Nice place, good looking bar with plenty of room. Pool table and jukebox that I was probably pissing people off with. The service was friendly and plenty of options. My issue was the drinks. Me and my wife both ordered well drinks and besides the price being more than they should, there was almost no alcohol in there. I mean like half as much as there should be. What a pleasant surprise! We stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall spot while waiting for alterations to be done, and it ended up being the perfect find. Yes, it's a hole in the wall, but in the best way possible. What you see is what you get. The bartenders are great--friendly faces and solid drinks--and you absolutely can't beat the prices, especially for top-shelf options. This is an older bar (established in 1933!). It's a bit of a dive, but nice and clean and cozy. It's quite large. There weren't too many patrions in on a rainy Friday afternoon. I enjoyed my time chatting up the kind bartendress, watching a Cubs day gave on tv, and leisurely enjoying a few beers. The place is inviting and would make a great neighborhood bar of I lived anywhere nearby. I'm glad I accidentally stumbled hone this little diamond in the rough. read more

Chicago has tons of old bars. I especially like this one. Burwood Tap has been around since 1933 and looks like it. Has to be old if they still sell cigarettes, and they have these along with lighters. They also have free shit like popcorn. A lot of character in this bar as well as characters. It's $7 for some of the cheapest cocktails. They even have the Chicago Mule. Basically like a regular mule but with lemon juice. Good shit though. Also free popcorn and best thing about it is it's free. This may not be anything special but it doesn't cost anything to get some. Good old bars like this are rare but this is one of these to come to and get something cheap. It even sells cigarettes and lighters. The bar has a casual feel but it's like your friend's home though. read more

One of my favorite bars in the city. Recently celebrated my 35th there this past weekend and Tony, who was working the front bar, was exceptional. She took great care of me and my friends and was very attentive. The popcorn was fresh and delicious as always, too. This place can go from dead to jam packed on a whim, which it did, so I'm glad we got there early and were able to get a big table. Fun little dive bar. I always enjoy stumbling upon cute little places with my friends. This place is a treasure. I love the random decor. Nice pool table for people to play on. Good music and areas for dancing. Lots of tables. The service was great! They knew that one round of drinks took too long so they gave us that round on the house without us even saying a word. Not only is it Lincoln Parks oldest pub, it's the best from what I've seen. Huge, cozy atmosphere with pool tables and TV's. Went there with some regs and was treated like fafammily. Those are the type of bars I like to go to. Unfortunately within 5 minutes of being there, I took a call informing me I was basically laid off from my current job. Within 10 minutes, the bartender and some regulars were buying me shots, feeding me the free popcorn and bumming me smokes. Can't say enough about Veronica the bartender. Local dive bar tucked away in upper Lincoln Park area. Has a feel good vibe to it with a dimly lit bar area highlighted by Christmas lights. Cheap drinks and unlimited supply of popcorn. I RARELY write Yelp reviews, and I'm bummed to have to do this.... I went to Burwood last Friday with a group. We brought food in (pre-cleared, I called them before to double check) and ordered a few rounds on an open tab. I got 2 margaritas, which being a dive bar I knew was a stretch but figured why not. The first one was fine, but pretty weak. The second was undrinkable, made with lemon juice and what seemed like no alcohol. When we went to close out the tab, we found out each drink was $16 dollars!!!! Shame on me for not asking to begin with, but most bars in the area would be maybe $10 and all the other drinks we ordered throughout the night were under $10. What is a dive bar doing charging $16 a drink? I also ordered a glass of wine (again, a stretch ask for a dive but I don't drink beer/cider) and the bartender poured it, sniffed the bottle to check if it was still good, hesitated, then gave me the glass. The wine was disgusting. Super super bummed with how non-chalant the bartender was and the overall experience. I will not be going back. read more

As many other reviews say, this is one of Chicago's many notable older bars. My recommendation if you are looking for the old timey feel - go anywhere but here. The staff, and the patrons they were talking to, were incredibly rude and made fun of people in our group for absolutely no reason. Aside from the popcorn and pool table there is really nothing special about it. Chicago - Lincoln Park - especially has so many great dives and rustic-type bars. Not worth going to this one where the people inside are so unwelcoming. read more

I came here for a buddy's birthday party 3 years ago and i thought it was pretty cool as they have video games and pool tables and a good drink special due to their great party packages. My friend and I stumbled upon this place when we were on a random quest to find a place to grab a drink. The decor of this place is best described as random which fits for the dive bar type of feel. I loved the vibe of this place first the very moment I walked in here. I'm not a huge drinker but when I do drink I like to ask the bartender what they would recommend for someone that likes sweet mixed drinks with vodka. 99% of bartenders I've met always have a drink within the first 30 seconds of me asking and some of them even offer to make me a customized drink. The first bartender we encountered wasn't friendly and seemed like she would rather be anywhere else in the world then in that bar. She didn't have a clue as to what to recommend and seemed like she hadn't been working there long. As the night progressed that same bartender was seen braiding her colleagues hair and taking shots with the other workers that night. I don't mind having a good time but you can't be at the main bar and slacking off. The second bartender that took over for the first bartender was amazing! She was super personable and equally knowledgeable when my friend and I asked about different drinks. We decided to give her all of our business for the rest of the night. Had we not interacted with her I don't think I would've even considered coming back let alone recommending this place. As the night went on this chill place turned into a mini-night club filled with people in their early to late 20's. It was a great vibe and I truly enjoyed myself. Mmmm the Tap, where the drinks are cheap, popcorn is popping and company is always great. Burwood Tap holds a special place in my heart because when my mom and aunt were living in LP many years ago (number will go undisclosed) the tap was their go to, and now the torch has passed to my brother, cousin and I. Walking into the Tap, you probably feel like you're in a time warp, and I bet you it hasn't changed a bit from years ago. I may go as far to say that this could be the best dive in Lincoln Park. They have it all, pool, giant Jenga, free popcorn and enough space for you and all your friends. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, two generations of this family have never been. read more

Went here on a Saturday for a friends going away party. They told her she had the whole back room, didn't mention that it would also be occupied by 2 other parties. Once inside, you can't move. Tables and chairs everywhere, takes 10 minutes just to get to the bar. Once you get your drink, there's nowhere to sit or put your jacket down. At the end of the night I asked for my license and card back (yes, they make you give them ID with a card). I didn't notice that they had given me someone else's ID and credit card until I got home (similar IDs and cards). I called them for 3 days trying to see if they had my ID and card, no one answered. I couldn't leave a voicemail because the mailbox was full, and they would not respond to Facebook messages. I finally got in touch through email to find out that they did not have my card. So either they gave out 2 sets of cards and IDs to incorrect people and neither of us noticed, or they just threw my stuff out. Either way, never going back here again. My bartender was efficient, not over the top friendly. Have some fun decor pieces here and there on the ceiling. Also have a pool table towards the back which is occupied on the weekends. The trivia night is really cool, so is the guy who organizes it. They hand out sheets. Multiple rounds and comes around to score in between each. Regular's come here in groups, so watch out.
