However, when he turned 4 and switched to the front "room" (aka open space) with the older kids, things went downhill. The teacher turnover rate was high; the kids are in an "open" area near the front lobby, so there are lots of distractions; and it was often very chaotic when we dropped him off, which would immediately send our son into overdrive! Our son has ADHD and really needed a calm, competent, experienced teacher (or at least some ADHD accommodations) to help him, but that never happened. In fact, we would sometimes get phone calls to come and pick our son up because they couldn't manage his behavior. One time he 'spit' at a teacher (not acceptable but also not surprising considering that when my husband dropped him off several boys were running, screaming, and slamming bathroom doors)! He'd only been at school one hour when we got the call to come get him. Guess the teacher had no clue what to do with a 4-year-old boy who spits. I had to quit working that day, but still had to pay La Petite, of course! And, even more frustrating, by the time we got there, our son had already moved on from the incident and was happily playing outside on the playground. He didn't even know why he was being picked up. When we talked to the director and told her that our son was doing great (with no complaints from his teacher) on the mornings he went to his other specialized school, we were told by the director that La Petite is more of a "play based" school and that our son probably should be in a more structured school. Ironically, that is not what La Petite advertises on their website. They appear to promote STEM learning, and "meeting the needs of every child" but I can tell you from first-hand experience, and from the comments from several other parents we know, that is not what's happening there much of the time. It seems many of the teachers are just in "survival mode" in a space that often resembles a zoo. So, here's my advice: Do NOT choose this school if you: 1) Have a child with any special needs, including ADHD 2) Want your child to learn in a well-organized, calm, clean environment 3) Want to be able to work the hours you need to at your job (without getting phone calls to come get your kid) 4) Want a steady, calm, competent teacher with years of experience who understands the behavior of small children and knows how to manage them 5) Want to get what you pay for -- La Petite is NOT cheap!

Laurie told us all about the school and answered any questions. She gave us the opportunity to visit the classrooms and see how things run. My husband went to a Montessori school as a child, so he experienced a flood of happy memories. It was everything he dreamed of for our active little boy. We returned the next week with our little boy so he could join a class. The staff wanted to see how he fit in. Everything felt good, so we moved forward with enrollment. He's currently doing day care, but will do preschool this coming fall. Our plan is to do three full days a week (you can do full or half days, 3-5 days a week). To start the process of getting our son comfortable, they like to begin with five days. If possible, they like for one parent to stay with the child so they can leave early (probably a half day to start). This is allowing our son a smooth transition. Every child is different, so things can be adjusted depending on how they handle it. I look forward to posting again later once we've spent more time here and learn more. But we love this place so far!!

BCLC was a disaster from the start. My older child recognized one woman from his school and expressed his dislike for her. He's always cheerful and likes pretty much everyone, but was frustrated because he had not liked her as a substitute. I could soon see why. She always seemed frantic and hectic with a frenzied voice. It was easy to see she was impatient and stressed--not good characteristics for being around children. No wonder my extroverted child had noticed something wrong. My introverted child who doesn't like crowds hated the school from the start, and I couldn't figure out why, but I was soon getting calls from the frantic/stressed woman several days a week because she couldn't deal with him. Apparently, her high strung behavior was not a good match. I'd never gotten a call from a daycare to pick up my child before, but suddenly she was throwing fits several times a week. The tone of voice in the voice mails she left was hysterical. My child reported to me that when she got frustrated, she grabbed and pinched his arms really hard and that it hurt. I took photos of the red marks around his wrist. She can't contain herself and can't keep herself from arguing with a six year old who is small for his age...which is NOT okay in a business where one works with kids. Even when she wasn't fighting with my child, every time I saw her or had to interact with her, it was obvious she was rushed and not handling stress well. I am very concerned about a daycare where the frantic/stressed adult fights and argues and cannot be patient with children. The adult should be in charge, and clearly this woman was not. The woman we met when we first started was only there a brief time before suddenly I heard a different director name. I have no idea what is going on there, but they have management issues, and apparently hired a frantic person who didn't work out as a substitute teacher elsewhere. I need to be able to go to work--not take daily calls from a teacher who can't deal with small children. We hadn't had problems with childcare before, and I suspect we won't again. The frantic woman needs to see a therapist to help her de-stress.

Beavercreek Christian Learning Center (BCLC) located in the Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene is a wonderful, well-kept school located in Beavercreek, Ohio, redundant, no? Both my daughters attended preschool here and I fervently wished I kept my eldest daughter in BCLC for Kindergarten instead of letting her go to public school in the Mad River School District. 1) BCLC teachers are well-educated and have their degrees or are working towards higher degrees. Many teachers have been established for many, many years. 2) The facilities are clean, peanut-free, and video-monitored. 3) Impressive organization of facility, activities, etc; no confusion. Newsletters are distributed monthly. 4) There is curriculum! Many children are reading (it seemed like all the students in my eldest daughter's class read) by the time kindergarten rolls around. 5) In-house field "trips" for preschoolers; actual field trips for kindergarteners. 6) Parent involvement encouraged. 7) Chapel on Wednesday mornings; really enjoyed by kids. 8) Christmas Bell performance given by kids is enjoyed by parents and kids alike! 9) Tuition is comparable to all other great schools, lunch is included; preschool time from 8:30-12:30. Extended before and after care provided. 10) VERY IMPORTANT: Never closes unless Wright Patterson Air Force Base closes or for a religious holiday. In this area, all other schools close all the time. Take this into account if you work; especially on supposed "snow days."

Every year, she asks for a new shirt or hoodie with our logo and last year she even added "Alumni" under the logo. AGSP is by far the best preschool program I have seen with an amazing director, wonderful staff, students and families! An amazing place to learn, play and work! A wonderful family experience
