10/7/23 We were…read moreassigned a site in the "G" pinwheel. Very spacious between sites, with tons of grass and trees. Concrete pads. Good hook ups. Very very nice, especially since it rained a couple days. Didn't have to deal with mud. Most of the park is beautifully landscaped. It must take a small army to keep it looking so good. There are three friendly, absolutely gorgeous horses near the park entrance. We asked the owner if they like apples and carrots. He kind of smiled and said he didn't know if they would, but that they like peppermint! We tried to go the apple & carrot route, but had no takers. Didn't try anything peppermint. There's a huge pond with fountains on the property. It's quite nice. One of our neighbors trotted off with his rod and reel one day. Don't know if he had any luck. The larger community building has three toilet stalls and three private showers. Two of the showers are small. The larger (for the mobility challenged??) has no hand rails but the larger toilet stall does. The sink area has an outlet on each side, but there's no place to hang your jacket while you wash your hands. Very inconvenient. There is a shuffleboard table, pool table and two video games, as well as a tv. The laundry room has 4 washers and 4 dryers. There's a nice big room with a sweet kitchen for private parties, as well as a lounge area. Someone used it for a Sweet 16 party during our stay. There are no fire rings or picnic tables at any of the sites, and there was no easy route to the community building from our area. We either had to haul all of our laundry gear using the streets, or take the truck. Cutting across someone's site would have been rude but much faster and easier. There is an overflow parking area for guests with more than one vehicle next to the "G" pinwheel. I wish some of the people who were in our pinwheel would have used it, as they parked their extra vehicles so they were partially in the driving lane. One pickup was parked nose-in to the site, but the back of the truck was so far into the driving lane it was hard to get past it. Bad form. The park is close to all the stores and restaurants in Altoona. It's a good location, and it really is a nice place at a decent price. I would definitely recommend it to anyone coming to this area.

We really enjoyed the gazebo and pond, but were a little put off by the $35/day extra charge to use the kitchen. We were very disappointed when we found out the hot tub wasn't working which I mentioned to the owner multiple times. When I asked about a discount, the owner told me "No, I can't. That is out of my hands." I don't whose hands a decision like that should be in if not the owners. The bed and breakfast served it purpose as a place to relax after our wedding but is not someplace we would go to again.

The rooms are spacious and charming; the fridge and pantry are generously well-stocked; the living room and game room are large and make the stay unique and special. It is a mansion home away from home. Across the street is a three mile hilly woodland trail (behind the Art Museum and rose garden). The neighborhood us safe and beautiful. Highly recommend for both business and leisure travel. Seven large bedrooms can accommodate a group. Please note: The only negative reviews that keep this from being five star was many years ago under prior owners. I was here at that time and had a very positive experience during my stay, though the family/owners were dealing with very difficult health challenges. The atmosphere in the home is five star now.

One of the trailheads is right down the hill and we biked downtown to the Des Moines Farmers Market and beyond and got an easy 20 mile ride in on beautiful trails. The room was well decorated and so clean that we were convinced we were the first to stay in the rooms. Upon talking to the owner we learned that she just loves what she does. There were also some sweet touches like Odwalla juices and popcorn and a yummy breakfast. I highly recommend this place for couples, friends or anyone looking to stay in a sweet charming town....especially if you are a Bridges of Madison County fan.

We stayed in rooms #3 and #4. Loved the decor in both rooms and it was nice to have a small kitchenette in each room as well. Breakfast was excellent during our stay and delivered promptly to our room. They had treats for snacking as well as a refrigerator filled with a variety of drinks. The hospitality was outstanding. Winterset is the town where the movie "The Bridges of Madison County" with Meryl Strep and Clint Eastwood was filmed. The B and B was also in the movie as the motel where Francesca's children stayed when they come back for her funeral. Neat experience to stay there as we are big fans of the movie. Also, Winterset is the birthplace of John Wayne and a nice museum is also in town honoring him and his acting achievements. Thanks to our excellent hosts, Justin and Johna for a wonderful stay!

I recently attended a wedding at Bella's Farmhouse and unfortunately came away disappointed by…read moreseveral aspects of the guest experience. First, the outdoor grounds appeared poorly maintained. The grass was extremely long throughout much of the property, which felt surprising for a venue that markets itself as a premium wedding destination and made navigating the outdoor areas less comfortable for guests. During the ceremony, the microphone repeatedly malfunctioned, making it difficult to hear the officiant and portions of the vows. This was especially disappointing during one of the most important moments of the day. The technology and connectivity issues continued throughout the event. There was little to no cell service inside the venue, and Wi-Fi access was either unavailable or insufficient for the needs of the event. The DJ experienced ongoing connectivity problems that caused music interruptions during the reception, which impacted the overall atmosphere and flow of the evening. The pricing at the bar was also difficult to justify. Guests were charged $8 per glass for what appeared to be a very small pour (roughly a quarter glass) of Josh wine. While I understand venues need to make a profit, the value simply did not align with the price being charged. The wedding itself was beautiful because of the couple and their efforts, but the venue's maintenance, audio equipment, connectivity, and beverage pricing left much to be desired. I hope management addresses these issues, as they significantly affected the guest experience.

The second night we actually called the front desk to ask them to help but the noise never stopped. Just a thought if your putting a team of 8 year old football players in a room maybe don't put them on a top floor. On the last night of our stay we return to our hotel around 10 and our key did not work. We went to the front desk to resolve and the night attendant was about as friendly as a wet raccoon locked out of its dumpster house. Don't remember her name but pink hair and started with a K- real peach of a lady. Instead of listening to the issue she insisted we were in a different room sending us upstairs to an empty room even though we had the envelope with the room number on it- we entertained the nonsense and sure enough she sent us to the wrong room forcing us to go back down to explain again to find out that we were correct all along. After almost 30 mins we finally were given a working key to our correct room. To top off the experience, when we get back up to the room it smells like hot diarrhea- not saying this for effect. It actually smells like straight ass and onions in here. We could go back and battle it out with the snippy front desk lady again but doubt she will be helpful at this point. 100% do not recommend this hotel, we've been loyal Hilton Honors members for years and this was enough to make me switch to another brand.

One of the best Garden Inn's I've stayed in in a long time. Parking is free and plentiful. And there is a nice steak house attached to the hotel. Also there is a free airport shuttle. You just have to call the hotel to request them to come pick you up from the airport. The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the airport. For an airport location Garden Inn, this is as good as it's gonna get. Reserve your room now, you'll be pleased.
