HORRIBLE. Long story short, I had to have my blood drawn 3 times for 1 test - 1st because Invitae didn't run all of the tests that my MD ordered and then again because Invitae lost my sample. Was assured by multiple people on the phone that I would not be billed more than once for this test but I am still getting texts, emails, and letters requesting money for the sample that they lost. read more

Invitae is a harmful dis-service. Submitted and paid for genetic testing, waited a long time to find out that they disbanded and stopped providing this test during the processing of my sample. Received an email saying "Testing for your order # could not be completed due to a failure during laboratory processing. We will be unable to repeat testing for your order and will also be unable to accept new # orders while we optimize customer experience, including improving turnaround times and significantly reducing the need for redraws. We apologize for this inconvenience." Who should I pay now to get access to MY HEALTH? This shows that Invitae's current check book science is harmful vaporware and should never be a trusted source for health and care. I won't use Invitae until there is Independent, Opensource and Verifiable medical science. Invitae is a prime example of how the openly corrupt for profit health services will never be care, but they are still allowed to operate unchecked and without consequences. read more

Beware of Invitae! My OB said their test would be inexpensive and Invitae started sending us bills for thousands of dollars almost a YEAR after the test was done. Now, 7 months and 10 phone calls later, they're reprocessing the bills and every time I call I get a different answer. I got a bill for $2,000, with a small note added that said it had been adjusted down to $100. When I called, the billing office said the $2,000 was a "mistake" and he officially adjusted the bill down to $100. Then I called back a week later and the bill had been put BACK at $2,000 and sent to my insurance without my permission. I asked them what would happen if I don't pay the bill (since the amount changes every time I call) and they said they would "attempt to collect." But even when I asked repeatedly, they wouldn't say whether they use a collections agency that will hurt my credit score. This company is extremely sketchy with its billing practices. I wish they could come up with a reasonable figure that I could pay and be done with them forever. We'll never test with them again. read more

DO NOT USE!!!!! Bait & Switch tactics. I was recently diagnosed with a Stage 1 cancer. My surgeon had someone in-house to draw my blood for this company. I was told that this company was (1) in network, & (2) my out-of-pocket costs would be $100.00. They told me that I did not any genetic markers for this type of cancer. Second, I received a bill for $5,500.00, AFTER my insurance paid. I blame the surgery for his lack of transparency. To have someone working in his office means he gets a cut of the profits. SCAM ALERT. ECHOING REVIEWS HERE! This company scams clients by telling them their out of pocket charge will be $100-$250. I gave them my insurance information under the pretense I would be told what my cost would be if it was accepted. They ran it through insurance without my permission. My insurance accepted it, and I received a bill for $2500 from Invitae. After countless fights over the phone and citing from their website that they MUST get permission via phone or email to process insurance, and that they did not, I was told not to worry about the $2500, but that I would still have to pay the $100, and that insurance would have to pay $3600. So a $100 quote became a $6000.00 bill! My husband accidentally deposited the cheque, or else my appeal with Empire Blue Cross would have had some ground. In essence I had to pay them the $3600 even though I was told I HAD THE CHOICE TO USE INSURANCE OR PAY OUT OF POCKET. Because I didn't want to go to court and spend even more time and energy on this I paid it. Had my husband not deposited the cheque I would have ripped it up and not paid them anything but the $100 I was quoted (which they removed incidentally after all the hassle). I am going to the BBB, and the Department of Financial Services in NY State to report them. STAY AWAY. read more

After reading other reviews, I am not sure how this company is still in business. I can echo what so many others have said and feel so helpless. BEWARE: If you're OBGYN partners with INVITAE, either switch providers or ask for their other option. My OBGYN informed me they have had several issues with INVITAE recently. After waiting 16 days for my NIPT results, my provider finally called INVITAE for an update...my sample was not testable! They never notified anyone - this is unethical and unacceptable. I could have started another round with a new blood draw. This company has serious matters on their hands (cancer screenings, genetic disorders, etc.) and there are ACTUAL HUMANS waiting on these results that their staff treats as insignificant matters. I did genetic testing to find out the gender of my baby. The pamphlets they have at the doctors offices advertise the testing is $99. However I received a bill for $569.29. I called customer service to see why it was significantly more than they said it would be. The agent told me that since it was run through insurance I'm responsible for the difference. They billed $2,000 to my insurance company and insurance only covered $1,450. The agent told me it's only $99 if it's not run through insurance. So basically this company is fine making $99 off the uninsured, but expect to make $2,000 if you are insured. This is why our medical system is so messed up. read more

It took months for my doctor to receive the report and at no point in time did they indicate in the report that there was a limit of 150 days to get my family tested after I tested positive for a genetic variant. Appallingly poor customer service. Impossible to get a hold of - even the doctor brought this up when I was requesting to switch testing companies. They do not have transparent pricing. Their website will state one price, but when you pay, it's a much higher price. If there was indeed a price increase, at least update your website... Also, a customer shouldn't need to call the phlebotomy lab that does the blood collection to confirm information because they could not get through to you. I've had to hold hours on the phone, send multiple emails and even try Instagram DM with no luck. I ordered the Invitae genetic testing: with sales tax $368. Paid with MasterCard. Received the test kit, used it, returned it, received results. Then began getting emails of a balance due of $368. Checked my MasterCard statement, all was paid. Later in mail received another "Balance Due" statement. What company in 2023 would mail a kit, process a kit, give results without payment in ADVANCE???? This company double bills, hoping for double payment from unsuspecting client. Invitae was a disaster! I ordered a test in May after my pregnant wife tested for a genetic condition as we wanted to see if I was also a carrier. When I ordered the test the timeframe was 2 weeks to receive the test. At the 2 week mark I rang them and they told me they had supply chain issues and couldn't give me an estimated time frame. I rang every week for 5 weeks to be told the same thing. On the last call, I was told I should have received a test in May but as I hadn't received it, they would send it overnight. It finally arrived 2 days later. The results took 2 weeks but then I received a bill for the testing after I prepaid for the kit. Apparently the test kit was prepaid but the test wasn't.... This place is a joke. If you need any medical tests done, I'd recommend you go anywhere else. read more

I felt super blessed to have insurance that would cover the very random genetic testing I needed done, but I should have done it like I was a cash patient. If you pay cash up front, the test is a flat $250. I went through insurance, and my insurance paid over $1000, but I still received a bill for $375. I called and asked and was told repeatedly I had to pay it. I couldn't get the $250 price. I kept pushing and was finally told they have income-based discounts. Based on my income, if I hadn't involved my insurance, I would have been able to pay NOTHING for the test. I'm sharing the discount information so future patients can make informed decisions about their medical care. I have repeatedly sent my test samples that were ordered by my physician to test me for a suspected dangerous, progressive genetic disorder and gotten nothing but trouble from this lab. They have repeatedly misplaced my doctor's orders, not sent my doctor all the paperwork required for tests I need, and have even misplaced my sample on five (yes, FIVE) separate occasions. This level of incompetence is shocking. Unfortunately, they are the only genetic testing lab we can find to detect the suspected genetic disorder that occurs in 1 in 1,000,000 people and my immediate family MUST be tested if my results come up positive. This corporation needs to have some serious investigation by whoever gave them their licensure to operate as a healthcare facility. Overnighting anything by FedEx alone is very expensive, let alone doing it five separate times because this company misplaces physician orders and submitted genetic testing samples on their overhead expenses, likely costing tbis corporation hundreds per patient whose testing is mishandled. For the love of all that is holy, NEVER USE THIS LAB!! How do we file a complaint against them with the Joint Comission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations? I went into a diagnostic center for a free mammogram, they suggested that I also get genetic screening. At no point was I told about the cost. Now it's been 3 months and I can't get my results. I have tried calling invatae and reno diagnostic center over and over again. I get different answers everytime I call. They also put me on a payment plan, but still continued getting harassing with letters and phone calls about my past due bill. This process should all be easier. My doctor sent two samples to Invitae, and they both took over 7 days to explain that the sample could not be read properly. The first time I figured the lab may have sent limited information, but the second time Invitae issued the error at almost 10 days after receiving my sample. It would've been nice to know a few days in if they were not able to provide results. read more

I had a very bad experience with Invitae. The provided me with incorrect insurance billing information and would not answer my questions even after several phone calls. Also, going through their customer service is excruciating. I have to wait for at least 30 minutes every time before I can speak to any person, who would never answer my questions in a straightforward manner. As all the other reviewers have said, this is a very shady billing process. I was told if I paid out of pocket it would be $100 for fetal genetic screening tests (1/21/2020). They still ran it through my insurance and it's somehow costing me $310.00. I called them and went to battle on it and they are unable to reverse applying it against my insurance. I certainly have the means to pay this bill but I refuse. That said, I did confirm THERE ARE NO LATE FEES AND THEY DO NOT EVER SEND TO COLLECTIONS. I confirmed this with several people at Invitae. I asked "So what would incentivize me to pay this bill then?" and they replied "There really isn't". So, I do not plan on paying this bill and I'm find throwing the bill I receive in trash each month. read more

Had genetic testing done by Invitae looking for colon cancer predisposition. They did an insurance estimate before the testing and told me the cost of the test would be $1,000 billed to my insurance. With my 20% Copay, my out of pocket would be $200. Or, I can pay cash up front $250. I don't have an accounting degree, but $200 out of pocket is better than $250 for me. Go ahead and run it through the insurance. Well, as others have said the cost submitted by Invitae to my insurance was $3,750. My insurance provided a $2,250 discount which leaves me on the hook for $1,500 since my deductible was not satisfied yet. E-mailed billing and never got a reply. E-mailed again nearly three months later after I keep getting bills and phone calls. Never a real person. Recording to call them at a particular number. I waited on hold for over an hour and no one picked up. Did this twice. Never again. I finally received an e-mail reply today. Invitae apologized for the delayed response and said they tried calling twice in August and they left voice mails. Tomorrow it will be MAY. Nine months to get a reply to an e-mail? In one of my e-mails I offered to send the up front cash payment of $250 to settle the bill. Invitae said they can't do that since it was already submitted to insurance. Don't claim to be a smart guy, but these guys if not FRAUDULENT, are certainly involved in DECEPTIVE business practices. I am currently researching if there is a regulating body either in my state or California (where Invitae is located) that can help me resolve this fiasco. Invitae claims the majority of people pay less than $100 out of pocket for the testing I had done. My out of pocket is $1,500. A 1,500% INCREASE OVER WHAT THE MAJORITY PAY SHOULD BE CRIMINAL. I sent in a test on 3/13, arrived at the lab 3/15. It has said 'sample received' up until TODAY, two weeks later. Two days ago I received a package in the mail from Invitae that was a saliva collection kit. I was never notified that I would be receiving this or that there was an issue with my previous (blood) sample. I tried to register the new test today since it finally arrived and it said it had already been registered, then I noticed that the previous test finally updated to 'lab processing'. This has been the most stressful process for me as I am awaiting results that concern MY HEALTH. I should have had the freaking results back at this point. My sister, who sent in her test a full week after me, will get her results before I do...I cannot even imagine how parents who are waiting on results for their babies feel....I'm just ready for this whole thing to be over. read more

I had my blood drawn on the 21st of September. Invitae received my sample that same day- and has been in the lab processing phase since. Finally after much frustration I contacted the company myself the evening of the 28th and was told that lab processing is backlogged. While thier website advertises without mention of backlog a TAT of 5-7 CALENDAR DAYS not business- it's now been 10 days + and my quad screen/ NIPT is still not back although the 42 genetic carrier test came back 4 days ago... I have called twice now the first time being the 28th requesting MY test results be released to me directly bc although the status bar reflected the "clinician review " phase my OB still hadn't gotten the results- and here's the thing it's MY medical information so they had no choice but to release the results to me. Now if you'll read back remember I explained that I called 2x- on the 28th when the CSR assured me I would have my results no later than the 30th and everything was A-OK just a little backed up (yah ok). Well yesterday I call again because don't tell me that my results will be moving to the next phase of this ridiculously overpriced and overrated companies process if its bologna! I finally get an HONEST and DILIGENT CSR on the phone after being in queue for over 35min like I have nothing better to do- and Tim picks up the line explaining its against policy to give someone a date and that the lab will complete processing on my quad screen as soon as possible but he'll try to figure it out and get back to me asap- which clearly at this point im thinking f-bombing rocket science and astro physics is apparently easier to perform without royally screwing stuff up. Tim takes my number contacted the lab staff and promptly called me back empathetic to my situation and APOLOGIZING for a mistake he had nothing to do with but did explain that not only was my NIPT mishandled and had to be redone but so was every other sample that came in with my batch for an invitae NIPT. AND THE MOTHER LOVING ICING ON THIS COLOSSAL SHIT CAKE: the real kicker?! The day I called on the 28th- is the day they had to start reprocessing not just my NIPT but a couple hundred... because someone was doing their job wrong. Typically I am not an asshole on yelp but for the love- I will never in my life have a test completed by this corporation again the TAT advertised on the website is false and apparently an ongoing problem they refuse to fix. My only suggestion if you discover yourself as frustrated as I am pregnant af, hormonal & feeling like you can't get a straight answer ask to speak to CSR Tim Furry- WHO IS THE SINGLE REDEEMING ENTITY/ QUALITY/ ASSET Invitae has. Beyond that now that my TAT clocks been reset by some moron who mishandled my sample presumably without consequence or any accountability I get to wait until October 7th before I can in good conscience pull a total Karen and figure out why I'm paying for shit that's not getting done. Poor customer service, no way to contact anyone who works for them, and inaccurate description on when you will receive any results. * Invitae received my blood draw sample and started processing it in the lab September 29th. It is now October 17th and I have no results and no update on when I will receive them. I called Friday October 14th and was told that I would have my results the following business day which would be Monday October 17th. I want to mention I waited over an hour to have a 3 minute conversation with a representative. I was told if I did not receive a update or my results by Monday morning to contact my physicians office. Well it is now Monday afternoon and I have no update and no results. My physicians office is unable to help me as it is out of their hands at this point. I called and spoke with another representative named Jenny and was told that my blood sample was insufficient as of yesterday Sunday October 16th. I was also told that I would have to have my blood redrawn again and that the booking for the appointment could be another week and then another week of waiting for the results. I was also denied a refund when asking due to the lack of communication on their part with my physicians office and how this has been handled. I was told there was no one I could speak to higher up, regarding this. And that I either had the option to get a new appointment for a new blood sample - that it would not be guaranteed that this wouldn't happen again. Or I could received a refund that would process at their next availability which could take up to 14 business days. Jenny - also provided me a extension number to her line to reference this conversation which once I was disconnected from the call abruptly. I attempted to call back and the extension was not valid. I am beyond infuriated at this point. I have waited over a month almost with no updates on my testing only to find out it's insufficient. I had NIPS done with Invitae in 2020 with timely results (processed within 3 days of receiving my sample, with my report being released to my provider and myself quickly thereafter). I decided to get NIPS done again this year, and the experience is much different than last time. Namely, it's been worse. Invitae received my sample 13 days ago, and it's been processing since. I've contacted their helpline twice. The first time, I was told it would take 10 calendar days for it to be processed. That has since passed. I contacted the helpline again today. When asked about the status of my order, as the dashboard still said my sample was being processed, the representative simply said a clinical update couldn't be provided unless to a licensed provider. She and I went around in circles a bit but essentially she kept repeating her script that she couldn't provide a clinical update and discuss results. I advised her that I wasn't looking to discuss the results but wanted to confirm whether my results have been provided to my provider. In short, no. No results have been given to my provider and my sample remains stuck in processing without having been provided with reasons why. I know 13 days doesn't seem long but this is in contrast with others that I have spoken to who received their results with a short turn-around time. Additionally, I am of advanced maternal age and would like timely results for either peace of mind or to determine next steps moving forward with either having to give new samples or with the pregnancy overall. To note, I'm in Canada and I elected to do Invitae (another side note: the cost has increased quite a bit, so it is not a cheap test). read more

I would give zero stars if i could. I had my first blood draw on 9/14/22 and waited 12 days before calling and received feedback from them that i need to call my provider. I told them that the status online says "lab processing". They provided no context to me and kept saying "call your provider". I called and of course my provider did not hear anything from them. The next day Invitae faxed them stating that i need a redraw. A few days later i came in AGAIN to do my redraw and they have now had my new sample since 9/30/22. Online status STILL says "lab processing". It's now 10/11/22 and i have yet to hear anything or know my results. This is now going on a month, i am almost 15 weeks along by now and still do not know the gender of my baby. I am BEYOND frustrated. I will be providing feedback to my provider in hopes they terminate this relationship. read more

Same as everyone else. I called to verify my privacy for my genetic testing after my concierge doctor submitted my blood samples. Invitae required direct payment so I wanted to verify use of my information. Instead I was left with cheesy pre-recorded offers for discounts, misleading pre-recordings to sounds like a customer service rep was on the other line with me and when I tried to opt out was disconnected. This went on after making several followup calls. If this is where their ethics start I can't imagine how information is used. I called my doctor and requested all blood samples sent back to the office. That is how much of a turn off I had with this experience. Anyone remember Theranos? My doctor put in my genetics testing with gender analysis in.. 7 days later I get the results (amazing turn around) --- only to realize they didn't even follow the initial order. Okay, mistakes happen. I called and they assured me, the correct report will release in 24-72 hours (awesome, sounds great)... fast forward 48 hours the test is only just ordered... I call and ask and they say "no the 24-72 hours was only for adding the test" [THAT THEY OVERLOOKED TO BEGIN WITH] --- K. We used Invitae for Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening and received results at 12 weeks of pregnancy. At 20 weeks of pregnancy, we found out that Invitae had sent us the results of a DIFFERENT PATIENT due to a sampling misidentification error. I sent my saliva sample off on April 22, 2022. Received a call on May 17, 2022 that there waa an alleged "leakage" of my sample. When I called Invitae, I was informed that the mouthpiece was left on the test tube," which is absolutely not true. My test tube was rightly sealed and fit into the compartment in the return box, which it would not have if the mouthpiece was still attached to the test tube. Si, where is MY test tube of saliva?!? The staff at Invitae did not listen when I kept stating that my test tube did not have the mouthpiece attached. They just kept offering to send a new test kit to me. Completely out of the question. Would not trust this company to test the urine of a dead fly. Again, where is MY DNA saliva sample?!? read more
