Excellent customer service. Took a couple of visits, but finally after a new card, double screens for two systems worked. I will use again

Competent But Off-Putting…read more I contacted SmartHelp for assistance with two specific tasks: to connect a new monitor and a new printer to my older desktop computer. Todd, from SmartHelp, does know his stuff, he is competent and took care of both of my asks. However, I found that Todd asked questions that I felt were not necessary. In addition I found his personal style and certain, what can only be described as business practices, too personal and thus off-putting. 1) As part of the job, Todd's first request was to input my personal information into his phone. I specifically found the requests for both my date of birth & my photo quite worrisome and unnecessary. 2) I found Todd's style of "up-selling" quite disconcerting. For example he said he wanted to take my laptop computer to his home to "set up properly." This, of course, would have presumably incurred a myriad of additional charges, none of which were discussed. He asked to take the laptop multiple times despite my repeated no's. 3) Without my permission Todd input my credit card information into his phone while I was out of the room! Unacceptable! In the end it felt to me that, beyond the requested tasks that were accomplished, I was also charged for his requests for my personal information, as well the time spent "up-selling." I found and consider these things to specifically be poor business practices. Be aware and be wary and further be prepared to say "no," i.e. don't let your guard down!

Todd took complete advantage of my wife and I. We wanted to extract photo files from the iPhone…read moreowned by our recently deceased son. He assured us that if anyone could extract photo files from our son's passcode-locked iPhone, he was the guy. It was clear, from the moment he started trying, that he was clueless. He started by asking us to give him some passcodes to try. This was a totally random approach, and I should have stopped the session right there since my wife and I had no idea what our son's passcode might be. When it was clear that this crazy approach was going down a hopeless rabbit trail, he switched to calling Apple customer service for help. After Todd spent maybe an hour on the phone with Apple customer service with little or nothing to show for it and with no further options available to us at the time, we parted company. But Todd inexplicably claimed we had made "progress" when we hadn't. And he was happy to take our money for the supposed two hours of "services" that he claimed he had provided. Needless to say, we never contacted Todd again. But hopefully we learned our lesson. We'll be more careful with the next consultant we might choose to work with.
