I found Dr Kanter while watching an interview she did with Dr Mercola. I had just found out that the pain in my jaw was coming from a failed root canal. I think I got my infection when my new dentist replaced an inlay with an onlay. The endodontist recommended by the dentist didn't think my molar would survive a root canal procedure and recommended extraction, which meant my other teeth would shift if I didn't replace the tooth or a bone graft to prep for an implant. The solution went from a few thousand dollars to many thousands plus trashing the new $2,000 onlay. I consulted Dr. Megan Rustad and she was very confident (with typical disclaimers) that she could do a successful root canal procedure. She did it! Dr. Rustad drilled through my new porcelain onlay, used laser, GentleWave, ozone, filled the hole, fine-tuned the filling so I didn't need the new onlay replaced, and injected peptides -- all while I was attached to a MEND machine. I felt great afterward and don't need to go back except for a check-up in a year. That night, I could chew steak on that side without a problem (but still didn't much to let it settle). The next day all felt normal and has ever since. Can not recommend this group highly enough. They're all lovely, caring people. I also liked the ShiftWave chair to relax before the appointment -- a nice reset after driving in L.A. traffic. Note: Parking in the building is convenient but expensive. 40 trillion stars!!! Dr Niki was very, very, very, very, very gentle like a mother putting a baby to her bosom for the first time. Oh, the sweetness, education, and the lovely announcements of what he was doing, and how finished we were (what percentage)!!!! I got my dignity handed to me on a silver platter, even though I cleared my throat a lot and was worried. He took charge like the tooth in his command was his only responsibility. There was one second of extremely mild soreness once the tooth was empty of the nerve. If I'd needed more Novocain he would have given it but the second was VERY mild and POOF (!) it was gone. He was very thoughtful because he wanted all of the bacteria gone and threw in some cavities work on the tooth that he saw below the crown line. And because he was really good, I got to keep the crown; it did not splinter. Again, I know what I got. He attacked the bacteria as if he was smoothly replacing a governmental ruler and his bad law minions. (With URGENCY wrapped in an innocent and lively angel's embrace.... and with smooth diplomacy while doing it, knowing every bit of it must go.) He let me have a bathroom brake and was adept at open mouth dental dam gargle intonation talk. (Wa wa wa-wa.... "Oh yea? You have to go to the restroom? Ok, keep it open when you go.") Dr Megan Rustad is the best! She's kind, gentle, extremely competent, knowledgeable of the latest research and humble. She helped me and my family avoid multiple root canals and crowns, where others said they are needed because they didn't have the tools and skills to do excellent less invasive dental work. She once pinpointed the problem by shinning a tiny flash light on the tooth to show the crack line. 2 dentists didn't have that tool and couldn't see the crack leading them to misdiagnose the issue based on guessing. Just had root canal done today. It didnt hurt! The only thing that was uncomfortable was the thing keeping my mouth open. I like this place because they are holistic endodontics! They arent like conventional as they try to avoid toxic stuff in you. They use things such as peptides (if you have blood supply in your tooth, they can use stem cells), ozone (oxygen kills bacteria), laser (kills bacteria), Gentle Wave, red light therapy, etc. I went to another endonotist and she said I'm not sure if the root canal would be successful since she said I had big infection so I had it done here instead. Nik took several xrays making sure it was successful. I'm glad I got to save my tooth instead of having an extraction--so scared of having this done. Nik also asked me numerous times if I was in any pain and he told me what he was doing. I didnt need any laughing gas--just localized shots. Great place! read more

This place is a miracle, specifically Dr. Runstad. She worked with our youngest who needed work done and has a fear of dentists. She was the first person to really talk with our daughter like a person and speak on her level. She helped get her comfortable with the process during the consultation. We made a second appointment and tried to have her do it without assistance, but needed to try again and have an anesthesiologist come in. They had a wonderful one they use named Dr. Chen. Also amazing! They were able to work on all her teeth. While our original recommendation from her regular dentist was a root canal, Dr. Runstad was able to clean and fill the problem areas with no need for a root canal thanks to their o-zone laser treatment. I can't thank them enough for working with us and saving her teeth. They all were incredible. We really loved that they truly believe and use other less invasive methods and natural healing techniques. She also had a lot of new information on how to care and prevent cavities. Update-now that I have had an infected root canal redone by Dr. Kanter, I can say: Amazing experience!! From the "gentle" anesthetic (it wears off ever so gradually, without the weird, numb, tingly sensations) to the relaxation techniques and technologies used (ask them what's available) and the superior cleaning processes-cleaning out the tooth cavity with lasers, a flushing/vacuum system, and ozone; Dr. Kanter goes above and beyond the norm. I truly hardly knew I was having a dental procedure. No pain or discomfort afterwards either. (I bought the ProteoLytic enzyme supplement suggested). I return in six months for a complimentary 3D scan to make sure the infection has cleared in this particular tooth. I wish I lived close enough for her to do all my dental work. My only complaint is the slowness of office staff processing of my super bill. It is close to a month since my procedure and I have not yet received my super bill. I have called multiple times, was even told that it was going to be completed on a certain day and emailed to me, but I have not received it. My sister also saw Dr. Kanter for a root canal and also has not yet received her super bill and her procedure was well prior to mine. On 12/12/24, I woke up at 3am in the morning with terrible pain in one of my molars. Had different opinions from two general dentists and a traditional endodontic practice, and after two weeks of researching for a holistic approach, I found Dr. Kanter was the best option for me to do the root canal. Deeply inept office operation. Scheduling an appointment requires a $200 advance deposit, which I put on a credit card. Later that same day I decided to pursue a different avenue of treatment and called in to cancel the appointment I had made earlier. I was told the manager was out of the office but it would be taken care of upon her return. Days and days pass, the charge remains on my card, and the appointment coming right up just around the corner. I called my credit card issuer to formally open a chargeback request. It's been circa five weeks. They have not replied to the card issuer in all this time. read more

The effects of pregnancy and bruxism did a number on my teeth and I found myself in the chair of a skilled but run of the mill mainstream dentist who was very quick to recommend a root canal. "WITH CERTAINTY" she claimed, this was the only option for me at this point. I just went to Dr Kanter for the first time yesterday afternoon, with severe pain in a tooth that has bothered me on and off for years. I knew it probably needed a root canal procedure but was afraid of the negative side effects of improperly performed root canals, which I have heard so much about (leaving behind bacteria that cause infections which can impact health negatively in a number of serious ways). But once I was in severe pain a few days ago I knew I needed to address it immediately, and I also knew, even though I had never met her before, that Dr Valerie Kanter was the only person I would want to do the procedure. Her name was stored in my mind from an interview that Dr Mercola did with her a few years ago; that interview really impressed me, and I knew that this was a person who really understood how to do a root canal procedure WITHOUT risking harm to the rest of the body. The lovely office staff, understanding my urgent situation, got me in the next day. Dr Kanter had them put me at the end of the day so she would be able to help me in any way that I needed. And I did need a root canal procedure. She and her staff stayed until 7:15pm to complete the work. I was so grateful to them for fitting me in and relieving my pain. The procedure was so easy, completely painless, and even enjoyable. I had a weighted blanket on me, headphones with relaxing music, and Dr Kanter and her lovely assistant Sunny communicated with me at each stage of the procedure.
