away with our $700. I would NEVER recommend this marina. Customer Service is not a priority with them. I wonder how many other people this has happened to and if this is a little scam the Marina is pulling to make money without actually renting out their pontoons. They also HIGHLY recommend you rent one of their captains. We have plenty of boat experience, having 2 of our own, and we rent pontoons about 4 times per summer if not more. Therefore, we felt that we didn't need a captain. Horrible, horrible, horrible company. Check Ft. Collins for your needs before using these guys. read more

As seen in previous reviews, STAY AWAY! This place is full of very rude staff/owner (Glenn) and they are running a scam on their damage deposits! See other bad reviews to confirm this (the 1 or 2 good reviews you might find are obviously fake). We even spoke with a park ranger who also confirmed this has happened numerous times in the past to the marina's 'customers'... We rented a waverunner for a 4 hour block. We followed all the rules and stayed away from other boats and shoreline as instructed. We had a nice day on the reservoir but that quickly changed when we returned and were charged a $250 damage fee! They brought us out and showed us a very small nick on the upper part of the waverunner that was obviously not from us and when we wanted an explanation as to how we could have possibly even done this, they just continued to blame us, yell/swear at us, tell us to shut up, told us to leave and they don't need our business (all in front of our kids!) and then held half of our deposit for $250! Still with no explanation. I even needed an officer escort (to ensure no more verbal harassment) to return and take photos and get a copy of the paperwork! You have been warned, not only by me, not only by previous reviewers, but also by the local park rangers (we spoke with an officer who was very considerate and empathetic of our issue but could not do anything since the marina is privately owned which makes it a civil matter).
