This small motel lodge is located in a nice wooded area with convenient access to the park entrance just a few miles away from Mariposa Grove. The rooms are nice and shaded. Many have adjacent parking, but some require stairs which may be difficult if you have heavy luggage. Our shower was small - otherwise our room was fine for two people. The AC works but was too noisy. The smallish mattress and pillows in our room defiantly needed updating. That's an easy fix. There is a really nice (and quite large) restaurant and bar. Breakfast and dinner were excellent - we met the chef who is new. He cooked up excellent meals! Overall, id stay here again if I planned to eat here and knew that the bedding was updated. read more

Booked a stay here last minute on our way to Yosemite for two nights. It has a cute cabin feel, located in a forest with a deck outside your room. Our room was the king size one. The price was a bit high for what we got, but it was the closest hotel with decent reviews that had availability still (can you tell we procrastinated planning this trip lol). I dislike that they didn't put a fitted sheet on the mattress. A flat sheet will just end up moving around and revealing the mattress. There was also no mattress cover, so it made me feel gross when the sheet moved and I was touching the actual mattress. It's a great location and pretty close to a lot of things to see and do. Only about another 30-40 minute drive until you are in Yosemite. There's also a fridge, which was helpful for the food that we were bringing hiking with us. We had a strange experience with the guest in the room next to us. The parking lot is right outside the room doors and it's a very small parking lot, so imo it really doesn't matter where you park. The first night we got there, we dropped off our stuff and went back out to try to catch the sunset. When we came back that night, we parked in the space near our room since it was available. The man in the room next to us happened to be right behind us in his car, and after we parked and got out, he got out of his car and told us we were "in his spot" because "that's his room" then pointed to the room right next to ours, as if the spaces were reserved. We ended up moving and letting him have his way. I know this isn't the hotels fault, but I'm just writing this to warn people that other guests might feel very strongly about being able to park in front of their room, so just beware lol. read more

Narrow Gauge is the perfect get away that doesn't break the bank. It gives you the cabin feel with all amenities. Some items in the room are outdated however, nothing that bothered me much as the price is right. What I loved most about the room was the terrace. It is located close enough to Yosemite and right next to the Sugar Pine Railway Train. (You can walk over) They do have a restaurant on the property that is a plus. The property is NOT well maintained, trash under stairs, very old and outdated rooms that smell really bad. Though staff tries to be nice, they are clueless and you have to ask for basic service multiple times. Very poorly managed and run. This is hard because I know the place is rustic. So some might think it's a four. We had a king size bed, and we had access to a nice deck with a stream, but you couldn't open the door and get out because of the bed. Some of the upgrades weren't done very well. We either were too cold or too hot when using the heater. It did come with a refrigerator and there was plenty of room. It's very close to the jazz train so we could walk. The bed was very comfortable. Also, you got hot water instantly. Also, the sink and toilet are fairly new. So we are told that they're gonna do some upgrades to the rooms this winter which will be great. Also, Elena, one of the housekeepers was very helpful in retrieving something that went under the bed. The rooms don't have a microwave. To heat up your food, you have to go to the office and wait in line. After hours you have to wake up the attendant and have them meet you in the office. The water smalls horrible (and tastes it too). The attendant said it's from the creak water source, but it was metalic and smelled like rusty pipes. When we got there, we discovered that the bed linen had been slept in (wrinkled kn one side) and blond and brunette hair all over. I'm grey and my wife has black hair. When asked to provide clean linen, the office brought linen that also had hair on it. It took three changes to get truly clean linen. Yuck. The tub faucet was broken and the TV satellite reliever didn't work. And apparently the last renter's had taken the remote. Nice location and quaint surroundings (that's what attracted me to the inn), but not worth it. Not cheap. The manager at the time apologized and said next time to call directly for a better rate. When I called, that manager had left and the new manager, when asked to honor the prior manager's offer, said he had nothing available. I checked online and they had 6 rooms available. Nice lie. Thank you, the Yosemite View Lodge appreciates our business. We're booking 8 deluxe rooms for a group outing and you lost the sale. I don't recommend this place to anyone. So sad, because it's such a nice location, close to the park. read more

Stayed Here For about 20 mins the smell in the room was like walking into a wall of moldy smell the Phone cord fell out of the reciever the TV only showed infomercials the carpet appeared to be 100 years old, the photos on the site were not the same as the room we had the deck was a 2 foot by 2 foot space several of the stairways were broken down the pool was half empty and full of debris the hallway had carts with laundry sitting there the office had a phone number to call to to check in and wait for a teenager to show up. the bathroom had leaky faucets really old dirty fixtures The manager i confronted about all the issues said everything looked fine to him. i could go on but wow i would never stay here !!! read more

We stayed here for a friend's wedding just up the road, and it was okay. The pictures online made it seem more up-to-date than it really was. I called a week ahead to ensure I could check in early since I was in the bridal party. They said no problem. My husband and I got there about 2 hours prior to check in (check-in is at 3pm) and the room wasn't ready until 2:50pm. We may as well have just shown up at the regular time. They did our paperwork early but we couldn't even get in the room until pretty much at check-in. So don't expect an early check in, if you ask for one. The room was okay, it was really dark and poorly lit. There were burn marks and stains on the mattress, which was disconcerting. For the price of the room, we expected something a little more clean and current. Everything kind of seemed like it was 20-30+ years old. "okay" for the location, but that's about all the place has going for it unfortunately. read more

We have been staying at this Inn for years! The property is nice and feels secluded. It's always quite and feels so relaxing... Our favorite room is #40 - it's on the corner next to a little creek and we just love it. If you frequently stay here, call to make reservations instead of doing it online. You may get a better rate! Rates are usually good regardless though! The room is comfortable, clean, and just enough space for a couple. It's got a great cabin feel to it! Stayed here in 2017 and really enjoyed it. Our room was located on the lower portion of the property, and we had a nice view. I recall the room was a bit dated, but the antiques made it quaint. The property was well maintained. This time however, we had a "mountain view room". It was on the upper portion of the property , same level as the office and our view was of the parking lot below. This room had no antiques and very 1970's. Poor lighting, especially in the bathroom. When I turned the faucet on in the sink the water initially came out rust colored. The shower head and turn faucet were coming out of the wall/lose. The property's plants and flowers were all dead and needed watering or trimming. The location is perfect for Yosemite, and we took the train ride which was very nice too. The pool was under construction too. I was just a bit disappointed this time. Staff very nice. Also, when we were here before they offered breakfast which was super convenient. No more. We didn't try dinner there. read more

This hotel has the nicest staff I have ever encountered and I travel a lot. We arrived with a flat tire and the office manager offered to find us a tire and help replace it. They found a tire store that could order a tire overnight and put it on the next morning. They saved our vacation and I am so grateful. Nice rustic accommodations and on site restaurant. Very cute and quaint! I wanted to squeeze in a quick nature getaway for some peace and tranquillity. I checked in earlier than 3pm and the room was ready for me. The room feels like a cabin with a more modernized bathroom. I do have a couple gripes: the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything ! I kept waking up to foot steps above me. I definitely recommend booking the single level room facing the forest. There will be nobody above you and you can hear the creek water better. Also, Their highly rated restaurant was closed! Was really looking forward to trying the food. The skies look great at night and there are cool little paths surrounding the Inn. Sugar pine railroad is right next door to book a train ride and to visit the museum . Yosemite is just 4 miles up the road! read more

Spent a comfortable night at this authentically rustic lodge just outside Yosemite's South Gate (Hwy 41). Highly recommend the Aroma Tavern Restaurant. The food was delicious, very generous serving sizes and a wonderful menu that made it hard to decide. We enjoyed carrot ginger soup, calamari (small bites plate piled high with so much deliciousness), winter apple salad loaded with the good stuff, and homemade chicken pot pie. All were great choices. Next time I'll try the short ribs. To top it off, the service was exceptional and we loved our delightful server Jai. She was so attentive and fun to talk to. Great location for Yosemite! Rustic inn that looks like it had some recent remodels. Overall it was clean, quiet place to sleep. Rooms a little small with a large bathroom that included a desk space with coffee maker. Our room had a little balcony with an amazing view of the mountains. I mean really amazing! My main issue was that the mattresses were rather worn and could be replaced. Also the heater was really noisy. Desk staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the grab and go breakfast provided by the restaurant. The portions were huge and the fruit was fresh and delicious. Lobby features a cute gift shop with snacks, sundries etc... Also a microwave fir guest use. Great little place to stay between Yosemite and Oakhurst. I really like this place! They have a wonderful spot close to Yosemite. The restaurant and bar is very nice and the staff is fantastic. The hotel rooms are a little small, but just fine for a night or two. I probably wouldn't want to spend a week here though. The hotel staff was very kind and accommodating. Check in and check out were easy! You can park right outside your room if you're lucky, for easy loading and unloading. The rooms are clean, cozy and comfortable. I'd recommend The Narrow Gauge Inn as a good place to stay for a Yosemite visit. Wow! So many nice reviews! How crazy! We chose to try this Inn as we'd passed it several times in our way to Tenaya Lodge. We were looking forward to a quaint Inn experience with the dining and bar so highly spoken of on Yelp. Alas! When we arrived, we were told the Restaurant and Bar were closed. Seems good delivery was unavailable. And the bar was also closed. We were invited to try Tenaya Lodge. The next day we tried dining there again, but this time there was something wrong with the pipes. Again, Tenaya Lodge was suggested. I see there is a review posted a day ago raving about the restaurant. I can only assume this is a bogus review as the restaurant and bar were closed both days I was there. As for the room, we were put in #43. We were told this was the most popular room. Ok, popular to whom? The water didn't run, the shower head sprayed the wall not the shower, and what few "amenities" which were provided were a joke. Oh, and the TV was BROKEN! Not that it didn't work. IT WAS BROKEN! My wife and I really looked forward to a nice experience at a quaint mountain retreat. We were sadly disappointed. We will never return. I would give a 1-Star rating but Sarah, who checked us in, was a very pleasant young lady. It would be unfair not to point that out. My advice? Stay in Oakhurst, or the NGI's highly recommended Tenaya Lodge. read more

Great affordable stay near Yosemite! It's 8 minutes from the south west entrance to Yosemite, but an hour from the valley floor. There is AC, heater and a fan! A small fridge and tv are also in the room. everyone here is extremely kind and hospitable! There was an issue with the toilet, but it was fixed immediately. The restaurant at this inn is great! Everything is made to order (even breakfast - you let the front desk know in advance!) It is a bit further from the main attractions at Yosemite and the entire drive is through a windy road, which made it difficult to visit the park. There's not a huge choice of reasonably-priced accommodation at this end of Yosemite National Park, and the Narrow Gauge Inn does offer a certain rustic charm I guess. It didn't seem hugely busy when we arrived, so after a very friendly check-in we were soon in our room, which was down one flight of stairs at the rear of the building. The room décor was a bit chintzy bordering on twee, and it wasn't the largest space; however the bathroom area is quite large and contains a dresser area doubling as a workspace, with kettle and biccys, and an open wardrobe area to hang clothes. The balcony-cum-walkway outside has another couple of chairs to enjoy the evening air, although the view isn't particularly spectacular. Sadly, the restaurant wasn't open on our visit so we were directed up the road to the Tenaya Lodge hotel, where we had a very expensive and over-cooked piece of salmon. However, the Narrow Gauge Inn did manage to supply a light breakfast, which gave us the chance to see their dining room with its collection of stuffed bison and moose heads. I loved the vintage fire engine in the yard and the few remaining railway relics around were interesting too - a hangover from the days when it was connected to what is now the Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad. read more

What a great find! Stayed for one night on our way into Yosemite Valley. Friendly and accommodating staff. Easy check in and access to our room. Parking was directly in front of our door. We had a single story creekview room, and the atmosphere was quiet and serene. We could hear the creek from our room and see it off of our balcony. Property was well maintained and adorable. We had everything we needed. Even a little refrigerator. There were sweet little trails to sitting areas through the grounds, perfect for relaxing with a good book or early evening happy hour. The pool was open and clean but we didn't have time to take advantage of it. Due to the recent post-COVID re-opening of the restaurant, breakfast was takeout only, but we did manage to enjoy the restaurant for late night coffee and delicious dessert. It was fascinating to see the incredible craftsmanship and historical design of the interior of the restaurant and bar. Super quaint and romantic! For the OHV enthusiasts, there are some great riding trails across the street from the inn at the Miami Creek OHV area. A mix of wide fire roads and narrow single track trails. Just beware of some trails needing maintenance, especially downed trees that block access to some areas. You just have to bring your patience and enjoy the adventure! The Sugar Pine Railroad next door offers different train tours through the area. It was relaxing and a lot of fun. We'll definitely be back for their Moonlight tour and BBQ. Although it's not brand new and the rooms aren't 5 star, the Inn is very accommodating and a very pleasant place to stay and I would recommend it any day over your standard Best Western type hotel in the area. read more

This place is the definition of quaint. It's adorable. We had a wonderful room right on the corner of the lower rooms with a forest view. It rained one whole day of our stay and we really got to enjoy it in our cozy little room. If you're looking for five star resort, this isn't it. This place is an adventure of its own and we loved it for that. The WiFi is spotty, but embrace it, you're in Yosemite! We brought our own Nespresso machine (highly recommend doing that) as they just have the little drip coffee machines in the rooms. We really loved drinking an espresso on the patio watching the stream. I gave it four stars because it's perfect for what it is: a charming local hotel with history. This place is perfect for anyone looking to vacation in Yosemite! My partner and I went up to this place last November, and it was gorgeous, clean, comfy, and the food at the bar/restaurant is excellent! It's only ten minutes from the park's entrance, and about fifty from Yosemite Valley and Tunnel View. The drive into Tunnel View takes a long time from here, but the prices are better than anything else I found nearby. The rooms you get are perfectly-sized warm, comfy, and convenient. They even come with TVs (why would you come out here to watch tv but it's definitely a bonus) I thought I was getting a sparse cabin, but I cozy mattress, comforter, and a spacious bathroom and a porch to sit and take in the mountain air. George, one of the staff at the restaurant, makes a drink called "The Wife-Getter" it's super tasty, and it will knock you on your ass a bit. He, like the rest of the staff are super friendly! I wanted to surprise my partner with a surprise vacation to Yosemite, they thought we were just stopping by for a little bit. She thought we would be staying in a different county, and pointed out the Narrow Gauge as we passed it on the road (the first time either of us saw it in person) and said "that's it, let's just stay here." We will be coming back for sure. read more

While visiting Yosemite recently (October 2019) with our dog, we needed a pet-friendly place to stay, and found the very reasonably-priced Narrow Guage Inn. With only a few rooms left, we made the reservation for a room with a King bed for $110/night. We could not have been happier with our accommodations. The Inn and grounds are cute, cozy and rustic, with views of the forest and even a beautifully-restored antique fire engine on display. The room we rented (25) was very large and private as it was located directly behind the office all by itself (unlike the other rooms that are located side by side). The room was very well equipped with a comfortable (but slightly-saggy) king bed, comfy loveseat, armoire (for a closet), credenza, tall dresser, and very large nightstand tables. The room also had a refrigerator, ceiling fan, floor-standing fan, satellite TV, and coffee maker. A HUGE private deck with views of the forest, tables and chairs made the room seem like a private suite. The proprietor has even provided local area activity brochures in the room for your review and invite you to take them with you - very handy. The private bath was well-equipped with shower/tub, hair dryer, and all the usual amenities. Since this room is not adjacent to any other rooms it is exceptionally quiet and perfect for a couple with a dog. Since the Narrow Guage Inn has a history associated with the old and adjacent Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad we also made sure to enjoy a ride with our pooch on this old restored steam train through the forest that was a lot of fun. If traveling with kids this ride would be a must! Sadly the restaurant located at the Inn was had just been closed (for dinner) for the season, and it is seemingly the highest-rated restaurant in the area. We did however enjoy and very nice buffet breakfast for only $10 at the restaurant and the operator Bill was very accommodating and offered many suggestions for sightseeing in Yosemite. Avis at the front desk was very nice and pleasant. Overall, the Narrow Guage Inn was great for us and we would be very happy to return. read more

Loud and old If you like hearing every word your unknown neighbors say at midnight this is the place for you. 1st night room next store had a baby, the baby cried off and on all night (babies cry, not complaining about that) but it sounded like the baby was in our room. We could hear every word the parents were saying to the baby to try and get him to sleep. We were unable to sleep that night and basically ruined our day in Yosemite. 2nd night was different guest but again they might as well be in our room. I could hear snoring all night as well as their entire conversation. When their iPhone alarm went off I literally reached for my phone to shut it off. The room was clean enough but so old and worn. We thought we coming to a cool funky small hotel but it's just plain old. They told us the hot water comes slowly and to let the sink run for a few minutes lol maybe after 15 minutes you may or may not get more than Luke warm. The shower head was a stream and should have been replaced 10 years ago. Linens seemed clean enough but looked frayed and old. This place is not worth the charge - please don't respond with your standard response about many guest enjoying the value. Unless you like paying a lot of money to be awake all night go elsewhere. Had I known the area better I would have just stayed in Oakhurst at a quiet clean hotel with actual running hot water only 15 minutes more from the park entrance. read more

Been here 5 times. The first three were fine. Rustic motel in a quiet part of the woods. Restaurant that is SOMETIMES open. The fourth time we rented the house. It was hot. The AC only cooled one room. The other AC unit/s were broken. The house was filthy and we had to scrub it ourselves. The plumbing broke, septic overflowing. They offered part of our group other rooms. The fifth time we stay will be our last. The pool was broken, not shared with us prior to booking. And overnight, the plumbing broke AGAIN. No showers so we left, never to return. Too bad because it has a lot of potential. Hopefully new owners take over and give it the attention and maintenance it needs. read more

So charming! great service! Amaaaaazing food. We decided last minute to stay an extra night in the area, and it was Labor Day weekend. We considered Tenaya Lodge, but it felt like a Vegas hotel. Big, loud, and all too much. We got one of their forest-side rooms, #47, and loved it! Even though we had neighbors on both sides, they were all very quiet. We enjoyed a nice chat with one of them while enjoying the rocking chairs on our back porches. The main lobby and restaurant have been kept in immaculate condition, and it felt great to be in a place with so much history. Our room was basic, but super comfy. The memory foam mattress was divine, and the AC and ceiling fan made us forget about the heat. It was very old-school, and I loved that about it. It would cost a fortune to rebuild the place to have central HVAC and all, so I'm glad they haven't gone that far. Fresh new flooring and classic quilts on the comfy bed were enough for me. Dinner was amazing, with house-made cheese, wild arugula, and (according to my boyfriend) the best meat (of any kind) he'd ever tasted in their imported Venison. Breakfast was more basic, but also with great service. The pool was clean and charming, although quite cold. Perfect for a quick dip after a hard day on the trails, though. Loved the babbling brook next to the rooms, and enjoyed a nice morning meditation and stroll there. Also took a stroll to the rail museum and line for which the inn is named. We'd just missed the 11:00 train, but enjoyed some fresh baked cookies before heading home. We met people from all over the world but could just as well have kept to ourselves when we chose to. I look forward to visiting this peaceful gem again. read more

We recently stayed in room 28. All of the surfaces were covered in a thick layer of dust, which made me think no ones stayed in that specific room for a while?! There's definitely a difference between dusty and dirty though, so other than that, it was clean! I carry Clorox wipes with me when I travel so it really wasn't a big deal. I probably would have been upset about it if I didn't have the wipes or if the employees were rude (seems to be common in California hotels), but omg everyone was so so so nice!!! The wonderful personnel combined with the beautiful & quaint property made for an absolutely lovely stay. read more

This place does not look like much when you pass by it but it has a VERY BEAUTIFUL balcony view in many of the rooms overseeing the forest. This place was marvelous. It was the only place we found available for a spontaneous trip to Yosemite and at the lowest price. Now, the price is NOT super cheap ($180ish/night) BUT, much cheaper than anything around...just couple minutes over is another hotel @ $300+/night soooooo yea lol. Anyway In regards to service: Great, Absolutely no complaints. We were only there for 2 days and everything was quite nice. The rooms were very clean. I believe there was a small issue with plumbing or something but nothing so bad to the point where we would be mad. In regards to parking: We did not have to pay extra which is always a bonus and in top of that PETS ALLOWED. I believe it was $225 but i can't remember off the top of my head.
