We called every roofer and contractor in the state to get quotes. We ended up going with Intermountain West Contractors for the following reasons: IWC was the only company to come out and actually speak with us about the process of getting a new roof, as well as our other options. Other companies came out and just discussed the quote but IWC spent the time to explain more about the roofing process than just what materials we'd be getting for the price. IWC was the only company that offered to match competitor pricing. After all the quotes were in, IWC wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but they did match the cheapest competitor that was using comparable materials. Even though this specific competitor was using a grade lower membrane, IWC still matched their price and used the higher grade membrane material. Now the real story begins. On the day of install, after getting into our roofing project, the roofers discovered the roof was far worse than expected and the entire roof needed to be redecked. I inspected the roof myself and there was no doubt that this additional work was required. This was an unexpected cost of a few thousand dollars. Gerald, the owner, called me directly to discuss what could be done about the unexpected cost. He gave the additional decking to me at cost, saving me about $800. Another unexpected problem was that while the roofers were up there, part of the ceiling inside our house fall down. Gerald had already told me that due to the severe damage to the roof, there was a possibility of the ceiling coming down and that he couldn't be held responsible for the damage but when this ceiling did fall, he said he would have a contractor come out and would give us a credit to get this small portion of ceiling fixed. As the work continued, Gerald called me again with a concern that the drywall on the ceiling could be knocked loose by gravel that fell in on top of it. He suggested we get out of the house just in case, and much to my surprise, offered to put us up in a hotel until we could get a handyman onsite to tack all the drywall back up. This was completely above and beyond what I expected of any roofing company. Gerald expressed genuine concern for our family and put his money where his mouth was. I hope I never have to reroof this house, but if I do I will be calling Gerald and Intermountain West Contractors again. They finished the entire job in a day and a half and the personal attention we got from Gerald was more than enough to win us over as a loyal customer. read more

Gerald and his crew at Intermountain West Contractors ripped down and completely replaced the badly damaged roof on the home of a neighbor. The community raised money to help this family replace their roof. I was overjoyed with my experience working with Intermountain West Contractors. This roof replacement was a neighborhood service project to help a needy family with an severely autistic child. I explained what we were doing to Gerald and without even knowing any details about the family, he jumped right on board and wanted to help us help them. He gave me an extremely low estimate, especially considering the quality of materials and workmanship they were providing. The original estimate was for $4,600 which got us a shingle with a 50 year warranty, 20 year labor warranty, and a much improved ridge line venting system. All done within a week of signing the contract. The day before the crew was scheduled to start working Gerald called to notify me that he'd talked the shingle supplier into giving us the shingles at half price (WOW!) and that the dumpster and disposal fees were going to be donated as well. I was overjoyed and amazed that these companies would give us such a huge price break on behalf a family they knew nothing about. The day they finished the project, it only took 2 days, Gerald called to let me know what the final cost would be. Only $3,200!! I was so excited because that meant that we'd have enough money left to put gutter and downspouts on the home, which it didn't have before. When I expressed my excitement about the gutters, Gerald informed me that he'd be taking care of that too!! What a kind and generous person running a company that does a great job. The roof looks beautiful, and the family was very happy with how quickly it was done and cleaned up. They were especially grateful for the care the crew took to ensure every nail and scrap of shingle were cleaned up. With a child who has the mentality of a 3 year old and no means of communicating when he gets hurt, it's extra important that any safety hazards are removed from his play area. I would, and already have, recommended Intermountain West Contractors to anyone who needs good quality work done by honest people at a fair price.This has been an amazing experience. read more

IWC was very prompt and helpful during the bidding process, and offered the best price by far. And overall I'm happy with the finished product -- the job was accomplished quickly and, it appears, competently. There were, however, a number of problems. The biggest was a snafu with scheduling, and from this I got the impression the actual crew and the IWC consultant I was working with were just not communicating. My job required coordination with an electrician, so I worked with my contact at IWC and we picked a date that worked for both companies. But then IWC's crew showed up on a different day, and just started tearing the old roof off (several days early, which was awesome, I suppose), prompting me to scramble to get my electrician there on a Saturday with no prior notice and the clock ticking. (They did, so big shout out to JP Electrical for being so awesome!!) This led to the electrician charging me more for the Saturday work. IWC offered to pay this overage, but then it took many months and lots of pestering to get IWC to actually honor this promise. There was also a snafu with the roof's City permit. Again, my IWC contact always said all the right things and, in the end, took care of the problem. But it took a lot of pestering from me, and eventually some leg-work of my own at the City, before it finally was settled, many months later. The IWC crew also did only a barely adequate job cleaning up after themselves, and they could have thought more critically about the hardware they used given the unique nature of my job (a few roofing screws penetrated into my ceiling, and are visible from inside the house). But they did happily come back several times after the job was done for some touch-up work, and overall the roof seems well-done. So, in the end, I'm pleased with my new roof (and especially the price I paid for it!), which is why I've settled on four stars despite the problems. But I got the impression IWC's crew was operating on their own wavelength with little regard for particular concerns -- they just wanted to get there and get the damn job done, and couldn't be bothered to care about anything else. So if your job requires anything special you'll have to be vigilant with IWC, but it will get done for an excellent price. read more

Just had my entire tar and gravel roof cleaned off and replaced with a membrane roof. I think it is called a TPO roof. The roof replacement was scheduled for today and the Dumpster showed up first thing in the morning. Shortly thereafter the crew arrived and began removing the old roof. They worked very quickly and did not seem to have much fall off the sides of the roof. (well before cleanup) Given the size of my roof and the poor condition it was in, I thought there was no way for them to finish in one day as they had promised, but in the end they did. As the tear off progressed throughout the morning, and as they found additional damage that was outside of the typical repair amounts in the contract, they would give me a call and status update on what needed to be done and what I could expect. This happened a couple of times. Needless to say, the roof was very bad, which I knew, but there had been enough long term leaks over the years, the pretty much the whole roof needed new wood on it for it to be sound and allow for the fasteners to hold the roof on without pulling out. This full deck replacement, was not expected in their timelines for replacing the roof, but they took it in stride and did a LOT of extra work during the day that I thought would just spill over to the next day. Even with this extra work, the entire crew worked very hard and quickly to complete the work today. They worked well into the evening (unexpected) to make sure the roof was completed before a potential rain shower tomorrow. The level of skill and professionalism of the crew is through the roof. (Pun intended) I would have them do any other job of mine in the future. On a different house, of course, since this roof is now perfect. read more

Excellent service. The IWC team showed up early to re-cover my roof with new shingles and worked hard even through light rain. They were very professional and always asked questions or came to me if there were concerns. They were very careful about our flower beds and plants and made sure to clean up the discarded scrap regularly to keep the job site safe and clear. It was unfortunate that it really started to downpour in the afternoon and they had to call it a day to keep everyone safe and protect our roof/attic. The next morning, skies were clear and they showed up right before 7am to prep and start right back into the job. The supervisor and workers were very courteous and polite and did outstanding and professional work. They were also clean, smoke-free and didn't yell or use inappropriate language. Always good as I have children around. I especially liked that they took the care to vacuum around the gutters and clean off the shingles as well as walk around the house perimeter several times to make sure everything was picked up and nothing was left behind. Even used a large magnet for those hard to find nails. The new roof looks awesome and brings much more value to the home. Warranty on the shingles is the best you can find and I'm glad I now won't have to go up on the roof every year to fix the old shingles that were always needing fixing after any high winds. These new Duration shingles and the extra nails in each will really last no matter what Mother Nature throws at us. Really happy with the team at Intermountain West Contractors. Outstanding experience! Called Intermountain West for a bid on replacing our 20 year old roof. Josh came out the next afternoon and walked the roof with me. Clearly knew his business, explained exactly what they would do and answered all my questions. Listened patiently to all my concerns and addressed them without hesitation or waffling. I had three bids for the job; Intermountain's was right in the middle, but I felt much more comfortable with them. Was willing to put everything he said right in the contract, no problem. He also offered to put a larger crew on the job so that it was done sooner. The crew showed up right on time. From the get-go they were respectful of our property. They put drop cloths everywhere. They cleaned the place up every night so we never felt like we were living in the middle of a construction zone. When I had a question during the work Josh addressed it immediately. When he bid the job he told me 3-1/2 days; they were done in 3-1/2 days. When they left you couldn't tell they had been there -- except that I now had brand new roof. Gerald, the owner, came out to inspect when the work was done; we were thrilled with the work but there were a couple little things he didn't like so he sent the crew back out to fix it. Wow! I've had a lot of work done over the years; I don't think I've ever had a contractor as responsive or a crew as hardworking and careful as these guys. What a FANTASTIC company! I WILL be recommending this company to all I can! I am an HOA Committee member for a complex of 16 Town homes in Pleasant Grove. We needed a new roof on all 3 of our buildings. Intermountain West Contractors came and did an accurate estimate. I had 3 other contractors come out and do estimates as well. No one was able to beat Intermountain West Contractors price and all the things included. They showed up on Wednesday morning and they were done by Friday afternoon! They took particular care to make sure all nails and staples were picked up from our parking lots, sidewalks and grass!!!! The Owners of Intermountain West Contractors Gerald and Josh were great to work with. I had wind damage on my roof which required a total over lay of new shingles. Josh came to my house to do the estimate. He was one of three estimates. he was the only one that truly came prepared. After coming off the roof he explained to me in detail the materials needed and showed me several options to choose from. And the cost right then and there. Their estimate came in between the other two but Intermountain West was defiantly the best value for the money. The roofing crew were great also. They are very experienced so you get the job done very quickly without sacrificing quality. They were in and out in four hours. That included putting down 22 squares of shingles, 72 feet of roof ridge venting. And painted all the vent pipes to match the shingles. Also cleaned up when they were done. I have had several projects done by this company, the owner Gerald Sommer is awesome. I had originally contracted with him to install a new roof on my garage after that nasty wind storm in the beginning of June blew it completely off. After dealing with his roofers and him I quickly contracted him to install new windows and then siding on my house and garage and then a new exterior door and storm doors. There have been small problems here and there with his workers but when I call him he has the problem corrected immediately. Each customer is different and what means nothing to one customer might mean the world to another, I am very picky and he has done his best to keep things the way I want them as a customer. Will I recommend him to my friends, family and co-workers? ABSOLUTELY! Looking forward to the finishing of all the projects and seeing the end results, so far so good. Out of all the contractors that bided on the job of replacing the roof on my home, Gerald Sommer of Intermountain West Contractors was the only one to actually climb to the roof, take measurements, and put a quote in writing, explaining to me exactly what was going to be done, how it was going to be done, and how long it would take. The other contractors simply walked around the parameter of the house and gave me an "about $$$" figure, and "should take about this long". Replacing a roof is a BIG expense and I wanted to know the cost and time frame, and no guesses or surprises about the cost or how long it will take. The job (complete tear off) was started on a Monday morning, The new shingles were installed on Tuesday. The crew did a great job. The clean up after the work was completed met my expectations. Gerald was quick in coming to our home to give us a quote and explain what he and his company had to offer. He was extremely friendly and personable. Sometimes sales people of any kind can seem pushy and, just plain "salesy". Gerald was nothing of the kind. He was willing to explain all aspects of the recommendations that he had for me and, although I am not a roofer, it all made very clear sense. Gerald obviously has the heart of a teacher. Another thing that impressed me was that his workers are full and part time employees of the company and not hired out contract workers picked up from who knows where. Intermountain West Contractors removed our 30 year old shake shingle roof, changed out a total of 25 boards, and replaced the old roof with the Owens-Corning Duration Shingles Roofing System. Everything turned out fantastic! We were lucky to get an amazing crew of hard working men, who were on that roof during the hottest day of the year so far! Over 100 degree temps! Let me tell you, those guys knew their stuff. And when I brought something to their attention that I thought needed to be fixed, they were right on it with no complaints and took care of everything. They cleaned up all around our home and we were very satisfied. We've found us a very professional contractor which isn't always easy to do nowadays. I'd recommend them to anyone who asks. I got a few quotes for my "leaking roof" from competing companies before calling IWC. When Gerald Sommer came, he was EARLY (all others forgot or were late), had done his research on my house before, and was very polite. The biggest shocker of all was that although my roof was not in great condition, that was NOT the cause of my leak--and he straight-up told me so. He could have--like all the other roofing companies--simply given his quote and not solved my problem. Because he has a wide variety of experience with building and repair houses, he both saw and solved my leakage problem with $50, not $5000. What an honest guy, since this is his bread and butter. I'm definitely using him to do my roof after I get the damage from our leak repaired. I'm amazed there are still honest people in the world. So glad I found one to trust my home with. read more

From the start, Gerald gave me a well-detailed estimate, explained all of the items for my project, answered all of my questions, and gave me a very fair price. His team, led by Rene, was on the job and finished in 1.5 days. The quality is excellent, and I am very pleased. They also did an excellent job cleaning up too! I would highly recommend this company! Just fair warning, it's noisy inside (kind of obvious) and they need to park a trash trailer in the driveway to dump the old roof parts into. Oh, and one last tip, if you have stuff (i.e. nicknacks) on your walls/shelves upstairs, you probably should move them so they don't fall off from all the banging. After multiple reviews we were wondering if we were even going to worry about redoing our roof this year or put it of for another year, however we had Intermountain West Contractors come and provide us a bid for our house and in came in quite a bit lower than the other bids. We checked around and found with their accreditation with OC that we could get the roof installed and still afford to get an extended warranty on the roof. After approving the project we received a call to schedule the date and a crew came to our house within the next two weeks. The crew was able to tear off, replace our roof, and clean our yard of any debris not caught by their tarps all in one day. As promised the estimate was lower than all the other places I had contacted. Within the following week I was scheduled for a re-roof. Gerald, the owner, and his crew were absolutely fantastic! My parents had a garage roof that was in really bad shape. I discussed with Gerald the problem and he came in person to check it out. He was very honest with his assessment! The job was made difficult due to weather, but he was so concerned with my roof that they were able to replace my entire roof and fix the problem within within 24 hours. These guys are amazing. We had multiple bids on our roof but Gerald was the only one to actually come in and sit down and thoroughly explain everything. It took us a bit to get going on the job, but that was mainly due to the weather. When they got going on the job, they had it done in 1 1/2 days. The workers were great to put up with me being picky. The materials used were of top quality and the roof looks awesome. When the job was complete Gerald came out personally to make sure the job was completed to our satisfaction. He even fielded multiple phone calls from us to clarify questions we had, after the roof was done. The men who worked on our roof were polite and professional. Tarps were put on the ground around the house to catch everything including nails, small pieces of wood and shingles, making the cleanup quick and easy. They removed two layers of cedar shingles, two layers of asphalt shingles and rotten wood. Then put on a new roof deck, ice and water shield, synthetic felt, asphalt shingles, fiberglass ridge cap, ridge vent attic ventalation, pipe flashing and re-sealed heating vents and chimneys. They did a super job cleaning up, the lawn looked as if nothing was thrown off the roof. The ugly leaky roof is now beautiful thanks to Intermountain West Contractors, West Jordan, UT, Gerald Sommer and Josh Moore. read more
