The Iran Restaurant in Mayfair, London was the perfect way to end our trip. I imagine this is how an authentic dining experience in Iran actually feels like! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but I highly recommend sitting outside even in the winter. They have outdoor heaters that keep you warm, and you can people-watch on either side of the restaurant. There were some people smoking hookah over tea, and others enjoying a delicious meal. You have to try the Persian tea - it's amazing! We loved it so much that we ordered a few rounds. Since I've been back in the states, I've been searching for this Persian tea everywhere, but I can't find it. If the owner or their social media manager sees this, please let me know where I can buy it. I need it! Also, we ordered the chicken kabob. It was a delicious shareable portion of food that came with rice and a fresh salad. We made room for dessert because I couldn't leave without trying their Persian falooda. It was incredible - a refreshing, icy dessert decorated with pomegranate and rose syrup. We considered this a very affordable meal, especially for the quality of food that you get. Three years later and I sat down at Iran Restaurant, looked at the menu, and thought "Wow, I don't remember it being this expensive". There's a reason for that: it wasn't. With its aloof-bordering-on-rude service and a host of other nearby places serving essentially the same fare for less my 2022 visit to Iran Restaurant will likely be my last. The charming Shepherd Market location can't make up for the fact that almost everything on the menu here is now priced at £40 and though the Fesenjan ( £35; chicken in a walnut and pomegranate sauce) was excellent, the Kebab Koobdeh (£35) still has the little unappealing bits of gristle that it did 3 years ago. Into a UK inflation calculator I input the cost of that Koobideh in 2019 as recorded in my earlier review. Accounting for inflation, that same dish should cost £20 today so the £35 now being charged is really quite a leap. Next time in this area I will eat at one of the other nearby places serving this fare. They're both better and more reasonably priced. read more

A beautiful experience that took me to the motherland. The place is quite small but intimate and welcoming. The food was bursting with flavor. We got chicken with and without bone, but so juicy and well cooked, beef and minced lamb with a side of salad shirazi and masteh mooseer. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the salad shirizi which lacked any seasoning, but it was fairly easy to mix with a ton of lemon some olive oil and copious amounts of salt and pepper. Been here twice. Second time by accident. This place does not live up to the positive reviews. Food average to below average. Lamb is very gamey. Tabuleh surprisingly thr worst unseasoned tabuleh I ever had. No mezze platter. You have to order relatively big dishes. Service and location are good. Won't be back. read more

Oh my god. Is food just better in London? The food here is amazing and the service is fantastic. The owner is super nice and welcoming. I highly recommend the chicken and lamb kebab. It was so delicious and well-flavored. Probably some of the best kebabs I've ever had. And based on the other reviews, the food here is really authentic. And the portions are huge (like Texas-sized portions) so make sure to come here hungry! There are some outdoor seating options and some indoor seating as well. My starter was great, a roasted aubergine dish. Large portion, unique flavours. I had the mixed grill as a main and was slightly disappointed. Large portion but nothing bursting of flavour. Wow!! This place was amazing. It is very authentic! The food portion is huge, the staff is amazing! Roya was super nice and helpful, and the food is absolutely delicious. When we first walked over, Iran restaurant was full of people. It was very busy but they still accommodated us and found us a table for 3. Everyone was so kind and kept coming over to say hello and make conversation. When our food came out, it all looked so delicious and such big portions! The food was delicious. This place was decent. However a few things detracted from it. First, we were seated outside which was lovely. There was a heater on and it kept us warm even on a cold night. The service was a bit on the slow side and it took about 15 min to get a glass of wine. We ordered an eggplant appetizer which was delicious. We also ordered the mixed grill plate and shared that along with the spinach dish. The spinach dish was a bit on the sweeter side and I didn't really care for it. When our server came to clear the table he said he would remove it since we didn't eat it. I insisted he let us pay for it since we ordered it and he wouldn't hear of it. Here's what wasn't awesome. The table next to us was recording a video of a homeless guy singing a song and they started making fun of him. And several beggars bothered us throughout dinner. At the end of the night, one woman came to our table and wouldn't leave us alone. She put her hands on my shoulder and wouldn't leave after several times of us telling her we didn't have any cash. If you eat here, make a reservation and make sure you sit inside. The restaurant can't help it how the homeless people act or how their customers act which is why I didn't give them three stars. read more

I was in London and I have heard and knew London had a pretty diverse food scene and I have been to a few Iranian restaurants before. So I decided to give this restaurant a try. It was good, but I have to say it was not the best Iranian food I have had in London. As I was leaving the owner of the restaurant asked me to write a google review of this place. I can see why they have so many reviews now... I went in on a Sunday night and the place was pretty empty. I originally did a very common greeting of Salaam to the host and he looked at me funny and told me he does not speak Persian. I found this interesting that someone at a authentic Persian restaurant does not speak basic Persian, but okay. I was seated inside as it was pretty cold out the day I was their. The first item I saw was the oven where they make the Lavash Bread. It was radiating heat and I knew I had to get some. I decided to order an appetizer. I ordered the Halim Bademjon. It was really really good! It was Cooked aubergine (egg plant) mixed with traditional dry yogurt, fried onion, mint and olive oil. It was really good and it was a great first course. It was not a huge plate, but would be good to share with 1 or 2 people. For my main course I had Khorest Ghameh Badenjan. This was good but not great. It was a stew with diced lamb, Aubergine (egg plant), yellow split peas, and dried lime. It was a mix of savory and sour. My biggest issue and I let the owner know is that it only had maybe 2 small pieces of lamb in it. It was really sour certain bites of it and thats because of the lime. I also noticed a few pieces of the egg plant still had the outer layer on it. When you leave the skin of the egg plant on it, the dish becomes very bitter. I did not like it very much. Overall it was a really good meal. I would for sure try this place out again. Was it 5 stars no, but it was more like 4.5. read more

I have visited this place 10 years ago with my Iranian friend which was good memory for me. This time i got a chance to spend vacation in London and went with my family. My child, 13yrs old boy, liked it so much especially the grilled ground meat. It is quite good for me that i was able to share the long time memory with my family. People were super kind and always checked everything was okay. I saw a guy eating Iranian kebob and it seemed very delicious as well. If you look for good Persian food near green park, this place would be good choice. One thing i would like to criticize is sanitation of bathroom. It seems not very clean enough and light was too dark in there. Improving that part would make this place greater. But still, this is one of very good places in London for me. read more

As an Iranian, I do NOT understand the hype here and would more accurately rate this as 2.5 stars. If you can't get seated upstairs or outside, fogettaboutit. Pros: - Food is very good, well-portioned, and indeed, authentic-tasting. - Service is great! Had the older gentleman with the gray hair and he was quite kind and attentive. Cons: - The upper floor is OK, but incredibly cramped. That doesn't compare to the lower floor (really, a basement), which is badly in need of a renovation and a few changes. For one, the lower floor restroom needs an auto-shutting hinge. If you happen to be sitting anywhere on that floor and a patron uses the restroom without closing the door, you get to hear all that action. The walls could also use a paint job and some decor, and perhaps hiding the rat traps out of sight. All could be forgiven if it wasn't for the pricing, but on that note... - Pricing is ABSURD. ~$120 USD for two kabob entrees, two decently-poured drinks, and tip? Even for a nice area, this is absolutely ridiculous. read more

I enjoyed my meal at Iran Restaurant! They had a nice affordable red wine (Shiraz) that went very well with the meal and they had the full range of Iranian starters and mains. As we were mainly vegetarian, we had an eggplant appetiser (#13 on the menu) as well as the spinach yogurt dish (#12) but the latter was mostly yogurt and not much spinach which wasn't what we were expecting. Our appetisers came with a lovely fresh baked flat bread. Our mains were mainly impressive, aside from the fesenjan which was oddly very sweet and not what we were expecting. The gormeh sabzi was wonderful and the rice with broad beans and dill were also really great. The tea at the end was the icing on the cake. I'd never had Persian food before, so had NO idea what to order. Luckily a kind gentleman at the table next to me happened to run the place and ordered for me. In Iranian. Yep, this place is the real deal. The starter was a freshly baked flat bread with two dipping sauces - one yogurt/spinach/garlic sauce and one bean-tomato sauce. I mentioned that I like spicy food, but the gentleman said that other cuisines use spice to cover up the flavor, and he was right. There was SOOO much flavor in everything I tried, and none of it spicy. The flavors were deep and complex and totally incomparable to Indian or Moroccan or anything else I've tried. The main course was a lamb "stew" in a coriander sauce. A surprising kick were dried lemons re-softened by simmering in the sauce. They added a bright citrus flavor and just melted in my mouth. The gentleman gave me a piece of his grilled lamb to try, and it was also amazing - and this is coming from someone who doesn't especially like lamb. The service was wonderful, the experience of just trying whatever was recommended to me was unforgettable, and the "discovery" of a new-to-me cuisine was enlightening. There's a reason this place is routinely named among the best Persian restaurants in London, and I know I'll be telling all my friends about it. read more

Love how this small but quaint restaurant is tucked away in an alley away from the busy Piccadilly street in London. Iran Restaurant... that's clear! A bit hard to find but that was part of the fun! It was actually located next to other small other pubs and restaurants off the hustle and bustle of the tourists' grid. The fresh nan bread was on the house... delish!!!!!! ...and it came with hummus that did not disappoint. Service was excellent and didn't have to wait too long before my order was served. The food here is so, SO good. The bread is awesome, anything lamb is a win, and while the service is a bit slow, our waiter was excellent. I would have given 5 stars but there was a bit of a kerfuffle upon arriving, even after making a reservation. We were given a table outside which I wasn't too pleased about but fortunately there was very little cigarette smoking outside which made the dinner a pleasure. I am visiting from Vancouver, Washington USA and every city I go, I will try their Persian/Iranian kabab. This restaurant had everything you need, cute atmosphere, great host and waiter and on top of it all I ordered Makhsos dish(Soltani) which is barg and kobideh together(or chicken) and it was one of the best I had in a long time. Very friendly staff. The food was underwhelming. The lamb kebab was ok. Don't expect the yellow color on the rice to be saffron. The fesenjan stew can do with less sugar and a bit more pomegranate and walnuts. All in all, it was a good experience. read more
