I used to visit Insight Optometry and Dr. Ng a few years ago. Working in the South Bay Area though, it unfortunately became too inconvenient. With the COVID pandemic however, I found myself back in the area, working remotely. So back to Insight I went. They really have done a fantastic job introducing a clean and safe process with regard to COVID, while also keeping it relatively hassle-free. Call for an appointment (I was able to be slotted in within a day of my call). There's some simple paperwork to fill out ahead of time available on their website. On arrival, just give them a quick call to let them know you're outside. Someone comes out to let you in and a spray of hand sanitizer. The vision exam went very smoothly and I felt very safe with the cleanliness of various equipment and handling of them. For example, the staff would hand me the tool to cover my eye via a tray. Picking out glasses was done at the counter, instead of you walking around and grabbing glasses off the shelves. I actually commented to the staff it worked out better for me as I usually become very indecisive in the face of so many options. Having the staff guide me through selections and narrow them down was great. I've been wearing my new pair of glasses for a few days now and I'm extremely happy with them. I'm considering even after the pandemic to make the hour long drive up to do my eye exams here. read more

Been coming here for several years. In person the staff are great. The problem continues to be their communication. I've been frustrated more than once. I've used their portal to send a message with a question and going on two weeks now I can't seem to get the doctor to respond to me directly. Rather, I've been going back and forth with staff that don't have any idea what I'm talking about and I'm correcting them. Now they stopped responding all together. I like the convenience of this location and the in-person service but once you're out of there it's like a roadblock trying to get additional help from the doctor. After so much back and forth there's no excuse why the doctor hasn't called me directly. And if he is not aware of the back and forth, then that's yet another issue. read more

staff is average and prior covid... good. now i'm taking my families vision elsewhere. i love the Blackfin line and how they look and feel. ...but not enough to pay 45$ for running late and missing my slotted window for appt. **no more than 2 miles away my appt i had to pull over and assist somebody's grandfather swap out a tire. i was already running late. i was still in my surgical scrubs, traffic was an even flow but temp was getting up there and to pass an elderly man noticeably struggling / wiping sweat from his brow, there was no way ignoring him was going to happen. i felt it necessary. ** -How many of you would ignore your grandmother or grandfather on the side of the road? how many of you would charge the person who helped your grandmother or grandfather who ran late 30 minutes for this reason? -i don't control who and when comes thru the doors in the ED. i don't control how long that emergency case i've scrubbed may be. i also don't charge you for my time. -yes. i ran late. yes i need my sharkfins; but i'm not paying 45$ for my day running late. it would've been wiser to accept the late and see the frames. then sell the crazy prices you have for all the extra shit with the lenses. anti-scratch. lol its gunna scratch if you don't pay. anti-blue, anti glare. anti racism.... and what ever other anti you can sell. i'll take my business and buy anti-late fee cuz we'll get you in upgrades later option. have a great day. what options or fees could i charge you or your family if you came to my place of business? smh. read more

While I appreciate the staff. I just thought I'd share a concern. I normally need nose guards for my glasses, so I'm familiar with the cost of getting them. Anywhere from $35-$45. After picking out my frames and mentioning my need of nose guards, they were charging me $85. I thought it was quite steep, though I didn't want to go through the process of having them done elsewhere. When it was time to pick up my glasses and trying them on, a $50 receipt fell off. I asked what it was for and was initially informed it was for the nose guards. I then mentioned that I was charged $85 for it. The staff told me that they don't charge extra, inquired with someone else and came back telling me that the receipt wasn't for me. I asked who they go to for nose guard repair. After walking out the door, I called the place. They told me that they charge $40 plus shipping and handling ($50). So I went back in to let them know. The woman behind the wall waved back at the woman at the counter which I assumed meant, "refund her the difference." And so they did. I understand inflation, though $35 extra is a stretch. Just be careful and mindful of what you're being charged for. read more

Thanks to my employer and my awesome VsP vision plan (lol) Soooo - I'm a faithful Kaiser member (not born but raised) and I'm used to hitting up my HMO for everything related to my healthcare needs... But.... My vision plan sucks with kaiser and I don't have the patience to order contacts/eye glasses and apply for a refund through VSP. Enter insight optometry :-)... the employees were so kind and welcoming - much more than I'd expect whilst visiting optical sales @ Kaiser. I faxed my prescription yesterday and they had my contacts ready the next day and the payment process was miles away from a headache annnnnnnnnd they're next door to Starbucks and jack in the box which makes me all the more happier for some strange reason. read more

8/5/22- I made an appointment just to look at frames, I received at least 5 text messages, and 3 emails, explaining office policy that I needed to mask up and call when I arrive in the parking lot. I came here last week for my contact lenses fitting. I have called and left a VM x2- one last week and one yesterday. I never got a call back. I don't think my lenses are appropriate fit. Insight Optometry in Hercules CA practices social distancing. There are staff present in the office, but there is no physical contact. Outside the office there are floor markings to physically distance yourself from others in the queue. Inside, a greeter stands away while I stood at a designated area in front of the counter that is shielded with clear plastic similar to banks or the grocery store cashier. On this occasion I was 8 minutes early for my appointment, I parked and called, they asked me to wait outside. No one outside was waiting, they let me in took my temperature and asked me to sanitize my hands. I put on my glasses and left without any problems. It was a quick visit. The greeter was polite and courteous. I have no reservations about recommending their services. 5 stars! read more

Would have gotten 5 stars from me if they took the time to pull in my insurance and charged me the correct copay this day I went in. Dr. Darren Ng answered my phone call when time in need of my flaring Epischloritis episode while on vacation. He had stated he can come and see me right away regardless of the fact the office opens at 930am. That was a PLUS for me since that morning my eyes were falring so bad and painful. His office is located in the shell gas station plaza near jack in the box and radio shack. Very nice office! I fell in love with his taste in "brands" of eyeglasses and sunglasses! Very updated and modern! I was eyeing one of the GUCCI frames during my visit. Anyway his office manager came in while I was filling out paperwork and stated to her if she can run my insurance so I know what is my copay that day. Dr. Ng stated to me on the phone usually a dr's visit is $30. I knew my copay for specialty is $25 for health and I also have vision insurance and he stated to me he was unsure if they carried my "type" of insurance which was HUMANA VISION. The office accepted my Health insurance instead. I noticed that in the middle of having a conversation with his office manager regarding my insurance Dr. Ng called me immediately in the patient room. I didn't like that because I felt I was being rushed. Anyhow - The exam with Dr. Ng was great. His machines and tools were modern and up to date and also he seemed knowledgable for such a young age..well he looked young in my eyes! He agreed what type of eye disease I had and also He stated another issue which I dont think was stated to me prior with my current optomotrist. He was helpful in my time of need however I did not like the fact that the staff was not efficient with the timely manner of dealing with my insurance and now I have to go back to their office and pick up the overcharged payment I made of $5. Any overcharged issue or lack of service for clients/patients is viewed negatively at times. This is a new establishment and so far they are getting 4 stars for the above reasons. BTW - IF I only knew Dr. Ng made balloon sculptures I would have asked for one!!! read more

I had a terrible experience twice, and I obviously try to give people a second chance thus "twice". My glasses were tarnished so I called and they said they can fix them. I got an appt. to come in but for some reason , they had me wait outside their establishment. I felt awkward but asked them why that happened when they came back to give me my glasses. Reason was people are not wearing their masks, but I had mine on.. Figure that out. Second time , a week later , i go back to pick up new glasses and of course , I would like to try them on and check the mirror, but even with my 4:30 appt, I wasn't allowed to come in. What pissed me off is that another gentleman came and walked right in and vivian said he was just picking up his glasses. (BUT I CANT GO IN) That was the last straw. read more
