I was completely blown away by the quality of the rooms and the amenities! The bathroom is bigger than my living room in my apartment, and there is a huge tub along with the shower. We stayed in the "Mist Trail" suite, and I cannot say enough good things about the friendly family that owns this place. They make it feel like a true home away from home. There's even a man cave complete with huge TV, ping pong, shuffle board, and billiards. Oh yeah, make sure you go out on the balcony and look at the stars after dark!

I found this hidden gem on Orbitz while searching for a last-minute getaway for NY weekend. Oddly enough, we were looking for a cabin/hotel where we could stay indoors, along with the following criteria: balcony with a nature view and a soaking tub. I wasn't particularly searching around the Yosemite area but as I expanded my search radius, this lodge had what we wanted at a reasonable price. (NOTE: Their prices are the same on the website and third-party sites, but if you book through Orbitz, you can get 15% off whenever they have those coupons.) Before I get into my usual (lengthy) storytelling mode, here are some quick references: - Inn the Woods Suites is located right next to Nature's Inn Bed & Breakfast. Kathy, the owner of the property, recently opened Inn the Woods Suites while her daughter runs Nature's next door. - When you arrive, you'll see's Nature's Inn and to the left is a pebble road that leads down to the parking lot of Inn the Woods. (We were a little confused due to the intense fog that rolled in) - The parking lot is pretty small (maybe 5-7 cars max?) - To check in, just head over to the front door (over a small bridge) and follow the instructions on the wall (need to call Kathy to let her know you've arrived) She will let you in! - If this is your first time in the area or visiting Yosemite, the owner has graciously put together a binder full of resources for nearby restaurants, park maps, hiking trails, sightseeing and so forth to help you make the most of your stay (super thoughtful and thorough) - The kitchen has a nice toaster oven, microwave and bbq grill on the balcony but no stovetop or oven. We brought an electric skillet for our stay. The kitchen is stocked with everything else, and then some (i.e. cups, plates, utensils, foil, sandwich bags, etc.) - There are pastries, fruits, coffee and condiments for you to enjoy, which are replenished every 2 days (so delicious and wonderful) - In December, it was dangerously foggy; recommend driving slowly carefully - During our stay, we found the public wifi to work better than their password-secured wifi (they were having some trouble with connection) On to the story! We set out early morning on Saturday and spent the late-morning/early afternoon at Yosemite National Park (In December, the Mirror Lake hike was frozen with black-ice trails the entire way...so exhausting but absolutely stunning). The fog was dangerously thick on our way to the guest house and we missed a few turns because we couldn't see a thing. Luckily, we made it in one piece and followed instructions for check-in (which begins at 4PM). Kathy greeted us and gave us a thorough walkthrough of the house (which she owns) and her binder full of resources. That was the last interaction we had with the owner until check-out (very private and considerate). Note: We booked the Mist Trail Suite. We spent the rest of the weekend (Sat-Mon) indoors, taking advantage of the soaking tub, bbq grill on a killer balcony (it's HUGE) and DirectTV (oh, how I've missed cable and FX movies). We also brought our Chromecast to watch Netflix in the bedroom off an iPad (who are we...). The king-sized bed has one of those super-soft faux fur blankets underneath the top blanket, which kept us warm and cozy (we woke ourselves up from our own snoring...it was too comfortable!) Meals were made on the electric skillet we brought and it was helpful to have the toaster oven. It was the perfect mini-getaway for some serious r&r away from it all. Highly recommend this guest house for couples and families alike looking for an escape into nature. Book in advance as I imagine this place won't stay hidden for much longer.

I also loved that the air conditioning was already on when we arrived--it made the room feel welcoming and comfortable right away. If you're staying here, I definitely recommend checking out Oakhurst Grill & Whiskey Lounge 41. The steak was delicious! Pandori Express, the Indian restaurant nearby, was also excellent. The continental breakfast was another highlight. The ladies taking care of the breakfast area were absolutely amazing and truly went above and beyond. They worked hard to keep everything clean, organized, and stocked, and they were so attentive to the guests. They really deserve to be recognized for their excellent service. The gentleman who checked us in that morning was also very helpful and provided great customer and suggestions. I would definitely give him five stars as well. I do have a couple of constructive observations that I hope management will take in the spirit intended. In the afternoon, there was a young lady with long hair at the front desk. I didn't get her name, but unfortunately, her customer service came across as though she didn't really want to be there. When you speak with her, she answers the question, but there isn't much eye contact or engagement. There was also no greeting or goodbye. At one point during breakfast, I mentioned to her that the coffee was out. She acknowledged it, but when we were leaving, I checked the same pot and the coffee still had not been refilled. I think some additional customer-service training could be helpful. A simple hello, eye contact, a friendly attitude, and a goodbye can make a big difference in a guest's experience. One other small observation was the bottom of the shower. It had a somewhat dirty appearance. I understand this may be partly due to the type of material or finish used, and I'm not necessarily saying it wasn't cleaned. However, the material seems to hold onto a look that makes the shower floor appear dirty even when it may be clean. It would be great if the hotel could find a better cleaning solution or consider a different finish/material that would eliminate that appearance. Overall, though, I had a good experience. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and accommodating, and I would definitely come back. The breakfast staff and morning front-desk gentleman deserve special recognition for making our stay even better. I'm sharing the positives and the constructive feedback because I think this is a hotel with a lot going for it, and a few small improvements could make the guest experience even better. I would definitely recommend staying here! And the changes this would be a Five Star!

The town of Oakhurst is my favorite as it offers great amenities that are the closest to the best entrance to Yosemite in my opinion. Lets start with the food. This is one of the best culinary experiences I have had and it is consistently good. The three course or five course dining service is stellar. These chefs are some of the best in the world and Ive been all over the world. The leadership of Erica is not to be surpassed. She has an incredible calm spirit with a smiling happy crew that provides top notch service with warmth and class. The bartender Jordan is a delight with his great smile and kind eyes. The food experience made me feel like I was being nourished from the inside out not just with nutrition but with love and flavor that was new and revitalizing. This was my first stay at the Chateau Sureau. Oh my heart. I feel that I was healed and restored from a level of stress I dont think I realized I was carrying from our busy crazy noisy world at home. The property is exquisite with old world charm and the perfect patina of age that makes you feel you are in the old country of Paris or Austria or England. The landscape is stunning and it was raining so the fireplaces were roaring and the pines were glistening with silver drops backlit by an incredible sunset. The breakfast service is top notch and the staff is incredibly attentive. You know its good when you know each others names. Thanks to Lorenzo, Sienna, Logan, Jissel and Lori for incredible Chalet guest service. Then, there is the spa. I just had to go since I was feeling like my life was coming back to my ownership again. The Spa is gorgeous. The spa. director Way has been on this property for 20 years. I had the best facial and conversation with her. What a treasure she is. Kim was my massage therapist and she is one of the best I have ever had and my son at home is a therapist as well so I feel qualified to say so. I got to spend my time in the couples massage room which has stunning views, a balcony that looks out from the hot bubbling soaking tub that you get to use after your massage. I had a choice of oils to add and we went with elderberry which is incredible for soft skin. Its absolutely wonderful. The small scale in size lent itself to making connections with other guests that were fantastic and I made friends here while staying that will last! I will be back everytime I am in town. I was here on a rainy weeks end and it added to the magic. I can imagine what it is like in spring when the gorgeous grounds are covered in flowers blooming. I cant wait to see it again then or even next month for the holidays!
