We have used them for years. Each year we have asked about our dogs teeth as her breath was really bad. Each year they said they looked good. They did not. Finally just took her to the doggy dentist to get answers. She has periodontal disease, needs deep cleaning and will lose some teeth that have rotted. This did not just happen. We picked this veterinary practice based on proximity to our house but I am so grateful with the exceptional and thoughtful care our pets have received. We have both a young dog and a couple elderly cats and we have only had good experiences with both vets and with the vet techs who work there. I really like that it's a smaller waiting area - if we arrive right at our appointment time we are typically the only ones in the waiting area, which relieves a lot of stress for our pets. The rooms in which they are seen are dog and cat specific as well, which is a big help. Upon occasion I have called to get advice about various issues with our pets and they are always great about helping as much as they can over the phone and fitting us into the schedule within the next couple days if need be. Price of care has always seemed fair and on par with other vet clinics. It's run by good people who really care able animals. I can't recommend it enough. read more

We took our new rescue dog to visit with Dr. Eddy and the staff about a month ago. Unfortunately the dog has been the victim of abuse and is highly mistrustful so an exam was not attempted. Caroline did a great pre interview and made several attempts to engage with our dog in the most respectful manner. Dr. Eddy then sat with us answering questions and making suggestions that were much appreciated. While our dog has improved we will see how he does with a second visit tomorrow. We were so impressed with the fear free method they are utilizing and their complete respect our dog was treated with. It's a relief to find a veterinary practice that is willing to work with and help our pup move forward. I highly recommend this practic. read more

Dr. Eddy was great with my dog Charlie. I brought her in for an ear infection and he gave her a full exam and let me know what he was and wasn't concerned about. He was friendly to talk to and gave me instructions on how to clean out Charlie's ears and apply medication. We will definitely be going back to see Dr. Eddy for our future check ups. read more

We moved in the middle of the pandemic and our Plott Hound Teddy was so worried he made himself sick, we needed a vet fast! Ironhorse is 5 minutes from us and the fit us in! A antibiotic and probiotics set him right! Dr Dickerson is great and Teddy loved him! Our boxer Misty is a special needs rescue boxer from S Texas! She has many special needs one of which is tranquilizing Her when she needs to go to the vet or anywhere for that matter! Wow, Im impressed. their veterinary rooms are clean, customized and designed for the animal. My senior kitty enjoyed roaming the room, which has a beautiful view with bird feeders, as well as treats and a bed for him to retreat to. All the rooms have pheromones that keep the animals super calm, and if they get stressed out, they stop and wait. This is especially good if you have a dog in training as it encourages them to have patience instead of biting to avoid discomfort. The doctor was thorough and walked me through every potential procedure AND its cost before doing it. I have not found that to be the case at most vets. Their prices are also highly competitive and reasonable, which is important if you have a senior pet. I switched to this vet because it was closer. Initially I hesistated to do so because Leawood is more expensive than where I used to live, but Ironhorse was significantly more affordable than where I used to take my kitty. Couldnt be happier. I intend to come here for all my future visits. They genuinely love animals and are great with people, too. UPDATE: another great visit to Ironhorse vet care! My now (very very old) cat was a bit nervous to go back, since he has lost his hearing and doesn't like new spaces. The doctor and nurse here are very patient. They still have a nice prepared room for your pet, with a welcome sign, treats and pheromones to keep them relaxed. Unfortunately my cat was so naseous from the drive there that he made a mess during his appointment. The doctor got him cleaned up and gave me some puppy pads for the drive back. Bloodwork and exam for a senior cat is still very well priced here. This is the first place I recommend for all pet owners! read more

I visited Ironhorse Veterinary Care only once, and unfortunately had to make the difficult decision of putting down my kitten who meant a great deal to me. The staff members were very professional, but more than that each of them was also very considerate. Dr. Trent Eddy was exceedingly attentive, gentle, and caring -- it is obvious that he cares about animals very much, and the combination of his skills, attentive care, and thoroughness made me feel like I could trust his assessment and place my pet in his care. Despite only having met me and my kitten that visit, the nurse who was in the room with me wept along my side, the staff was kind enough to send me their condolences via snail mail (with a tissue included) and their consideration is beyond anything I was expecting, and it means an awful lot to me. read more

We took our new dog to IVC last week and had a great time. They greeted us with treats and a snowman bandana. We were quickly taken to the examine room and were left a few minutes to let our doggy settle down and get relaxed. Dr. Dickerson was very nice and answered my long list of questions. Our doggy got loots of treats and was very happy during our visit. We will happily take him back. UPDATE: August 2016 We've now been to IVC five more times since our original review. Our puppy was from the shelter and had several issues that needed to be sorted out. Despite multiple visits/exams he always walks into the office confident and ready to explore. We continue to have an awesome experience every time we go. Everyone who comes in contact with our dog comes with treats in hand and they make sure to give him enough time to feel relaxed before we they get started with any exams. What could be the most unpleasant exams, like ear swabs or shots, have gone very smoothly. Dr. Dickerson also does a great job of answering questions and has never made us feel rushed. Our doggy is a big fan of everyone at IVC. UPDATE: April 2018 We've been going to IVC for years now and we couldn't be happier. The staff is friendly and kind, and we always get plenty of time to ask any questions we have. Over the years Dr. Dickerson and Dr. Eddie have also been happy to answer questions over the phone. They received our dog with a sign up front that said "treat for Tito" with a doggy treat up front. The staff is friendly, super knowledgeable and help keep the doggies calm with pheromone scarfs and calm music. The two vets are amazing too, they took their time to explain things to us and weren't trying to up sell us on stuff (like other vets we've gone to). They are great at building a relationship with you and your dog. We are now loyal fans and hugely recommend them to anyone. As soon as I walked in the door, the receptionist was welcoming and showed me into a room where my cat would be seen by the vet. I was impressed with how clean and quiet the atmosphere was, and they even set up a little sign that said "Welcome Raylan" with a bowl of treats and a blanket in the perch on the window. I appreciated the approach that Dr. Dickerson took with my cat who was scared and stressed. He approached him where he was on the bench next to me and did an initial evaluation. He was gentle and thorough, and the eyedrops he prescribed cleared up the problem in a couple days. I had a couple questions which he took time answering, and I never once felt that he was rushed. I had a great experience using this vet clinic for the first time, and I will definitely bring in my other cat in when it is time for her annual exam. Today I had a chance to experience this vet. A neighbor was able to catch a young cat that appeared to be lost, as it was very hungry, cold and had a collar that was too tight (outgrown). After she caught the cat and I helped her contact all neighbors to ensure it was really lost, I offered to take the cat to the vet. I knew that this vet was a Fear-Free clinic and that was important to me because the cat was very scared. I wanted to see if she was microchipped and to get her spayed if she wasn't already. She meowed the entire way to the vet and sounded terrified. Upon arrival we were greeted immediately and they calmly removed her from her carrier while exposing her to cat pheromones on a soft blanket. She never came into contact with other animals at the clinic, and I think this made her feel safe. It was such a calm clinic! She just melted. She started kneading the blanket and allowed the doctor to gently turn her on the side to shave her tummy. After determining that she was already spayed and didn't need surgery, they lavished her with treats. The kitty was so happy that she followed the trail of treats right back into her carrier. It was amazing how relaxed she was due to the way Dr. Eddy handled her. I really think this vet is amazing! read more
