Fantastic wine classes and a great collection of Irish gifts. We stopped in on a recent visit to Scranton and were delighted that we had.

The Holiday House Scranton - Can't miss it!

Not just another light display. I LOVE stories like this and I just HAD to share!!…read more This "holiday house" which also has a drive thru-aspect, including a live nativity with rabbits, a sheep, ducks, a goat and geese has been one of our Christmas Eve family traditions for almost a decade now. It was only until recently we found out the story behind the home and that one of our beloved yuletide traditions is the same for a recorded 12,000 other people in the region including buses and vans with residents from local seniors homes, handicapped and terminally ill children also. Tom Culkin (no relation to Macaulay, I believe... but kind of ironic, don't you think?) is the owner of the home. He is now 66 years old and a former city police detective. He began decorating his house for Christmas 37 years ago when his daughters were just little girls. He received tremendous response from neighbors, friends and family, he decided to make it an annual event. The house is decorated with the latest popular children's characters drawn by local artist Jeff D'Angelo. Each year they add a new one to the display! Expect to also see Minions from "Despicable Me" and Sully and Mike from "Monsters, Inc."Ariel and Snow White, as well as Dora the Explorer, Bear in the Big Blue House, the Grinch, Woody and Buzz Lightyear from "Toy Story," the Wiggles, Nemo, Lady and the Tramp, Anna, Elsa and Olaf, Star Wars,Jack Skeleton and more! Don't miss Santa with his list and check if your name is on there! There is no donation box despite the high electric bill the display creates, and when asked about it the response was "It's the Culkin family present to everyone". Love this! I have personally never seen him, but as Dec. 25 rolls around a family friend dresses as Santa Claus and stands outside as part of the display on various nights handing out more than 3,000 candy canes and makes sure to have a word with each child. We combine a drive here (with at least two loops around) with the house down on Orchard St, a drive through Nay Aug Park and a free presentation of The Nutcracker at Marywood. This has been our traditional Christmas "tour" of Scranton and we just LOVE it!! Year after year.

I've lived in the city of Scranton since 2018 and I find it very enjoyable to live if you live in…read morethe right section of the city . I however have to question the safety of the citizens because on March 1st of 2025 I was at the MARTZ bus terminal at around 4:30 in the morning waiting for a bus . The bus terminal was closed and there was no security around to protect someone waiting for the bus . Shortly after waiting a man approached me and attempted to physically assault me I however found myself getting out of that situation but he continued to hover and stalk. I called the Scranton PD and they responded within 5 minutes which was awesome . When I contacted the bus terminal Administration the following Wednesday I was told the reason why they kept the bus terminal close was to save money . They were very Unapologetic they were more concerned about saving money than my life . I have since contacted mayor's office waiting for a return call which I don't hold out very much hope because they've been back and forth with me on this . I wanted to get my story out on the media they won't touch it but if somebody got killed they'd be all over it . My advice is not to go to the bus terminal and wait for a bus because you are totally unprotected unless you're lucky enough to have the police nearby .

It's one of my favourite cities in the country, partly because my concerts here have been absolutely spectacular and partly because they have one of my favourite pizza places and hot dog places in the country. Maroni's for dirt cheap amazing slices, and Coney Island of Scranton for a White Hot with everything. Brilliantly original name right? Coney Island. Yeah because that's related to Scranton. Settle down Detroit. Also it's one of those beautiful old haunted towns that is stuck in the past which is very peculiar to this part of Pennsylvania. Scranton is probably the defining one for me even more than Harrisburg and Allentown because it just has more significance in my life. It's absolutely beautiful and very underrated, situated in a valley with massive hills which are basically mountains all around, and gorgeous views by day or night. Yes it is now sparsely-populated and old and Industrial but it also has a low cost of living and believe me this town is nothing like The Office television show. Now I want you in every one of my Offices. Or... not. Or something else? Or offices.

We arrived right at 4:00 p.m. on a Friday as they were opening, and everything from the service to the food exceeded our expectations. Our server, Michelle, was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made excellent recommendations. They had several daily specials that all sounded amazing. We started with the cheese fries, which instantly brought back nostalgic memories, they were simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious. For our meals, my husband ordered the Crispy Chicken Salad, topped with two large hand-breaded chicken tenders tossed in mild sauce with blue cheese dressing. My daughter loved her 6-cut Red Pizza, which arrived perfectly crispy and full of flavor. I ordered the wings, fried to perfection and served with mild sauce and blue cheese. On Michelle's recommendation, my son went with the Breakfast Burger, and wow! It was enormous and incredibly juicy. Every bite was outstanding. If you're anywhere near the area, do not sleep on this place! Their slogan says "Almost Famous," but I honestly don't think they'll be "almost" for much longer. Get here before everyone else discovers this hidden gem, you'll be glad you did!
