Came here for lunch and got the Phyllo baked Brie and Shaved Beef. The service was quick and the staff was nice. 1) Phyllo Baked Brie I like brie so I chose this one. I didn't expect the portion size to be generous (I struggled to finish it a little) but it was on the pricey side so it shouldn't be a surprise. Overall, the meal was quite nice and I enjoyed it although I did find the berries to be a bit too much. 2) Shaved Beef This was recommended by other reviews so we decided to try it as well. We ordered takeout on a Sunday afternoon. When we got there, we had to call in from outside the restaurant to place our order. We waited about 15 minutes outside because of the limited capacity inside the restaurant. The portions were ok but a bit pricey (understandable given we were in Collingwood). The lasagna was pretty good. Don't order the poutine - some of the home fries tasted stale, burnt and overall didn't go well with gravy/cheese. Last minute change in venue brought us to this brunch place in downtown Collingwood. It's the weekend so it was free street parking; regularly $1/hr with 3 hour maximum. Vaccination status was checked at the entrance and then we were seated at one of many booths. Service was excellent! We saw the co-owner (the real boss was the spouse & kitchen chef) of Duncan's working the floor. Aside: Duncan was the name of a cat that ascended to cat heaven decades ago. The homemade food was incredible. I really loved the large bowl of Hearty Beef Vegetable soup. My son had the Butternut Squash selection. My partner and I spent a lovely weekend in Collingwood and went to Duncan's for breakfast. It's a cozy place filled with artwork, matching the small town feel. We both got a cup of coffee and scrambled eggs with sausage and white toast. The sausage was amazing and you get 3 good sized pieces! The eggs were great as well and we clarified with our server that they don't use any milk or butter when cooking the eggs (perfect for those diary free). The potatoes were a bit on the soft side for me and I would have wanted it to have more of a crunch, but of course that is a personal preference. Could not even get in past the terrible racist service to actually get a table in the restaurant. The elderly man, who seem to be very friendly with the white folk completely looked past all non-white people waiting in line to get in for seating. When we confronted him about his racist behavior, he just pretended, as if nothing wrong happen. He was going out of his way to avoid making eye contact with us, or seating us. My family and I walked into the restaurant to see that it was full. I was holding the door for my 75 year old father and was yelled at by the patrons in the restaurant telling me to close the door. While staying in Collingwood we were looking for a diner breakfast, not just coffee shop. The menu for breakfast did have a ton of options, and perhaps if I got a benedict or even something sweeter, I would definitely bump this up a star. The service was great. I got a western scramble on toast with homefries. The potatoes are a generous serving, and "finish your plate" worthy. For somewhere that serves breakfast, especially a diner, there is only white and wheat options for toast. The establishment itself is cute. Lots of art on the wall, most for sale. Good music. I'm not in the Collingwood area very often, but I stopped by here for brunch on my way back from a weekend at Blue Mountain. We picked Duncan's while searching for brunch places based on some pretty good Yelp reviews. That being said, maybe with limited options in the vicinity, the rave reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. So we arrived around 11-ish with a large group of 8 people, no reservations or anything. The restaurant was able to accomodate us without waiting, but gave us two tables for 4. We asked to move the tables, but they said we couldn't because that would block the aisle, which was very reasonable. A few minutes later, they came back and told us that a table for 8 had freed up, which I thought was very considerate of them. Points for service here! I ordered the eggs benedict, which comes with peameal bacon on the English muffin here, so that is a little bit different from most places. I thought the eggs were pretty standard, but some of the home fries were a little bit burnt, and the peameal bacon was too salty. I tried some of my friend's steak, and thought it was a little bit too dry and/or overcooked, but then again, he did ask for medium to medium-well, which isn't really my cup of tea. I liked the vibe in the restaurant, which definitely felt like a small town, community kind of diner, with a bar at the back. The place is vibrant and fun, with lots of cool artwork hanging around the restaurant walls which are available for purchase. Verdict: Duncan's is a decent choice for breakfast/brunch if you're in the area, and the people who work here are very nice and accomodating. However, the quality of the food doesn't get any better than average, so don't set your expectations too high. read more

Ordered eggs Florentine, sauce tasted rotten, was watery/salty and disgusting. Barely ate my meal, complained to waitress, nothing was done. They then charged me full price and didn't say anything about it. The potato's were dry on the inside, I tried to eat as much of the potatoes as I could but they weren't edible without ketchup loaded on.i would have been happy to pay for 50% of the meal, if they offered it for free I would refuse it. They didn't even offer any solution at all. Horrible business. Never going again, poor waitress didn't get a tip because I was appalled. read more

The restaurant wasn't really busy since we were eating at like 2:30 in the afternoon. The hostess walked by us several times and took her time. I had to speak to her first and asked if we could be seated. I was annoyed and hungry, maybe you have to look like you came from a drunken cottage ski-trip to get service here. The menu had a lot of items. When we were asked for our order, we asked for coke. Abruptly they said they only had Pepsi. Ok, fine. The said, please don't order the Duncan burger, we just sold it. Damn. I had the jerk-chicken mango salad. It was a generous portion and the ginger dressing was light and refreshing. I did like my salad! They close at 4pm and I heard the waitress say she was going to start booting people off the patio. Did she really have to be so rude about it? May 19/12 Went for dinner 1st time here recommended by our kid who drops in here with friends every so often. Great quiet evening so we weren't hurried out, Stuffed Chicken w/goat cheese dish was great hot and tender hubby's Creole Bassa very tender well done huge portions took some home, prices are very reasonable for a little off the normal path in cottage country and tourist town so I will definitely want to come back again and try more, their breakfest menu looks amazing too!!! read more

On the way up to Sauble Beach my brother and I stopped into Duncan's. He picked it out, and it seemed like a decent pick because they had 4 stars on yelp and the menu looked interesting. I think they try to at least do interesting food at Duncan's, but they miss the mark. I had the steak sandwich, and they didn't slice the steak into strips at all like I had expected but put a big chunk of steak between a baguette. This could have been okay if it wasn't for the BIG piece of grizzle on the one side which I had an impossible time to chew through. The temperature on the steak was fine, but they really should slice up that steak. They could even use a cheap cut and marinate it, and then slice it up real thinly. I'm not sure what my brother didn't like about the blackened salmon wrap, but after the meal we both said the side salad was our favourite part. I had the garden, he had the caesar. Not to knock salads, but when that's your favourite part of the meal... it's kind of telling. To top things off, the service was a little meh, and I'm not one to be too picky about service (as long as the food is good). It was just the two of us and when we arrived the place wasn't too busy, but got busy later. The stop took us an hour, and we were a group of two, and our sides were SALADS. Not only this, but when my brother asked for the bill as the waitress came by, she kind of shunned him off. They put some effort into trying to make the food interesting here, but considering how little they seem to know about making high quality food, they really shouldn't be charging the prices they are charging. On my way back from Sauble Beach I ate at a place that was cheaper, more filling, and way more tastier. I would describe this place as overpriced and slow. Duncan's Cafe is definitely a mixed bag. They have a nice selection of sandwiches and mains but we left after our meal feeling that the food was just too expensive. Take the Duncan burger as an example. A standard/small sized patty with cooked onions and run-of-the-mill bacon, garnished with romaine lettuce, tomatoes and a pickle. The presentation looked great but the meat had little flavour and the bread may as well have been from Loblaws. The side of ceasar wasn't bad but the meal as a whole would leave many diners hungry. If they added a cup of soup, the $12 price tag might feel more justified. We've been at Duncan's for both lunch and for dinner - the feeling was the same both times. We may return when we're feeling adventurous again. read more
