In March 2026, we received the news from our primary care vet that our 3-year-old Anatolian Shepherd was suffering from acute kidney failure due to a negative reaction to an NSAID prescribed for his strained hip flexor - and he needed immediate advanced medical treatment. We made the 3-hour drive from outside Wichita to VEG - Overland Park with Yannu, not knowing if he would survive the night. Ultimately, Yannu was a "guest" in the VEG ICU for 10 days. However, today, he is home and getting stronger every day. That outcome is entirely because of this amazing team and the founding principles that make VEG truly unique and immeasurably better than traditional "Vet ERs". From arrival, the care was fundamentally different. They welcomed us at the door and started intake procedures immediately. We saw Dr. Morgan within minutes; he connected with Yannu instantly and championed us through our stay, including some administrative hurdles with a specialty hospital to get critical test results. His dedication and tireless support is second to none. We had the unique opportunity to work with many doctors and nurses - every one of them playing a crucial role in Yannu's journey and ultimate path to recovery. Dr. Halpin sat on the floor of his room in the middle of the nights, answering all of our questions with patience during the first critical 24 hours. Dr. Ray cut red tape to secure a specialist transfer to the specialty hospital to get critical life-saving tests. Dr. Baxter refused to give up on our darkest night, giving us a plan and hope when we thought we had none. Crucially, the team brought in Dr. White, an Internal Medicine specialist, to consult on Yannu's case. She provided a plan and returned on her day off to check on him, even hand-feeding him sitting on the floor of his room. Under Dr. Nezerka's leadership, this culture of excellence is not only possible, it is the standard by which they operate. The nurses were the backbone of our stay. Dawn was Yannu's favorite--her green pigtails, silly endearing nicknames for him, and the way she checked in on him and even ventured into a rainstorm to help us walk him made her a friend, not just a caregiver. Chrissy was able to place his feeding tube, using a non-standard technique due to his sensitivities and strong reaction to it, and her skill and efficiencies with blood draws and catheters was a work of art. Caitlin was our constant, pulling double duty as both a day and night nurse during our stay. She explained every procedure and taught us a cream cheese pill trick we'll use forever! Kenzie's smile and upbeat energy lightened the heaviest days, and her quick attention and unwavering support were invaluable. And Constance--at 11 PM when we rushed back from the specialty hospital in tears--said "bring him back, we got you" and guided us through chaos. Everyone, including several nurses and doctors not mentioned, were part of his journey - living the VEG principles and giving amazing care and compassion as well as encouragement and guidance. Non-medical staff went above and beyond as well: Jess and Heather built a couch bed for our room. Joe from the Ace Hardware next door assembled a park bench in under 20 minutes and delivered it so Yannu could sit in the sun--that bench literally built us a path home with the doctors and nurses administering treatments on Yannu's Bench - meeting him where he was at. Having experienced a different "old school" facility with a very different outcome a few years ago, as well as at the specialty hospital, we truly understand the value of what VEG brings to the table. Their approach is a breath of fresh air and exactly what the world needs. We drove 3 hours for this care, and it was worth every mile. We are not just grateful--we are advocates. If you are looking for a team that will fight for your pet as hard as you will, this is the place. There are not enough "stars" to truly rate VEG - Overland Park, but we hope this review helps recognize their excellence of care - we would not go anywhere else for emergency care for our precious furbabies. read more

The night I brought my cat to VEG was a very busy time for this clinic, many ill and injured animals. Despite that the staff were all kind, patient, thoughtful and thorough. The staff must have all been very tired but the clinic atmosphere was stress free thanks to their professionalism and hard work and compassion. My cat was given a thorough examination, treatment, and is doing well. He's an older animal and he was handled gently and reassured by the sweet caregivers at VEG. Communication was honest but kind and I never felt pressured or treated dismissively, the care was thorough and impressive, especially considering the overall clinic patient load; the nurses and vets, desk staff, from check-in to check-out gave 100%. WOW! Absolutely can't recommend VEG ER enough -- best vet experience I've ever had with any pet, especially for an unexpected ER situation. So welcoming, calming, and hospitable. The open concept was extra appealing to us as we could see what was going on at all times and were able to be a part of our baby's (minimal) treatments, while understanding more sever situations that needed priority instead of waiting hours in the dark. I brought my elderly dog in last week, he hadn't eaten or drank for almost 4 days at this point without forcefeediing. I came in as an emergency but 4 dogs were seen before mine with less emergency situations than mine, first estimate was 1200.00 bucks, next estimate was 668.00 ,paid that for blood work only and wad told everything looked fine! Awesome for his age of 12, then the dr. Came back to me with ANOTHER estimate of 900.00 after I already paid the 668.00, wanting to do xrays, ! And that is ok as well, but within another 5 to 8 minutes another estimate was brought to me of another 1200.00, so a total of almost 3 grand for them to tell me my dog was fine, a electrolyte drink and wait a couple days and he would be fine, well 6 days into this, this is my dog... tomorrow he had an appointment with another vet, so hopefully all things are ok, I would ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND VEG VETS OFFICE, I feel like they have no compassion for pets and owners only a paycheck!!! read more

Excellent Facility and caring staff. I took my dog, Lindy in Sat., Dec 20. She had taken a turn 2-3 days earlier; in not wanting to eat and being lethargic on her eagerly anticipated walks. I had kept in touch with my normal vet, but he was not available on that Saturday, which was understandable. Upon exam, he would have had me take her to Urgent Care! I had ONLY heard about Veg Vet the day before! I reached out and Dr. Pottios called me back quickly and listened to what was going on with her. I decided to take her in right away, thankfully! Check-in beforehand online was easy. They were ready for us when we got there. As soon as we arrived, they quickly started accessing her health and it was not good. All the staff, vets and techs took excellent care of - not only my beloved Lindy; but me as well. They assessed her medical condition which was not good. I was shocked in that she was not exhibiting signs to show how sick she was. Staff gave me medical findings quickly. No rush (for me) to decide what was best for her and to take as much time as needed. They did an excellent job and were so caring in what was a terrible time for me to discover how sick she was. Lindy was calm throughout. I cannot give them enough praise and recommend them highly! read more

In the place where every pet owner hopes to never find themselves, VEG (I know, I also laughed at the name) was truly awesome. The warm, professional, compassionate staff and the bullpen setup are what distinguish this place from any other emergency vet I've been to (and we have a big-hearted lab with a ginormous appetite who has apparently made it his mission to ensure we get the full weekend and holiday tour of KC-area ER vet offerings). Some things that may help to know: This isn't a discount clinic and people aren't paid for their reviews. I was here with my pooch over Labor Day weekend and yes, it was pricey, but comparable to what I expected to pay. They do offer a 10% military discount. They will do triage and discuss an estimate of care with you. From there you will receive a text with a link explaining care and (thank goodness for those of us who rushed there without wallets or purses) Apple Pay is accepted. The entire area is open, although you can't see inside some rooms for privacy, but they're set up like an ER with glass doors that shut. If you're triaged and assessed to be okay to wait in the waiting areas, those are off to either side of the entrance with leather couches and chairs that were actually comfortable. The middle of the room consists of desks and exam tables and at least one incubator where some folks sat with smaller animals (baby kittens, bunnies). X-ray is off to the side and you can watch everything happening to your pet - which I decided not to do simply because I didn't want all 80 lbs of my lovable dummy to be distracted. The employee (I think her name was Amanda and she was awesome) narrated the entire thing for me so that I didn't have to worry. I didn't even have to ask. She and others anticipated needs of stressed owners and it seemed like these simple acts of humanity had such a positive effect on those of us waiting. They walked around offering snacks, water, etc - in fact, she waited with him so I could use the restroom. I thankfully did not have to witness procedure rooms but those appeared to be further back, again with accessible doors and windows so that folks knew at all times what was happening. Yes, the open area means you will see people coming in and out with dire cases that cannot end well. But it also means you witness VEG workers flooding resources to a pet in distress when it's needed. They will email you imaging results if you ask, so I have those to show his regular vet if needed. We had a good result on an epically busy holiday weekend, and I am grateful to each and every employee and to the wonderful people I met while waiting. read more

We had to bring our dog in after being at the vet all day with aspirated pneumonia. We have never had a sick dog so we were freaked out. Our regular vet sent them info before so when we walked in, they knew why we were there. A doctor came to talk to us within 3-5 minutes. Talked and reviewed X-rays from the vet. Within 15 minutes we were settled in a private room with our dog, getting hooked up to meds. They has blankets and pillows for him. They had a comfy couch for us that even folded out of if we wanted to stay with our pet. We left that night and we got him settled in a large kennel before we left and he was tired. The staff told us in the morning he slept great and his coughing was already improving. They had him literally eating out of their hand when we were back the next day. They couldn't be released until he could eat solid food. By 5 pm that night we have a happy dog coming home. He is now very fancy and only want wet dog food but we don't care. His pneumonia escalated quickly and we felt very lucky to be able to spend time with our dog out of a kennel. The staff were beyond nice, helpful and caring. My cat needed immediate attention when he was discovered to have a large bite wound. My regular vet couldn't see him and this place worked us right in. They were very thorough and provided treatment immediate. He made a good recovery and I'm so thankful they are there when I need them. As a pet owner, I think emergencies are the worst. Do take your dog or cat to this place. For starters everything is in the open. No private rooms. They do their vitals on your pet on your lap. You can hear all the other animals that are sick. There is no privacy. You will be traumatized. For 188 dollars I should have a private rooms. When you walk in the back is lined up with cages of animals. Everything done in the open. it looked like a war triage. When they were trying to get my dogs temperature she was in so much pain after I told them she may have an anal gland issue they jab a thermometer up her butt. We waited for almost 2 hours and finally our dog seemed better. Thankfully we left. The local vets should not recommend this place. I will be discussing this with my regular vet. No person or animal should go through what we saw. Let's have a little dignity. I will inform everyone vet in town of this practice. This place should be closed. I will work on that. read more

Every single person who works here is amazing! I had an emergency with my 16 year old cat Tyler and the care and compassion from every staff member at this location was unbelievable. While I ended up having to say goodbye to my sweet boy they made it as comfortable as they could for both of us. They treated him as if he was their pet and that meant the world to me. We got home this afternoon to find out that our 6 year old dog had gotten on the table and had gotten a set of plastic eating utensils. She had evidently chew up 2 out of three items. Off to Blue Pearl in rush hour traffic. After a stressful trip in heavy traffic we got to Blue Pearl, only to be told there Emergency side was closed! They referred me to VEG in Overland Park on 119th. I took her there and was ringed in. The way they started, all the way through the event, was truly great. I have owned, bred, trained and showed dogs for 50 years,so not your average bear when it comes to knowledge. Early in my visit the Veterinarian came over for some brief Q&A and said when he finished with his current patient. He came back in a few minutes and looked at my dog in an open area. We talked and he did an exam and said he didn't think it would be a problem. He told me what to watch for the next few days, said thanks for coming in to our clinic and sent us on our way! No hint of the, I am going to get in your pocket syndrome that follows these types of clinics. Get and understanding staff. I am calling my Vet, a personal friend of over 35 years, and telling him about my experience and urging him to recommend VEG to his clients. read more

They were horrible for giving them an hours heads up. They took my dog with out knowing everything. Waited 3 hrs while all they did was draw her blood but didnt run it. Told us doctor would be in within a couple minutes when she was in surgery. Said they would touch my dog at all and allowed her to pee and poop all over herself. They don't care!!!! read more

My husband and I brought our 5 y/o Newfoundland in after Veg ER was recommended by another vet we took him to at another urgent vet located in the northland. They had concerns about him having a GI obstruction or torsion. We gave them a call on our way in and they sent us a link to pre-register him and were ready for us when we came in. They had reviewed the insufficient X-rays from the previous location, did repeat X-rays, an exam and labs. We were able to be with him throughout the whole process as it is a mostly open environment. They explained everything thoroughly, gave us the pricing range before any of it was done and the staff all truly seem to love working with animals. They gave our sweet boy so much attention and great care. Their prices were fair and straightforward. They also try to provide a comfortable environment while you wait with a bathroom that has several nice touches like feminine products and a separate area with water, tea, coffee and snacks. We cannot thank them enough for providing such great care and I would definitely recommend them to anybody in need of an emergency vet. read more

I had the most amazing experience at VEG of Overland Park. I had a very large Barbed Wire Tear on the neck of my GWP. The staff is amazing at VEG of Overland Park. All the way from Sarah, the CEC care specialist that I spoke to on the phone on my drive back into town with my German Wirehaired Pointer not doing well. When i came into the facility, there was not any walls & separation from surgical stations & the clients. This facility is amazing! You get to be there with your pet if you want to or if your pet needs you to remain calm. The GWP breed in general does not do well in confined spaces, crates & especially this one literally has to be with me 24/7 or at least i have to be in his sightline. After I gave my information the CEC necessary, the Nurses, Emma & Emily already had my GWP back to the surgical Station & were prepping him for surgery. It was 35+ stitches & The Vet that performed the Surgery was Dr. Kaylee Visser. She is AMAZING! She truly loves what she does for a living & you can tell it... I am very experienced in surgical procedures & the Stitching process. She left both ends open to drain & she sewed like Edward scizzorhands!! I had had a few incidents with my GWP & barbed wire & cuts & tears & by far.. the size of this tear & the way she put it all back together.. YOU CAN NOT TELL WHERE HE WAS INJURED!!.. This dog is the most good looking awesomely amazing flawless full Gun dog & Service dog.. Everyone knows this dog & he is a Black, White & Rhone Machine. I was for sure worried that he was going to be Frankenstein scarred up on his neck or have nerve damage & muscle issues. He tore a small muscle that Dr. Visser noticed it & sewed it back together... He was not Frankenstein scarred up because Dr. Kaylee Visser cares & she is amazing at her sewing/ closing up skills.. It was not stapled or hurried.. I literally can not thank the staff enough & truly the CEC calmed my nerves from the start when i was asking if they had some skilled staff on the phone driving back in & when i arrived.. I directly stated.. if this is something that you can't handle at this moment, i can take him to another facility... The CEC, Sarah said they were able & willing & they would take care of this.. Then the care the 2 nurses took to get him back to the table. Emma & Emily were so instrumental to getting him on the table & hooked up & running IV & then the Oxygen over his nose. It immediately calmed me.. I was right there & encouraged to stay if i wanted to. I did not stand there & watch them because NOONE WANTS TO BE WATCHED WHILE THEY ARE WORKING!.. so i made sure i let them have the space to focus on putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.. Thank the Lord I was guided to go to VEG of Overland Park Kansas, they did an amazing job! read more
