the jetted tub in the Captain's Cabin
Alice K.

My boyfriend and I were exhausted from the week of Thanksgiving and wanted to escape to some peace and warmth. We decided to stay in the Captain's Cabin, which has both a jetted jacuzzi tub for two and a wood burning fireplace. After we got there, did not want to leave. The house smells like Christmas and Elizabeth was just the nicest. Our room was a few steps down to the basement, but it did not feel like a basement at all. It really did feel like you were entering a Captain's Cabin. And after dinner, my boyfriend and I rushed back to start up the fire and jump in the tub. The fire made the room nice and toasty and the room was filled with this amazing aroma of burning wood. We just soaked in the tub and took it all in. Breakfast was very yummy. Started off with some fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, and coffee. Then came Elizabeth with a delicious quiche! And as I ate my delicious breakfast in the sweetly decorated dining room, I grew very sad. My stay was almost coming to an end. Sigh. Definitely going to make another visit up to the Inn at Bath.

The rooms were nice, we stayed in the Captains cabin and the kids stayed in another room near the kitchen.

She asked me and my girlfriends if we were Pakistani (lumping us all under one country just because we are not white blondes) and then she told us that we would like the thai place very matter of factly (I assume since we all look ethnic). Her food is great but filled with sugar and butter so if you are watching your diet make a request a head of time. Oh, and you are not allowed to come to breakfast in your PJs which is an Inn policy and even if you didnt see that it was a policy, she will shame you when she sees you in your pjs. for the money spent, I would rather stay at a hotel and not get stereotyped or shamed for my clothes.

However, her breakfast is always local, fresh, and FANTASTIC! She makes you feel at home with absolute privacy. The home is nicely decorated for the period of the home. This is a gem of Bath and I hope it is here for many years so I can continue to come back. It is my home away from home when visiting Bath, ME or local areas.

My friend and I just got back from a one-night stay at The Mooring on Georgetown Island on our way…read morehome from Camden. It's a gorgeous location and a perfect place for an ocean-front wedding, which appears to be one of its draws. The driveway leading to the house is lined with white hydrangea trees and the gardens are filled with flowers and lily ponds. Our 2nd-floor room was large, comfortable and beautifully decorated (every guest room has a theme AND an ocean view) and we fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocky shore below. Penny is the perfect hostess -- she had a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting for us when we arrived and a list of local restaurant menus for us to peruse. She's friendly, professional and doesn't hover. Breakfast was MUCH better than I've come to expect at most B&Bs -- piping hot, delicious French toast with bacon, blueberry muffins and fresh fruit salad. Penny's 9-year old grandson gave us a tour of the grounds and provided a bit of history as well (he's the great, great, great grandson of Walter Reid, the donor of spectacularly pretty Reid State Park, just down the road from the inn.) Unfortunately, The Mooring's website doesn't begin to do justice to the lovely house, gardens and ocean views. It's a shame, because The Mooring is a great getaway, not too expensive and close to both Bath and Portland if you're in the area.

I rarely give five stars, but our stay was as close to perfect as you can get. The Inn was recently…read morerenovated and the owners, John and Jackie, have done a fantastic job. Rooms are beautiful, beds are very comfortable, and there's a ton of indoor and outdoor common space. John and his staff were so nice (Jackie was out of town, but sounds like she's great too) and we and our friends instantly felt at home. It's well worth the price, which is very much on par with other places in the area that aren't nearly as beautiful, comprehensive, or welcoming. I added a photo from first thing in the morning. I got up, grabbed some coffee and homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit and went and sat on the deck overlooking the river. Such a great way to start the day. A little hint - when you call to book, don't be put off by how laid-back they are about the reservations. I don't think they asked for any money up-front to confirm or anything. Being 'city-folk', we found this a little scary, but they are on the ball. Don't worry! There's a lot to do in the area, too, if you like the outdoors - go down to Popham Beach and take a walk, visit Fort Popham, grab lunch or dinner at Spinney's, hike one of the many trails, bring a bike and tackle the windy, hilly Parker Hill Road, or pop into Bath if you want a little more (but not too much) action. We'll go back for sure. Would love to visit in another season.

One of the best places in the area and an amazing home/inn/setting......so quiet, so clean, so…read morehistoric...yet so 21st century. The inn is listed and the owners innkeepers should be! They bend over backwards to try and make your stay memorable. The inn is a wonderful old Phippsburg home and has many different rooms you can stay in. The beds and linens were divine, the bathrooms more humble of the rooms I crept into to have a discrete look. Our room the Woodshed was an.....old woodshed! It overlooked the water, and the early morning brought....SILENCE! Wonderful....no noise, little light...thus we snoozed for ages.....and did other things in complete privacy.....but none of that is your business!!!!! The breakfast time is flexible, the food served satisfying and fresh. We had fresh scrambled eggs with ham mixed in, started with greek yoghurt and fresh berries...but you could choose from many items. Now onto the tea.....being a fellow innkeeper (who's standards are demanding!!!!) and BRITISH....I am VERY demanding on my morning cuppa....and they delivered! The home is impressive and Phippsburg and Bath in general are not like Camden....over developed and touristy. You can cycle from their inn to Popham beach and fort...where there is a great restaurant, not fussy, serving fresh lobster (out of the tank in front of you!) and a plethora of other dishes. John & Jackie the innkeepers try to please in a quiet and relaxed way, are not over burdening, and take pride in their home....but do welcome one to use many parts of it. The setting overlooks the water and is next to a church....I could go on....but won't....just get yourselves booked in when you are 'doing' the Maine coast.
