I have been going here ever since I was a little kid. It's near our cottage and is a staple of the Irish Hills. I finally got on here to make a review after all these years because they absolutely CRUSHED it on the sprinkle ratio of my twist cone yesterday! I really wanted to like this place because I've been here other years past & had a pleasant experience. They just open for the season unfortunately the staff is very rude. The girl who took our order was snapping at us through the window. It's really such a shame because this place is conveniently located to the state park. The ice cream wasn't horrible in fact it tasted pretty good but the staff was horrible so I wouldn't recommend them based off of that experience. With rude staff it gives you dirty looks and screams at customers we won't be going back I would avoid it if I were you...go into town in Brooklyn instead. read more

I love Dairy Bar. It's been a staple every summer when we come out to the lake house. Can't head home without having had Dairy Bar at least once on each visit. They used to do more toppings than they currently do, but I still love the vibes and ice cream. Their Drake's Sugar Daddy is one of my favorites. Got to catch them when the crowd is lower for faster service, but you're never waiting too long even if there is a big line. read more

Reviews are funny..they are just people's opinions right? When I read bad reviews on a great place, I realize my opinion is just another, albeit mine is usually spot on, ha! This little ice cream place is awesome. The ice cream is so good, they have real malts, and the shakes are...well slap worthy. This is the best place I've ever had ice cream at. Staff are the best. I can't remember her name but I think she told me Kylie she was the best ever. Her willingness to help my kids and be so friendly to them really made my day and heart happy. I recently embarked on a girls weekend to Hayes State Park across the road. For our final night we decided to get a sweet treat at the Dairy Bar. I ordered a regular waffle cone hand dipped and paid the outrageous price of $6.03. My friends ordered the same exact thing and paid different prices. The man at the register was less than friendly, and the gaudy colors on the picnic tables were enough to spark a migraine. The tables also had exposed rusty screws, of which I could have impaled myself on. Over grown bushes bloomed throughout the small shack, some what dating back to Laura Ingles Wilder's days at the Little House on Prairie. I loved enjoying my ice cream with a view of a portable restroom. I have never been so dissatisfied with an establishment in my many days on this earth. read more

On a quick stop through Onsted we stopped in and had a very enjoyable treat. The staff was very friendly and has a great 'home town' feeling to the entire experience. We couldn't decide between two of their menu items so they gave us the (hidden menu) "Freak Show," which included them both, one on top of the other! Also bonus to have Michigans' own Ashby's Ice Cream. Thanks, we'll be back to visit again next season! read more

Absolutely horrendous. First off, 3 out of the 7 people in our group opted for a slushy. It was to their dismay that the machine was down. We ordered 4 items, two hot fudge sundaes, an avalanche, and a peanut crunch sundae. Both of the sundaes were MELTED by the time it took us to drive the 2 minutes home. Our car was RAVAGED and looked as if an animal had done its buisness all over the car. It was unbearable. It was also difficult for us to understand how our total was nearly 27 dollars. FOR FOUR ITEMS. This place is going downhill and FAST! We waited FOR SO LONG and we were the only people there! Not to mention the stench SMELLS LIKE COOCHIE! the the three seemingly-eight-year-olds that worked there. Small menu. Small workers. Small satisfaction. read more

Wonderful "Mom and Pop" style local ice cream stop. They have both hand scooped and soft serve. Portions are huge. My favorite is the Grasshopper O'Malley sundae. read more

I ordered a small ice cream (what would be comparable product to a DQ Blizzard). It came in a huge cup! Wayyy to much ice cream to finish but it was pretty good. I like that there is plenty of benches to sit at and a little park next door. Kept the kids entertained for a few hours while we enjoyed ice cream. read more

I wanted to love this little ice cream shop, but was disappointed. The workers were all very young and seemed to be playing more than working. Waited 20 min for 2 shakes. The ice cream was decent, but nothing to write home about. They had run out of cups so we got our regular shake in a large cup and a large shake in the large cup. Both came with straws about 2 inches shy of the bottom of the cup, which is pretty crummy when drinking a shake. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Waited 20 min in line when only 4 people in front of us. Then waited another 7 or 8 for our simple ice cream order. Had VERY young kids working. Mint chip shake tasted aweful and wasn't even mixed together just dumped toppings in and handed out window. Cookie dough flurry had a large hair in it. Rather pricey and didn't have prices posted. Will not be returning. Try not to give negative reviews but this was a sickening experience. read more

I have lived in the Irish Hills my entire life and have always enjoyed the dairy bar. Whenever my family had a craving for ice cream we would always drive to the dairy bar as our first option. However, I am saddened to say that recently the quality of the Dairy Bar has greatly decreased. Over the past couple of weeks I have traveled to the Dairy Bar with hopes that I could enjoy a well made ice cream product. I was instead provided a poorly constructed flurry (Avalanche) with very minimal toppings, some of the toppings were missing. Then today my family and I drove to the Dairy Bar because we had a craving for soft serve ice cream in a cake cone. Seems simple right? But the way our ice cream turned out was horrid. My father order a medium and the amount of ice cream he received was that of a small. I myself order a small vanilla cone dipped in cherry topping. The amount of ice cream was impeccably low and it seemed that I had paid for a small and was given a junior size. Then the worker went to add the cherry topping and the only part of the cone that was "dipped" was the tip of the ice cream. The only order that was correctly made was my girlfriend's. She ordered a small vanilla cone as well but her small cone had triple the ice cream as mine. I mentioned this to the worker who had made my ice cream and his response was "Oh" and then he walked away. It has seemed that the service is greatly diminishing the quality of the Dairy Bar. The workers are poorly trained and the low quality is simply a waste of money. I will no longer be a customer of the Irish Hills Dairy Bar. read more
