We've had a lot of contractors and so-called craftsmen at our house since we started renovations on…read moreour 1924 house in Silver Lake a few years ago. We're trying to restore how the house might have looked at the beginning of the 20th century after countless bad decisions & poor "improvements" by previous owners, which actually made the house look like a sick mutt. Unfortunately, not very many of these "experts" we've had round have been much use at realizing our dream. Many rows and arguments later it got to the point where I wasn't trusting anyone in LA to do a good job. But we needed a railing on the front steps (a previous owner had obviously thought it would be a good idea to dismantle the original steps and remove the old iron railings). After much research we found king ironworks. Thank god we did. I gave them a raft of photos I'd taken of a old 1920s railing on a house down the street & king managed to copy it exactly. It's thick, heavy (it took three men to carry it up the steps) metal and looks like it has been sat on our front steps for 100 years, which is exactly what we wanted to achieve.

The steel plate on my wrought iron front gate was dented and scratched during outdoor remodeling…read morelast year. The paint was terribly faded and I was looking into powder coating it. I didn't want a fresh powder coat job on a damaged gate, so I Yelped for welding services close to me. I called Precision Welding and Adan answered and came over to my house within the hour. He was going to give me an estimate for replacing the steel plate. The gate is a little smaller than 4' x 6'. To my surprise, he told me they could take it over to his guy that does powder coating. That sealed the deal for me. We texted back and forth and we set up an appointment to get the job done. My gate was removed on a Tuesday and was reinstalled as good as new by Friday afternoon (I was told Friday, Saturday at the latest). This was important to me because I have three dogs and a pool. I'm old school and like to have a written contract, but I realize that nowadays texting serves the same purpose. Great craftsmanship, excellent communication, great value, all in timely fashion. I highly recommend Precision Welding. As a bonus, I had my spring replaced with a self closing hinge. I have needed that for decades. The old setup would slam shut, especially on windy days, cracking the brick wall. I've been afraid I would have to replace my wall. Note that the side rails need to be painted. We didn't want to remove them because they are inside my new pavers. I received a can of paint and will do that myself.

I admire most how well Oscar can creatively solve/compensate for imperfections in existing structures and landscape that he may have to work with (like an existing leaning walls and slopes). My latest project required a lot of that kind of detail/compensating to add iron fencing on top of a wood wall that was no longer straight or fully upright. His work was beautiful and even ended up making my existing slightly leaning wall below his fencing look straighter too.
