Only card-carrying educators and community organizations represent their customer base and must sign in with proof of membership, before entry is permitted. Watch the lot for RISD vans. Both the students (from RISD) and the recycle center are small, but quite serious about what they do.

A bit tricky to find the drop off area - google gets you to the entrance no problem but then you need to follow the bright yellow Eco Depot signs. Super nice lady at the weigh station helped direct me. Did you know you can recycle used cooking oil?! Note: they recycle rigid and food packaging styrofoam (needs to be collected in clear plastic bags which Im unclear as to why, but I think they provide bags if needed). They don't take the squishy spongy kind of Styrofoam, and no packing peanuts.

He even helped me bring the boxes from the truck into the facility, which I really appreciated. Today (a Saturday), the website said they were open from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon. We arrived at about 10:30 a.m. there was an open sign on the door and the interior lights were on. However, the door was locked and no one was inside. There were two other customers waiting. One said they had been there an hour earlier, and the office was closed then too. If they needed to close suddenly, they could have at least put a sign on the door. Luckily, we ended up finding another shredding facility (Shred RI) very nearby that was open. I'll probably go to Shred RI from now on to avoid this type of inconvenience.

A dumpy place…read more Years ago this place would have been called a dump, now it's a recycling facility. Doesn't matter what they call it, it's still pretty dumpy. Dirty, stinky with piles of stuff everywhere, you will definitely need a shower after visiting this place. But then that's not necessarily a bad thing. Warwick likes to recycle and does a pretty damn good job of it. Over 10,000 tons of stuff like cans, bottles cardboard, electronics. plastic and even major appliances are collected and recycled. The town even makes most of the recycling painless and easy for it's people. Warwick has curb pickup for a lot of the crap but for certain items like yard waste or huge kitchen appliances it is sometimes easier just to bring the stuff to the recycling center yourself. Sure a it's dirty and stinky place but pretty cool in it's own way. Lots of stuff to look at and I always have fun there. Even though Warwick has a very commendable and aggressive recycling program it goes beyond just that. It lets residents come and take nice stinky compost for free. Every year we go and get several truck loads for our garden. Even though we have our own compost bin we just never seem to have enough of the stuff. Now we can get all we want. Recycling is a stinky and sometimes nasty job but so very, very necessary. Warwick makes the job easy with curbside pickup and the recycling center. Plus you can even get all the stinky compost you want. The world is a better because of dirty and stinky places like this.
