What an awesome experience I had here!! I was in pigeon Forge for a vacation for the week and stumbled across iron Mountain metal craft. They have plenty of already made knives that you can purchase, but the best thing is an experience of forging your own knife. I chose to make my own knife from a horseshoe. You have one of the blacksmith's working with you the entire time. They handle heating up the metal and giving you very clear direction on what to do. You get to do all of the pounding on an anvil to shape your knife. Once all of that was done, they take it to be sanded and polished and sharpened up. Each knife came with its own sheath. The entire process probably took about 45 minutes, but was the most fun thing to do and you end up with your own knife that you made yourself. The pricing was very reasonable at $50 for one knife made from the horseshoe I went with the mid range price, but there are other options available. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone in the area!! read more

We loved our experience at Iron Mountain Metal Craft. We were able to book a lesson on blacksmithing and forge our very own knives. Best souvenir ever! We liked it so much that we returned the next day to get a souvenir for my husband's boss as well. The guys who run the demonstrations and lessons are all super helpful and friendly. I stopped in at a little shopping strip and heard banging noises so I walked over to check it out. I noticed several people making knives. I inquired about the process and was told I could make one too! Of course I had to try it. I put on all the required safety gear and was instructed by a knife maker on what to do. He was super kind and guided me throughout the process. I paid $50 bucks for a piece of a horse shoe and made it into a knife. Another group of workers shined and sharpened it for me. In the end it was the best experience I had in making something! The owner just happened to be there and took a picture with us (Robby Bowman)! For only $50 I got an amazing experience in making a knife which I got to keep. It was more than worth it! Let me start with no! I had no desire to do this, but hubs booked at appointment for the entire crew! So, when in "Forge," right? Therefore, I went to the forge and picked my horseshoe. We did three of the four options. They were wonderfully patient with our 12 and under. He loved it. I strongly recommend it for children 7 and over. It isn't easy, but challenging, and then the child will be old enough to remember. Hubs picked a challenging one, and had a great time. I did the adult horseshoe, and felt accomplished. Our family went into the shop to make 7 knives. It started off wrong because I had just broken my hand but the older lady up front insisted that we still had to pay for the knife I couldn't make. It made no sense since we could literally just all walk out but whatever, I didn't want my family's experience ruined because my hand was broken. I was pretty much forced to make a knife one-handed. No empathy at all from the front staff. Just a bunch of money grubbers. The knife making staff was cool and worked with me and my broken hand. They were patient and kind unlike the old lady owner who was rude and condescending. Even when my sister asked if they had a bathroom, she said, "nope, try somewhere else!" Just a rude lady and I'm positive she has reviews removed because I saw a lot of negative reviews when we were there and they are now gone. I will keep reposting this review so they know to avoid the grumpy old lady from the front. I'm sure her husband is just as grumpy as I read the reviews before she deleted them. Bunch of rancid people. They don't like multicultural families in this place. You better look like you're a local or expect to be treated like crap by the owners. While visiting Pigeon Forge I was lucky enough to take part in receiving instruction in the ancient art of blacksmithing! While researching things to do in Pigeon Forge we came across a mention of Iron Mountain - seeing the videos online of folks swinging hammer on anvil and forging their own knives from molten metal....wow! I was beyond intrigued and this became a must-do on this trip. This activity is in high demand, phone ahead of your trip to make reservations. I took the railroad spike knife lesson, and my wife did the pony shoe knife. The entire experience takes about an hour. You are given a heavy protective apron and safety glasses. We had the privlege of enjoying an amazing lesson by Robby Bowman - from the History Channel's TV Show: 'Forged in Fire'. He guided us both through our knife creation process. Swinging the hammer on the molten iron was done one at a time, so it gave plenty of opportunity for us to take pictures and videos of each other during the process. After creating your knife, it is sharpened and polished and given to you complete with sheath. They can also perform some laser engraving on your knife afterwards. We really enjoyed the process, the lesson and craftmanship, and most of all how fun and memorable Robby Bowman made the experience. We posed for pictures with him afterwards as well. Woo! My youngest son (10) and I enjoy Forged in Fire from the History channel, and the guy who owns Iron Mountain was on season 4. We had a blast and he loved making the pony show knife. If you have ever consider doing blacksmithing, here is your chance. The instructors are patient, skilled and really good teachers with people that don't have a clue. Reservations are a good idea as they fill up quickly. You pick out what you want to make, listen to your smith's instructions and about an hour later, you have a knife. Sounds easy enough, but it is work. When they bring the hot metal out of the forge and tell you to start hammering, they mean HAMMERING. So, I got to live out my blacksmith dream and realized that blacksmithing, as a profession, is no joke. Great fun and really enjoyable result. read more

The owner is famous and has been on TV a few times with his craftsmanship. He is super nice and willing to pose for photos. We got ours! We had a great time with the experience. It is super safe. I don't even know where to begin. My boyfriend and I were going to be in the area in a short vacation. I was looking for something to do and came across Iron Mountain Metal Craft online. My boyfriend's father passed away and few years and I wanted to combine two things he loves, his dad and knives. I emailed them and asked if it was possible to somehow combine the two. I cannot say I ever imagined doing something like this and now I want my own little forge. If you are in Pigeon Forge, you must do this. It does not matter if you are young or old, this is neat. My grandfather poured steel for a living for 40 years this was as close to the experience I could get. We will go back again even if we are just in Knoxville. The overall experience of my boys and husband making their own knives here was really great. The blacksmiths were terrific with the kids! However, I made reservations over the phone 2 weeks in advance and showed up to no reservation on their books. They keep a paper appointment book and the front office is very chaotic. The ladies working up front certainly had a lot going on, but were also incredibly rude. We stood around and waited, as I was confident I made the appointment for our son's 15th birthday. They eventually penciled us in and the positive experience with the blacksmiths saved the day! Outstanding customer service and easy 5 star experience! The metal craft workshops are usually booked out- make sure you book ahead of time! I did- and then was stuck in 2 hours of traffic that forced me to miss my knife making workshop- 2 of my friends did use the booked time and made their knives and they asked for me if there was any way possible to fit me in the next day and they did! There were 4 of us- and me and Emily missed our first appointment but you bet your bottom we hung out for hours to make sure we didn't miss out a second time! They offer several different options for knife making, including one for kids under 12! I choose the most expensive one simply because I loved the twisted handle look of the knife! It was made out of a railroad spike, they have one out of a horseshoe and one made from a pony shoe. You get to hammer the shape with guidance from a professional and then an up close and personal look as they grind the blade and polish it! Sparks a flying! I love trying new things and love love love creating things with my hands! What a cool experience! Cannot recommend enough! 5 stars is not high enough for this establishment. I am a huge fan of Forged in Fire and while in Pigeon Forge my wife and I went to the Old Forge Distillery. While there we saw railroad spike knives for sale for $65 and purchased one. It was pointed out that they were made at the Iron Mountain Metal Craft so my wife and I decided to go take a look. We had no idea of who owned this until I saw a picture and told my wife that the owner was a former contestant, Robby Bowman. Robby was not there that day but my wife said I should forge a knife anyway. I ended up doing a railroad spike knife with Dylan and had a blast, so much so my wife had me make a horseshoe knife as well with him. Everyone at the shop made us feel so welcome and were so patient. I ended up doing two knives and had an absolute blast that I scheduled another appointment for the next day. My wife did not accompany me, which was a shame because when I showed up I found out I would be forging another railroad spike knife with Robby himself! I had such a wonderful time I asked if they had any appointments left so my wife could witness this. Unfortunately they were book solid, that is until Robby told them to schedule me for 6:00. Mind you they close at 6:00 but he went out of his way to make sure my wife could see this. We came back at 6 and made my 4th knife in two days. The following day as we were leaving town we stopped by to say good bye and thank them for everything. Fortunately for me their 12:00 appointment decided not to show up and they asked me if I wanted it. Of course I did and to top it off they allowed my wife to make a cross. Mind you the wife had ZERO desire of forging anything but she decided to make one. She admitted afterward she really enjoyed it and really enjoyed working with Robby. I cannot encourage people enough to visit Iron Mountain Metal Craft and make their own knife. They are unbelievable reasonable. You can buy a railroad spike knife for $65 or make your own for $75. A horseshoe knife runs about $35. The staff there will treat you like an old friend and you are never treated like a customer. We were at iron mountain on 6/13/22. A special guest had arrived which occupied some time but all employees at Iron Mountain were considerate to us. They were filming for a show, which added to the story our kids can now tell. One of our kids were over heated and they were very accommodating to him. Everyone from inside the shop to the staff in the forge were professional and personable.
