Once at my appointment, the wait was very short (began as scheduled, and maybe a minute or two early as I arrived ahead of schedule. The person who assisted me with my license renewal was friendly, professional, and addressed all of my questions politely. Really, I couldn't ask for a better experience. A far cry from the onerous task a visit to the D.O.T. had been back in the day. Great job Iowa D.O.T.!

I went to get my real ID. I registered online a month or so…read morein advance. Easy online walk through. Told me everything I needed to bring for the update. I was scheduled my time and had reminder emails on what to bring, and to wear a mask. I arrived a little head of time. Used my email notification to log in, and get my number in line. They were spacing out seating and wiping down seats as people rotated through. Their staff was limited which made things slower but I anticipated the wait. They did not take walk ins. They turned away a few people letting them know online register is required. I waited about 25 min after my scheduled appointment. Provided everything that was requested in the initial emails, got my picture taken, and had no hassles. There was a couple people who did not have the proper documentation on their first trip, but I over heard the employees informing each other that they would allow that person back and would get them back in if they brought the information back that day. The gentleman who helped me was pleasant even though you could tell everyone in the office was stressed that day. I joked with the gentleman who helped me and hopefully left him in better spirits. I did receive my new real ID in the mail in a timely manner so everything turned out good!
