Ive been going to Irish Eyes for years, and now I can't go as much because of school and work, but still always feel very welcome and at home when I go back. This place is always full of DePaul kids trying to get wasted on college priced beer. There is a jukebox with wide selection and the bar will order pizza for delivery if you want food, but there is no working kitchen. Saturdays has live bands and there is always a dartboard and Golden Tee if you are looking for games. Beware, the line for the dartboard is too far away! read more

Overall, not a bad little bar. I recently started going here again after an extreme hiatus and it was very refreshing to know some things never change. Decent beer prices. It actually seemed as though it might be an Irish bar and lo and behold, as I walk in there is a older gentleman singing some Irish ditties. On spying two bachelorette's in the audience, he then proceeded to sing My Fair Lady's "Get Me To The Church On Time" and he also sang American Pie, to which most of the bar sang along. The bartenders are cool, the open mic comedy and live music nights are a lot of fun, and the owner likes to come in earlier in the evening and give the room some charm. Good 'ol Irish Eyes! This is one of those bars that you hate to love and love to hate. The clientele is shady at best, mixed with college kids, underage-rs and weird old men. When I used to frequent Irish Eyes back in the day, I could always count on seeing some boobies and someone throwing up in the bathroom. Boobies are great, but the throw-up is questionable. I guess that could be a good sign of an Irish hole in the wall...not sure. The bartenders were always nice, and the live music is pretty cool. I remember Whitey O'Day rockin the beats, and the owner Jerry O'Connell would grab his guitar and get up there. The atmosphere is on-point on Thurs, Fri, Sat nights...but if you try going there anytime before 10PM, the place is dead. It's almost borderline depressing! I participated in the guest bar tending a few times, which actually got me a part-time gig there until I got fired for drinking too much and not charging people for their drinks... A group of friends and I attempted to grace Irish Eyes and were rudely denied service by the bartender because he did not believe we had legitimate identification. Our state driver's licenses are from a distant state, and he was unable to recognize their validity... Far from asking for alternative forms of identification or even taking a few minutes to check the ID against accepted images, he repeated that there was no way he would serve us and ordered us repeatedly to leave. We were more than ready to have authorities come and check the validity of our identification...but our requests fell on deaf ears and loud mouths ordering us to get out. I would understand if this was a college town where underage access to bars is rampant, but as a post-graduate working in Chicago, his immediate denial of our state-issued ID's was a shock and insult...the bartender's orders to leave will be permanently followed by me and my friends. read more

I'm not an alcoholic. That said, I was at Irish Eyes on some Sunday night with couple of girls and my buddy. The fact that it was Sunday should tell the reader that the joint was obviously lacking in the attendance category. But that is not always a bad thing, especially if you have an agenda to advance. As I was already pretty intoxicated, I figured it would be a good thing to keep going to prove to myself, once again, that I could live up to my Irish last name. It So happens that my agenda to drink more and more was conveniently facilitated by the absence of DePaul bar flies that lurk around this part of town looking for a means to satisfy their end, which is also my end in this case. Cheers for Sunday! Making this night a more enjoyable story to tell the next morning was the fact that it was 'open mic night'. This girl at our table plugged her Ipod into the sound system and we simultaneously became Gods. Now, I don't know if the management is always this flexible, but we sure didn't care to ask. Beer after beer, song after song, I was liking this place more and more. The bar itself is not bad. It's a typical bar in the neighborhood and is generally filled with DePaul kids on the weekend (as one would expect). There's live music and darts, but the reason I'm giving Irish Eyes only 1 star is because of the appalling service experience I had. There was clearly a long line of people waiting to get served. The bartender instead poured himself a beer and proceeded to drink it as patrons were waiting. He then flirted with the other girl bartender rather than attending to the customers. When he finally started serving customers, I asked to close out a tab and gave the name on the card. He kept staring at me blankly. After repeating this 3 times (including the name), he snapped at me and said "if you want to close out a tab you have to give a name". When I repeated the name a fourth time, he yelled at me saying "You do not need to shout". I was not yelling. There was music blaring loudly in the background. read more
