We just stayed at the Harbor House Inn in Boothbay Harbor Maine and it was an incredible place to stay. The owner Christie is warm and gracious and the breakfasts she prepares are fantastic. Christie is very knowledgeable about the region and can help make any visit to the area more enjoyable. The inn is an easy walk from the harbor and many wonderful restaurants. This is what a B&B experience should be like. I loved the location perched atop a hill facing the water. The owners Tom and his wife were so incredibly nice I think they made our trip. Their dogs Tristan and Pepper were also so cute and I'm not even an animal person. I really enjoyed breakfast every morning. We had baked french toast which was my favorite. Note that the other reviews here are from 2014 and earlier. The prior innkeepers moved on and a new innkeeper took over in mid-2016. Our experience was not like the ones described in the reviews for three and more years ago. The Harbor House Inn, located on a hill above Boothbay Harbor, is a beautiful old home built in the 1869 by a sea captain. The grounds are gorgeous. The common areas indoors are appointed with nice antiques. There is a narrow view of the Bay from the very large deck behind the structure. Walk a very short distance down the hill to the heart of the Boothbay business district. The Inn has ample parking while parking in the town is limited during busy periods. Our room was at the top of a long, steep flight of narrow stairs built for small people. The stair treads are not as wide as my shoe is long. Even the railing is short. Carrying a heavy, bulky suitcase up to room level could be a challenge for some. Our room was tiny. It had no closet and no armoire. The only place to hang clothing was on a double hook behind the entry door. Our king bed left just enough room for one small nightstand. The other furniture in the room consisted of two straight-backed chairs, one dresser and a 30"x12" table. There was little horizontal space to put anything down. There was no ice bucket in our room. Ice was available only by request. It came from the personal refrigerator in the innkeeper's private quarters. The shower stall and commode appear to have been built into a closet. When I dropped the soap in the shower there was not enough room to bend down and pick it up without some contortionist moves. One window will not stay open. Propping a soda bottle underneath it let us get some air. The one indoor common area, downstairs where breakfast is served, has only one stuffed chair. The deck is spacious and has plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture for times when the weather permits being outside. After a long day sightseeing we returned to Harbor House to find that no housekeeping had been done in our room. The towels from our morning showers were still wet and lying where we left them. The innkeeper told us they don't do housekeeping unless we ask. The harbor air is so humid that towels may not dry overnight. Breakfasts were barely marginal for the first few days, perhaps because we were the only two guests. The food appeared to have come from a grocery store freezer section. By Saturday other guests had arrived and the breakfasts were house-made and good. Wi-fi internet access was satisfactory. Oddly, there is no printer at the Inn. We had hoped to print out return boarding passes but would have had to go to a local print/copy business. The innkeeper could not have been more responsive to our requests. For example, she bought and served dark roast coffee at our request. It would be better, though, if guests needs were anticipated and addressed without having to ask. This was our first trip to Maine. Our only other experience with inns in Maine was with a truly delightful inn in Bar Harbor. B&Bs we have patronized in other cities around the country made a big deal out of their gourmet breakfasts. Perhaps our experience at the Harbor House Inn is typical of inns here. In summary, the food and creature comfort at the Harbor House Inn are sub-par. The beauty of the inn and its furnishings is impressive. Its proximity to Boothbay shopping and restaurants is a real advantage. read more

My daughter and I stayed here for four nights. Kristie Chapman is an amazing host. She made gourmet breakfasts, gluten free for me. She assisted with directions and tickets. She was attentive to our every request. The Captain's Quarters were so comfortable and the view brought peace. Loved it here! I definitely will come here again. read more

Let me break it down, B&B style: Bed(room): The first thing you notice upon entering Room 4 is the view of the harbor. Breathtaking. The large windows also kept our room bright and airy. As there were three of us, we had a Queen-sized bed and a Twin-sized roll-away. The room itself was a touch pinker in decor than I would ever personally select, but that sort of grandma-chic endears B&Bs to my heart. Our bathroom was across the hallway (ours was the only room situated such, and the owners let us know when we booked) but there was a sink in the room, which was convenient. Breakfast: Delicious and varied each day. I'm glad I got my Belgian waffle the first day - the waffle iron wasn't there the next morning. Every morning had some variation of pastry, hard boiled eggs, cereal, and juice. All was homemade and brought out fresh from the kitchen, still warm. Location: Absolutely ideal. Harbor House is situated on a hill with a stunning view of the water. Better yet, it's just a short walk into town. Other charming accoutrement: Tristan and Pepper, the owner's two small dogs. Allergy sufferers, fear not. I'm so allergic to most animals that I get hives around their owners, and these two little darlings didn't affect me at all. read more

My fiance and I stayed only one night mid-October. The Inn is beautiful and clean, the owner was gracious and a very hard-working lady. Yes, the shower was on the small side, but to complain about that is ridiculous. The bed and pillows were so comfortable that we searched for a label to find out about purchasing some for our house! Breakfast was delicious, and we really enjoyed our conversation with Kristie, the owner. We would definitely return to this fantastic Inn and charming town. read more

My husband and I visited the Harbor House Inn last year and couldn't wait to return again this season. We have tried a couple of rooms in the Inn. The choices are from a quaint and very tastefully decorated inn bedroom to a very spacious suite with beautiful water views. The inn was a sea Captian's home and was very charming and tastefully remodeled to suit our needs as an inn and the beds and linens were soo comfortable! We loved the suite with the new balcony the best! Very spacious and beautiful water views. We also loved our inn King room as well when we were here last year. All private baths and all unique. Because the sitting room on the first floor and the water viewing deck were so spacious we spent a lot of time down stairs soaking up the sun and relaxing watching the boats go by. It was very peaceful indeed. The breakfasts were all homemade and served to order. We had homemade quiche, muffins, baked breads and fresh fruit and juices on one day and a baked blueberry French toast to die for on another day. The coffee choices ranged from flavored coffee to traditional medium roast or bold dark roast and plenty of tea. The innkeeper was extremely accommodating and really provided us with everything we could want. Freshly baked cookies in the afternoon, ice for our drinks, and plenty of great tips on sightseeing and local attractions. We were able to see the fireworks from our room as well. What more could you ask for? We are already planning to come back again perhaps for the holiday festivities and will certainly choose the Harbor House Inn. I just got back from staying in Boothbay for 2 nights at the Harbor House Inn. The room was nice and clean but the bathroom in our room was very small. The Inn was updated since it was an old home and bathrooms/showers were added in later - while it was small it was nice to have a private bathroom/shower instead of using the hall bathroom. The owner was very helpful and accommodating - she was able to accomodate my allergies and the breakfast she served was great. There is a nice deck overlooking the harbor - very nice to enjoy while the weather is nice. Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend for others. read more

My husband and I stayed one night near the water at an Inn and one night on the hill while in Boothbay. There was no comparison between the two. The Harbor House Inn was far superior (and half the price!) This Inn is clean and quiet. The location is perfect. There are great views and it's an easy walk into the center of town. The veranda is a spectacular place to enjoy a glass of wine and while away the afternoon. The owners, Monica and Tom, were very friendly and accommodating. They had a breakfast of fruit, warm muffins, omlettes and potatoes ready for us at 7:00 AM so we could get on the road when we needed to. If ever in Boothbay again, we will definitely stay here! read more

Great place to stay in Boothbay Harbor! We stayed two nights here in August 2013 in the Knotmuch room that had a LOT. The room looked small in the pictures but it was adequate for a vacation. The room was decorated nicely and the breakfasts were great--especially when we ate on the porch overlooking the bay. Tom and Monica were great hosts during our stay and were very helpful. The B&B is a very close to the downtown so we could go down and return easily during the day. We went sailing and then our on a lobster boat tour. The price for our room was very reasonable. I will stay here again the next time I am in Boothbay Harbor. Good parking space was appreciated. read more

My wife, son and I stayed for several days in August and our experience at the Harbor House was wonderful. Monica and Tom have done such a fabulous job...the accomodations were splendid and the breakfasts were very yummy...I loved enjoying the fine meals out on the porch overlooking the harbor. The inn itself, and old sea captain's house, was quaint and nicely appointed. Monica and Tom were always helpful with advice...even lent my wife (who is always cold) a jacket for our sail on the Schooner Eastwind. My son loved the tree swing on the side of the house. All in all a great place to stay while in Boothbay Harbor. read more
