Visiting Collingwood, I was elected to choose a place for supper to suit everyone in our group of 4. Found the Iron Skillet, the menu and photos looked good so off we went. After a friendly welcome by the Hostess, we met our server, also very friendly and helpful. He brought our drinks right away & gave us time to make our choices, fish & chips for 3 and Chicken parmesan for me. While waiting for our meals, I ogled the meals being delivered to other guests and have to say, they all looked quite appetizing! When our meals arrived, we all were pleased with how good everything looked and started right in. The fish was crispy on the outside, nice and firm on the inside, beautifully done. The fries were good too. My chicken Parm was excellent, served with penne & Alfredo sauce. The chicken had a lovely breaded crust and was tender on the inside, had a nice sauce and the cheese was perfectly melty and chewy. I've had chicken Parm many times, none of them were terrible, but this was the best I've had. We all agreed we would be happy to come and eat here again. Wanted to come for dinner, but only had time for breakfast. Had diner feels and the breakfast items definitely matches the vibes. More unique items for lunch and breakfast. Toast Sausage and egg - Big breakfast for a decent price. Pretty standard. French toast - Bread came soggy and heavy, expecting light and crispy. A bit disappointing, would not recommend. Heard good things about their chicken parm. Breakfast did not do it justice, will have to come back and try again. read more

This establishment is high rated very highly, so we were expecting a great meal. It was good, but nothing really wowed us. We made it in time for the happy hour specials, so treated ourselves to some coconut shrimp and a cocktail. The cocktail was not well balanced and overly sour. Our server confessed that they didn't even know that cocktail existed on the menu. The coconut shrimp was good, and worth it at half price. They are known for their paella, and with the restaurant name "the iron skillet" I expected it to be made in the traditional way. Unfortunately, our paella came in a regular dish, and didn't have the right flavours. It was more like a tomato rice with some seafood thrown in. Not bad, but not what I was looking for. read more

Once the tour was over, we were looking for a restaurant offering brunch / lunch , came across The Iron Skillet, they were open at 11 am ... the restaurant is well put together, has a cozy atmosphere and the staff were welcoming and friendly with big smiles . We were given a detailed description of the specials and we chose the Iron Skillet breakfast & Lunch Mexican Perogies. Both dishes were prepared well, flavourful and with a homemade touch. Food is mid, large sizes but not so tasty. I got the Yorkshire was too salty so I switched with my daughter and had her schnitzel it was very oily and bland. They where very busy and the very young staff tried hard to get the food and wait the tables, but it took 1 hr and 25 min. Staff was nice though. The best part was the vegetables for us anyway. Great place! Yelp page needs an update because they were marked on here as closed when they were indeed open. My SO and I were in town for his Spartan races- and this was the perfect place to have a quiet meal after 3 obstacle course races with great, attentive, and friendly service, menu with wide variety of food options ranging from light to hearty, and great portions. No frills but a family vibe. We shared a Greek salad and this was probably the only thing I didn't like here. It was overdressed and there were no tomatoes or cucumbers as described on the menu. Sad. -1 star for that. However the bruschetta was very good. While not the traditional Italian bruschetta it was tasty. Came on three large toasts that were nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Came out super warm and fresh. For mains he had the 12 oz NY, with fries and veg. The steak was cooked great but lacked some flavor. The char was great though and meat was cooked exactly how he liked it. Fries were good. Steamed veg was good but nothing memorable. I got the beef liver and onions and this was so comforting! The liver came in 2 large slices and grilled so there was a subtle crisp on the outside while the inside was soft and melted in the mouth. Great portion. Again it lacked some seasoning so I heavily salted and peppered throughout- but always better to err on the less salty for guests I suppose! I got the baked potato on the side and it wad actually so good. Super creamy and perfectly cooked. It came with sour cream and butter on the side. You could probably ask for other fixings if you'd like but it was so good. Again steamed veg was just steamed veg. Overall great restaurant especially for the area which typically seemed to have lots of restaurants lacking in personality. This one stood out and I'm glad we came in. read more

This town grows on you! Nice friendly and busy establishment with plenty of parking. I need to try other menu items other than pasta dishes and Cesar Salads. The coconut shrimp appetizer was excellent. The pasta dishes were satisfactory but lacked a knock out light creamy sauce. A bit bit too plain and over filling. Tony has been a staple favourite in town for decades. His new restaurant has a tonne of amazing, unique and hand crafted dishes you can't find anywhere else. I had a hard time deciding between at least 7 items; which means I'm coming back for schnitzel and goulash as I tried the fajitas this time. His home made hot sauce is awesome. "Ragin' Cajun" It seems to be the same recipe from what I remember in the early 90s. Except not as hot. FYI: the interior appears to have been changed from the photos posted here and is a lot more cozy with a centre divider and rows of booths. The restaurant here is extremely below average. I compared it to the food one would expect to get in a cafeteria somewhere. Though the portions were huge and generous - the food itself was bland and flavourless and unappetizing, to be totally frank. We had a huge party, and I got to taste and see a good variety of the menu offerings. It wasn't the absolute worst I've ever had, but it wasn't even near average. The menu is also huge. Overwhelmingly huge - they need to trim that menu down, and specialize in a smaller selection of solid items rather than deliver dozens and dozens of very mediocre items. They also have a hot sauce called Suicide - which I thought was tacky and made me and my partner cringe. It should probably be updated given our current social climate/mental health awareness. The restaurant itself was also very ugly. The lighting was harsh and the decor was dreadful. It felt like eating in someone's old, poorly decorated basement apartment. I may be biased as I live in Toronto, where the culinary scene is huge and the industry is very cut-throat, but either way, I was not impressed nor was anyone else at my table. I give it 2 stars as the "homemade cheesecake" was average, and the food wasn't necessarily inedible or gross...just not good. read more

Have come to dine here multiple times. The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly! I highly recommend if there is a schnitzel special on the day you arrive then order it. They've all been great. If you get Jessica as your waitress as well she's a great hostess! Went there and sat for 30 minutes before we asked if they were short staffed. They were. The server finally came and advised they were out of steak and Prime rib... On prime rib night. I told the nice server to let the manager know that not advising patrons about the situation when they walk in is a disgrace. Won't be going back. read more

We were passing by and decided to try this place out I got the food i got the fish and chips and my boyfriend got the steak on a bun. The fish and chips was nice and hot the fish was light and fluffy also didn't taste frozen The crust was a little on the oily side. The cole slaw that came on the side was not the most fresh and I barely ate it. For two steak on a bun nothing exceptional but it was not bad! Cooked to the medium rare. I was with a group, but for other unrelated reasons, I didn't order anything. We sat outside in the patio area, only issue was the flies. Flies goddamm everywhere. Swarming through our arms, legs, faces, and our food. It was unbearable. The food looks great though, best to be served inside. But the flies probably lost the 3 stars. Is there a preventative measure available or could be taken? Yeah, but it doesn't look like any were present. Possibly a fly trap in the far corner away from where patrons were sitting or a screen mesh in place surrounding the patio. Next time, I'll be inside. This place is great! We were in Collingwood for a conference and not familiar with local restaurants. I'm this situation I always look up restaurants that were featured on You Gotta Eat Here - this one popped up and did T disappoint. Quantities were great. Prices are good. Service is great. And the quality and taste were really good. I had the stuffed Yorkshire pudding. The veg were a little undercooked but in a way that made me happy because they were fresh not frozen. The roast beef was tasty but I'm not quite sure if it was cooked on site - thus the 4 stars. There person I was dining with had the gluten free enchiladas which she said were excellent. I attended the location in Wasaga Beach. Amazing. It really seems like a perfect like restaurant. The blackened chicken is one of their signature items- they have it in various sandwiches, pastas. This becomes their second location, with the Reef and Beef owners re- branding the restaurant, and changing the menu, while keeping the steak house specialties. The atmosphere is upscale, with spot on décor. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. The menu is varied with something for everyone. I had to send my lobster back because it was completely undercooked..how could a seafood restaurant do that? I went to the Iron Skillet 2.0 on Saturday night, as with other reviews I've seen, one of the big mistakes was that our server only came once to ask for drink orders and never came back again. My meal was very good and it was one of the specials offered. Another person we were with had the Chicken Parmesan with pasta and they said that the chicken was over cooked and that the pasta had no flavour. Hopefully in time the service will improve as well as the food. The Iron Skillet Original has always been a very good choice for us in the past so hopefully this new version will improve its quality of food and service in the future. read more
