Excellent customer service. Took a couple of visits, but finally after a new card, double screens for two systems worked. I will use again

He asked how I heard about him and I told him Yelp. I asked how long of a drive it was from my location to Eagle Point and he said it would be about 45 mins. When I pulled into his driveway he called and told me he had opened a store at Rogue Valley Mall and that he was actually there (meaning I had driven 25 minutes further than I needed to). I drove the 25 minutes back the way I had come to Medford and went to the mall to Smart Help where he now works. I let him know I didn't want to spend too much money and he asked what my budget was. I asked him how much transferring documents and giving me a quick rundown of the new Mac would be. He quoted me $200 to update my old MacBook, $150 for the external hard drive that I told him I was not in the market for, $150 for transferring my documents, $100 for wiping my old MacBook and $100 for a "recorded dock tutorial." In total Todd tried to tell me it would cost me $700 to get documents off my old laptop onto my new one "the right way." I called around and got 2 quotes for what I want at $40 and $45. I dug around in the reviews that are not recommended and others seem to think he is a scam artist. Needless to say I left his store after having wasted time but thankfully not money.

I spent thousands before I figured out everything wasn't precisely as Todd portrayed it. If you are going to work with Todd be sure YOU know what you want; he's quite a salesman. He is dazzled by all the bells & whistles that Apple provides. He truly loves their products. AND he tends to oversell in a way that my husband and I consider deceptive. In my case, I am moderately technical. I view my Apple products as business tools. I needed Todd to focus on setting up very simple systems for me to run my two businesses. It was hard to keep him focused on teaching me the basic things I needed to know. Finally I went with Ronald Gehrmann, a CERTIFIED Apple Support Consultant (which Todd is not; check Apple's website for yourself) who greatly simplified the set-up and the processes Todd had given me. The steps went down from 10, for example, to 2 or 3 to get the same result. Now that is exactly what I want: Simplicity that leads to results.

I've been driving by this shop for 5 years, and was always intrigued by it, thinking I'd stop in some day and consider the options for a back up PC. I live in a rural area, miles away from anyone I would trust for this matter, so having a back up makes sense. Anyway, I finally got around to stopping in because my current laptop runs on Windows 7 and that is incompatible with Turbotax. I sure as heck wasn't going to *pay* a tax preparer to do my 5 minute return, So I needed a Windows 10 or later OS. I explained the situation to Rob, the owner, and he listened patiently, and then took the time to explain why my apprehension about updating my old laptop from Windows 7 was justified. I left 15 minutes later with a reconditioned small tower. It was $169, out the door, and is more than fast enough and capable for my needs. It's also really quiet. The cats seem to like the subtle hum it emanates. FYI, I have multiple displays and other peripheral equipment and thus only needed a computer. (It's amazing what you can get at estate sales...) Rob was also kind enough to install and ensure the operation of the tax software, gratis. I don't know if they normally charge for that but he recognized that given that I live multiple hours away and only come into Medford occasionally, it was doubly important to me that the install worked. I recommend this shop to anyone wanting to be able to articulate their computing needs and get them met promptly and $ efficiently. No sales pressure, either. For what it's worth, it's also nice to see electronic equipment being recycled/reutilized. This place is like a good auto mechanic's shop. Nice to know it exists and an ace in your back pocket.
