Dr Lee did a great job on my recent blepharoplasty! My lids are a matching set now! It was a little weird being awake thru the surgery but it was quick and I couldn't have asked for better care from the Surgi Center. No pain, no swelling and just the slightest bruising that's gone now after a week. Don't get me wrong, the lid is tender but healing so nicely. I'm pretty happy with these results!! This place is ridiculous. I went in just for a pair of glasses with a prescription that I already had. The lady gave me a price, I agreed. The glasses were ready for pick up, I paid the agreed upon price and then a week and half later they send a text saying that I have an outstanding balance and they will send to collection. I called and said I already paid and they said oh it's for the reflective lens. I told them they told me the price I already paid had that included and they refused to let it go and I paid but I will never be going back. This place is scamming people! read more

This practice is HABITUALLY LATE seeing patients on time. If you have 45-1hr to spare waiting PAST your scheduled appointment, this is the place for you! Otherwise, I'd like to think MY TIME is just as important. The front desk and medical assistants are great. Dr. Lee is fine but he will make you wait as he's obviously juggling his time between several patients during the hour. When he finally gets to you, you might get 5 minutes with him if you're lucky. Amazing customer service! I called because they are part of my VSP insurance network. I've always gone to Kaiser for my contacts and eye prescription but I was having difficulty changing my contacts prescription to a different brand. Plus the VSP gives a $200 benefit for contacts. I had been purchasing hubble contacts which aren't covered so I just needed a contact prescription and order for a different brand. I had the Bio true contacts years ago and wanted to go back to this better brand. The receptionist and ophthalmologist were able to help me over the phone which saved a trip to the office! I already had a current prescription from Kaiser as well. It worked out perfectly because I was able to get 4 months of contacts and use my insurance benefit which only cost me $26 out of pocket. The facility is beautiful, the contemporary art is stunning but if you want a doctor who you see on time or one who has empathy, walk on by. Doctor Pyun was over a half an hour late for all of my appointments and on two occasions a substitute doctor appeared after I waited for longer than a half an hour for Dr. Pyun. I am losing my eyesight and that's disturbing but there was little empathy for what I'm going through. Dealing with office staff over the phone also has been hit and miss. read more

Worst experience ever! I've been here 3 times for contact fittings, each time having to wait a month or so for an appointment. Every single time I come I have to wait for the doctor to see me. Today my appointment was at 3:30pm it's 4:18pm and I'm still waiting. East Bay Ophthalmology does not care about their patients or respect their time. They only care about the money, trust me I've given them enough of mine considering they can't even do a contact fitting correctly. Update: waited the full hour but left without being seen. They did refund me, but also told me they fell behind because they had to call my insurance-but I came in 10 minutes before my 3:30 appointment to account for that and literally watched them for the whole 5 minutes they spent talking to my insurance, not an hour. Went here after a bad experience at another optometry place in Pinole. Just wanted to get my yearly glasses. Andrea was incredible. She assisted me in finding the perfect glasses, then she informed me that with my insurance, I'm allowed to get another pair for computer and my insurance would cover it...... my previous place never informed me. She was so helpful and went over and beyond what I've experienced in the past! I found out later that she stayed during her lunch to help me...... she was pure customer service and I will be back just because of her! read more

Our negative experience concerns the most incompetent office staff we have ever encountered. The physician, Dr. Lee, seemed OK, but getting to him is nearly impossible. The scheduling people attempt to get you to come in as many times as possible, no matter how unnecessary, to fatten their coffers. For example, we scheduled a procedure months in advance, only to be told the day before that it was only for another worthless consultation, not for the needed procedure. The requisite cancellation caused months of unnecessary suffering. Another issue is the incompetent billing department. They insist insurance doesn't cover whatever you are getting done, or falsely claim that they know that you haven't met the deductible yet, and require pre-payment. When the money comes in from insurance, as it is covered, it is like pulling teeth to get a refund. Everyone on the staff, with whom we have spoken, either have no idea what they are doing, or they are attempting to perpetrate a a scam. I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere for ophthalmological needs. The physicians there need to either hire a new staff, or put some real effort into re-educating the people who represent them. Unless, of course, their incompetence, and negative attitude, are what they desire. read more

Dr. Lee is amazing! He has done both upper and lower eyelid surgery on my eyes. I was hesitant at first, I could see reasonably well. I did think my eyes were looking a little droopy but figured that was just a sign I was getting older. Dr. Lee assured me that I would see better when he repaired my upper lids and I would not have annoying strings in my eyes when he did the lower lids. It is an outpatient procedure and my insurance would pay for it, so I went ahead. Dr. Lee was right I can see much better. The biggest surprise was the change in how I look. I'm not sure if anyone else can see a difference, but I like how my eyes look now. While I don't look like I did when I was younger. I do not feel I have to try and lift my forehead to see or to make my eyes look better. No longer do I look like the demented Rudy Giuliani. I started this review by saying Dr. Lee is amazing here are a few of the reasons I think this: he is gentle, he explains everything in a way that is easy to understand, he makes patients feel at ease, and the procedures he did on me have made me very happy. His office staff is young, friendly and they seem to be happy working in this office. The art-filled waiting room is pleasant. The exam rooms are clean and it appears he has all the latest equipment. I had 2 tiny pieces metal stuck on the surface of my eye because I used crappy eye protection when cutting some metal. Dr John Pyun at East Bay Ophthalmology diagnosed and removed the little nuisances in one visit. Do not go here. They have an office full of inexperienced people who don't know what they are doing and then are rude. I took a poor elderly lady here who had to wait 10 minutes for a receipt - they didn't offer it, she had to ask - and then they had to figure out how to do it. Loved it when the young woman started explaining how medical practices work....I suspect the practice is trying to save money by hiring interns and young inexperienced people - fine, but don't then also be rude and condescending. read more

The office is always over booked. Every time I visited their office, they let me wait from 40 mins to over an hour. It took Dr. Lee less than 3 mins to discuss with me, then sent me to the front desk to make follow up appointments. They're money hungers. They over book and they want you to keep coming back as many time in a year as possible. Also, when I asked the front desk employees for the refund of my co-payment, they made up excuses. I still haven't got my refund yet as of now. I've just disputed a charge through my Wells Fargo Bank. I do not recommend this office to anyone at all. read more

Dr. Lee and his staff are amazing! I brought my parents in to have their eyes checked since they didn't like their previous ophthalmologist. The other doctor tried to get my dad to undergo cataract surgery, but in Dr. Lee's office we found out he was seeing 20/20 and didn't need it at all! Instead, my parents had droopy eyelid surgery and it went very well. Posted below are some pics. The staff were really friendly and courteous to my parents and myself. The wait time was as expected in a doctor's office but was relatively quick. Dr. Lee was very thorough in his examination and explained things well for my parents. **Update** I've taken a star out. I was contacted shortly after originally posting this. I was willing to give them a star back even. They promised to return some of the money I paid for the non existent exam. It should have been all but it was nice they even offered. Well almost a year later and I've received nothing from them. So not only did they lie that that could accommodate a special needs child but also that they would reimburse. I'll give them 2 stars because everyone there I encountered were extremely nice. My issue comes with that when they first called me to make an appointment for my daughter and I asked if they had experience treating not only a 2 year old but a 2 year old with Down syndrome. They said yes, no problem. We get there and I could tell children were not their focus at all. I paid the $270 for the visit then We wait almost an hour before the doctor sees us. She comes in, again very nice. Tried to check my daughters eyes and it wasn't easy which I knew wouldn't be. Then she proceeds to admit they never see anyone under the age of 8. What the.... !!!??? I expressed my concerns to them on the phone before making the appointment. I'm absolutely livid. It was a waist of money, time and was traumatizing to my daughter. I will make my complaints to the pediatrician who recommended them as well. read more

His staff is wonderful, kind, patient, supportive, and very skilled. Additionally, they are very understanding towards seniors. He and his staff were able to deliver in two months what I had to wait for 14-18 months for, and I almost lost my driver's license. He went above and beyond to help with DMV needs.
