I've been taking my truck here for the past 3 or so years, for transmission/differential service and other odds and ends. They've always been awesome to work with with, very communicative and upfront about turnaround. Jimmy is great at what he does. Once I had a strange transmission lurch after a recent service and he told me to bring it by because they had gotten a bad batch of filters. Sure enough, they fixed it and turned around quickly, didn't charge me anything, and it's been trouble-free ever since. For the past 15-20 years I've heard the name intermountain transmission. word of mouth is truly the best advertisement because it's a person's honest opinion. I've had my grandfather on my mother's side use them I've had cousins on my grandmother's side use them . it's always been nothing but amazing compliments. My son saved up and bought his first car the dealership he bought it from scammed him and sold him a lemon .(when we pulled the motor there was so much crack sealant and stop leak bound up in the block the mechanic said he has never seen so much) My son was now in debt with the bank for 15 grand the car that he drove for one week with a blown cracked the mechanic mentioned that the cracks on it had to have recently been put in within a month of that time... We had to buy a new motor for it and rebuild it . ( 5K MORE ) three weeks later the transmission went out.... It's on a Nissan Maxima it's one of those CVT transmissions. I called IMT , I was able to speak with Bob directly. that man worked magic the first conversation I had with them he had a brand new transmission there I would have been able to get it in and out but my son had to wait 2 weeks to be able to come up with the funds for the transmission . I called back down there and that transmission had already been sold Bob worked magic and had another one there in 3 days he had my son's vehicle in and out within half a week from that time . With IMT being honest , up front, no beating around the bush the warranty and their service is beyond phenomenal . he made sure that we came in for the checkup They didn't overprice or try to raise the price seeing a young man. my son being 20 years of age now he will continue to use intermountain transmission . I have four boys total and I guarantee you every one of them will use intermountain transmission they have not only locked in a customer for life My children will continue to use them !!! """hopefully not for a long time LOL""""but my grandchildren will use them. it's hard to find honesty these days and true American survice. with their shop located in the hart of SLC they are truly that needle in the haystack. I am not one to take my time and do a review but I honestly have to give these guys 5 stars. I could only try and return the favor and give five minutes of my time for this amazing company. Word of mouth is truly the best advertisement getting somebody's true opinion, feelings and thoughts. Brought my 4L60E transmission to Bob for a performance build after reading the reviews and talking to past clients. After a few months of my transmission being back, I lost 1 & 3 gear. Called up Bob, and he said take it back out bring it down. Seems like some Servos went out, frustrating since it was just down there. After about another 6 months transmission started slipping in 4th gear. Dropped the vehicle off and was told it was the converter, warranty would not be covered since it was not their converter. Totally understandable. Was told by Randy it would be 2600 to remove and replace with new one. I said get me the converter and I will do it myself since that was the only problem and the converter was $400. I then get a call back saying they misquoted me and it would only be $800, Ok do it I said. After several phone calls during the month that they had it I was told it was done, I go to pick it up and I see a bill for nearly $2800. There were many parts on the receipt that I was never informed about at any point in time, I even got the phone call from Randy that day I picked it up stating it would be 800 still, plus a starter since my starter went out. After arguing with Bob over the price and the lack of communication the bill was brought down to 1300. Two months and 300 miles later my Transmission is now stuck in 3rd gear only, oh and that starter that was bad was tested and was fine. I dont appreciate being lied to and trying to steal my money. I now need to fine another Transmission shop to fix his mistakes. read more

I bought a rebuilt transmission from them and had my mechanic install it. I brought it back to them for inspection and they made an adjustment and also test drove it. Two weeks later all the transmission fluid drains out on a road trip to Michigan! No warranteed shop in sight! I had to spend $400 and they warranteed $1000 so I was super disappointed they didn't cover the whole warranty. read more

I took my truck to the dealership because of some shifting issues. I knew that it was probably the transmission. After their diagnosis which cost nearly $100, they confirmed my suspicion and told me the cost of repair would be $7200! The truck is a work vehicle and has been dependable. I don't want to buy a new one but I certainly didn't want to buy a decent used vehicle in repair costs either! Through a recommendation from a friend at an auto body shop who does great quality work, I took the car to Intermountain Transmission. The staff is patient, kind and thorough. They quickly diagnosed the problem as not only a transmission failure but found that the radiator failed first causing fluid to enter the trans and damage the soft parts of the transmission. They rebuilt the trans and replaced the radiator for less than $3800! read more

I brought in my VW Golf, 5 days later I call them to see what's going on. 5 days to get a quote? They call me back a couple hours later and say the transmissions fine. 2 weeks go by and my transmission quits. I wouldn't waste my time going here. read more

Bought my daughter a car. With in 20 miles the check engine light came on. After a few other mechanics giving outrageous bids to troubleshoot the issue, I was referred here. Dropped off the car within two days they called me to let me know if was the transmission and that they had located one, the price, the expected time frame to have it fixes, etc. Their price less than half of the what the others were to start diagnostics. I was told they were the only ones who could work on a ZF transmission for a land rover Discovery II. They were recommended from another trusted shop that works on Rovers. I asked ITE to rebuild the transmission and they said it would be about a week. They said the same thing a week later. They hadn't even looked at the vehicle for two weeks. I only found that out when I went directly to the shop to see what was really going on. They ordered the correct parts a week later and then another week and a half after that, they had rebuilt the transmission, but only with me calling every week to see what was happening. All along the way, they wouldn't give me any possible invoices or projected costs. When they had the transmission finished, they said the transfer case was also damaged. They said they could do the work on it fairly quickly, though, and knew how to work on that transfer case. Against my better judgment, I had them do it. A week and a half later, they still hadn't opened it up because they didn't have the right parts and that it would take weeks to find and get the right parts. I found the parts within ten minutes online and had them overnighted from England for less than half of what ITE wanted to charge me. I even ordered parts that they hadn't mentioned that they might need. It was another week until they started work. A week and a half later, they had it finished. The transfer case still wouldn't work. They admitted they hadn't actually looked at the old transfer case parts to see what was wrong and didn't know what could be wrong, either. They wanted hundreds for parts to try another fix that may or may not work. At this point, I bought a used transfer case to have them put in and not touch the insides of. It worked. At this point it was months since I had dropped it off. They tried to bill me for rebuilding the transfer case twice and the transmission rebuild. They said it took so long because they had to wait on parts that I made them use. When I asked why they wanted me to pay for a rebuild that failed when they lied about knowing what they were doing, the manager became very defensive and started yelling at my wife to try to get me to agree with him. I've dealt with slimy shops, but none that tried business practices like these. Who yells at someone's spouse to force them to pay more for repairs they didn't do? I can never recommend anyone do any business with Intermountain Transmission Exchange. I'm wondering how long the transmission and transfer case will stay together. read more

Had them build a transmission for my 2001 dodge 2500 a little over a year ago. I told them exactly what I was doing with it pulling a 5500 lb camping trailer they suggested all the upgrades had them do it cost about 5000$ within the first 6 month transmission overheated took it in while under warranty they said rear speed sensor was bad they replace it 120$ later. Pulled trailer again overheated they took it in said batteries were bad the low voltage was causing transmission to over heat I replace them then happened again next they said replace battery cables did all these things wasted plenty of money and the issue still isn't fixed and now my 6 month warranty is over with out the issue being resolved I've put maybe 12000 miles on the transmission is all and every time I pull my fairly light 5500 lb trailer the transmission over heats. I will not recommend this company to anybody nor will I return. Worst 5 grand I've ever spent read more

I just took my car in for it's regular oil change and they informed me beforehand that they are extremely busy and it could take longer than usual. After about an hour wait they had me back on the road. I would rather wait a little extra and make sure the job gets done right then go to a repair shop that speeds through and screws up in the process. We have used Intermountain many times. They have solved the problems other can't every time!! My dodge had a bad vibration and after 3 weeks at the dealership I broke down and these guys new the front driveline was the problem. We had an Allison transmission problem and were told we needed a transmission by others and $400 later they had it fixed instead of a $4000 bill!! Total incompetence. Our repair man had to order a Xfer case from Bob (Intermountain). This was Thursday. Bob said it'll be there Monday/Tuesday..... Nope, not there. Oh wait, Bob had to order it from the manufacturer, it'll be a couple more days.... Nope, not there. Oh wait, Bob says the manufacturer has to build one, it'll be a few more days. Nope, not there. Oh wait, Bob says he found out it's been sitting on a loading dock in Denver for 3 days. Just a few more days and it'll be there...... Nope, not there. Bob promises it'll be there Monday at 8 am, .......Nope, not there, he can't seem to get hold of his driver. Bob says Tuesday for sure......Nope, not there. So, being just a tad bit frustrated, we decide to drive to Bob's and pick it up ourselves and drive it the 200 miles to our repair guy (long story). At Intermountain Bob has to remove the lid from the part box so it will fit into our trunk - remember this part....*.he took the lid off and looked right at the part as he put it in the trunk. Whew! the part is on it's way and we'll get it there in a couple of hours! We're about 100 miles into the trip when... Oh wait. The phone rings. It's Bob. Oops,* HE GAVE US THE WRONG PART!!!! After ripping him a new one, he graciously agreed to have his driver leave immediately to drive the 200 miles and deliver the correct part, meanwhile reminding us that he was "nice enough to call us and tell us it was the wrong part". He did follow thru and got the part to it's destination - by having his wife drive it down. So, one day short of 2 weeks we finally got our part.
