We chose her business because her website was thorough and she was stern over the phone so she gave off the impression that she is professional and to the point. She made several clerical errors on our paperwork, did not like answering questions and rushed us through the entire process. Something as simple as requesting copies from her was like pulling teeth. The ability to book the same day and have everything from the ceremony to the license was amazing. There was something really special about cutting out all the b.s. and just getting to focus on my partner. In the few short moments that we were doing our vows, it made me realize how incredibly important it was for that moment to *only* be about us. There's a floral arch to stand under and it seemed that there were a few artificial flower bouquets to use if you don't have any (ask about this though because I'm not sure). The service delivered was simple and straight to the point; the price point was amazing and I couldn't be more pleased. We actually came in while one couple was finishing up so it was helpful to get a general feel of how the process would go. Queer couples are welcome here - the couple before us, as well as ourselves, are queer and felt very comfortable in the environment. The process is easy: bring your ID, your partner, and $400. Fill out the pre-ceremony forms and wait until it's time to get married. After the paperwork you do the ceremony and vows. Once that's over you sign some more documents and get your copy of the marriage license. We did this all in a matter of maybe 25 minutes. I might be forgetting something but that was the gist of it. After our initial date to sign all legal documents we decided to hire them for a off site official ceremony. We asked for a male ordained priest we got a young woman who didn't know what she was doing. We payed an extra $400 for that off site ceremony only for the ordained priest to not be prepared. Not only was she reading off her phone the traditional ceremony vows. Which she should know by heart. She said my husbands name wrong multiple times even after she was corrected during the ceremony. Me and my fiancé were looking for someone to assist us with getting married on relatively short notice. I spoke with Maria about a week before our date and she told us that she was booked, however we could come in and she would do her best to accommodate and ensured us that we would get married on that date. She asked if I had a marriage license and I said yes. I had filled out an application with the county and paid a $91 fee so I was under the impression that a license would arrive in the mail before our date. No license had arrived by the date of our wedding, so I went to Instant Marriage LA with a copy of the receipt I had for the license application. When we arrived they advised us that the form that I filled out was not sufficient and that I needed a physical marriage license in hand in order to get married. They told us that we could still get married but not at the $200 price we were quoted over the phone, but for the price of $800. She proceeded to tell us that normally she would only charge $400 but since today was a popular day and she had been here since 9am the price would be $800. She told my finance not to look at her because she would feel guilty for raising the price. She told us if we wanted to come back tomorrow (60 mile drive each way) she would accommodate for $400. She also told us that she had plenty of customers and she could basically care less about whether we were married today or not. I tried to see if she would rationalize a bit as I misunderstood the process and was not trying to place any blame on her. I explained that she is selling a service not a product, a service that will have the same value tomorrow as it does today. After going back and forth for a bit. She agreed to only charge us $200 more instead of $400. So we paid $600 plus 3% to use a debit/credit card bc everybody has $600 cash in their pocket. I don't know what was more upsetting, having to pay more, or the lack of empathy/human element Maria displayed. If you can't find anywhere else to get married and don't mind paying whatever price they come up with for today come here. Otherwise, I'm sure there are other places that will provide a fair price and treat you like more than just a number with dollar signs.
