I walked in for my appointment and stood in the lobby waiting for one of the 3 people at the desk to greet me, two of them looked at me but didn't greet me. I assumed they were busy. I then took a seat and waited for one of them to acknowledge me. 10 minutes later another person walked in and went to one of the people at the desk asking for assistant to bring in their pet. They assisted. I took that as my opportunity to ask if they could help me. Which they did and was able to check me in. I'm frustrated because nobody greeted or acknowledge me. I have a little toy Australian Shepherd that is my world! She's 11 years old and I've had her since she was about 2-3 months old. Over the summer she was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and was referred to a Cardiologist. I chose to take her here for a Cardiologist appointment. The cardiologist was absolutely fantastic as well as the other staff members. Took in our American Pitbull due to not eating for two days and very restless. Was greeted by Andy(front desk) and had a seat with eight others in the room either waiting for results or to see the vet. After 20 minutes, Sierra came out and took Chubbs back with her for evaluation. 25 minutes later, we were speaking with Dr. Todd Odle(DVM) referencing options. Blood tests showed no issue except dehydrated. We chose to have X-Ray and ultrasound performed just to make sure there were no obstructions. Tests were negative. After hydrating and some meds, they sent us home with great instructions on a bland diet for 4-5 days. Chubbs recovered quickly and back to his old self. Thanks to Dr. Odle and Sierra for their passionate care. Will definitely use this location in the future if need be. read more

Had a bit concern involving my dogs eye, gave them a call and they directed me that I did need to come in and were very kind despite some slight hysterics. They were very upfront about the initial cost to be seen and potential costs that depended on what was wrong. The wait wasn't bad for nonappointment and all the staff was super friendly. We brought our puppy here after a couple of rounds of vomiting. Since he is a small Pomeranian puppy and only 5 months old, it is very dangerous for him to throw up that much. They catered to his age and made sure he had a sanitary path to his room. He was seen promptly. We were given many options for treatment with the payment laid out before anything was due. I am so glad to have this place nearby incase we need them in the future. I am happy to say the anti nausea medicine they gave him worked wonders and my fears were subsided about it being anything more serious with the tests they did. read more

We were referred from Omaha, Nebraska, to get an MRI done on our dog Xena for suspected neurological issues. Got in within just a few days. Their knowledge and service is outstanding. Following a CT and MRI, they quickly assessed the problem areas and referred us for a radiation oncology consult. Their attention and compassion was very appreciated. Wait time was minimal. Cost was on par with expectations and level of services provided. On the upper range of the National average, but still worth it. I have used Blue Pearl in the past for specialty Vets, and my Vet has referred emergencies to them in the past. I had an issue with one of my dogs that I decided needed to be looked at. It was late afternoon and rush hour, so it took me almost 40 minutes to get to Blue Pearl. I went inside, only to be told they were not seeing emergency clients! I was given a piece of paper with three referral clinics. I drove back across town to another clinic in traffic. I spent over an hour driving around. If Blue Pearl is not seeing Emergencies, they need to make it clear on their web site. read more

The main reason why I chose BluePearl over another emergency clinic in the area were the amount of positive reviews I had read. I had never had to visit an emergency vet clinic before and was scared for my pup. The staff brought a positive energy and thoroughly answered any questions throughout the entire process. I visited in the evening on a holiday weekend, so when I arrived the waiting area was quite busy but I always felt that I had the full attention of the staff member I was speaking to. I also felt like the staff was extremely accommodating to my anxious pup and empathetic to the situation. Pricing and quotes were clearly stated so there was no room for confusion. The doctor was also clear with my options for treatment and did not try to influence me to choose additional services (which I have read has happened at other clinics). The clinic itself is clean and staff are constantly maintaining cleanliness. There is also a cleaning station to use in the waiting area. The location is convenient and easy to find, with nearby options for quick food/coffee if you have a long wait time. I noticed a vending machine and coffee available in the waiting room, which I did not use but thought was convenient for a late night visit. Overall, I cannot recommend BluePearl enough in such a stressful situation. read more

This was the worst day of my life. My heart dog, my best friend, my confidante and soulmate, Beans, crossed the rainbow bridge. I live in San Francisco and was visiting my parents when my biggest nightmare was realized. I was devastated, but it was made worse because my sweet baby had to stay in a place where no one knew her or cared for her (so I thought). After the worst weeks of my life, I got back home and there was a letter waiting for me from the wonderful people at Blue Pearl. Not only did they send me a personalized card, but each person handwrote a message about Beans. Did I cry? Yes. However, this time, they were tears of gratitude because I finally understood that even though we were strangers to the hospital, they still took great care of my sweetheart. I took my cat Tater Tot there. They lied to me 3 different times. Once when I called there, and once when I got there. They promised me they would do payment arrangements to save my cat. 4 hours later and over $4,000 they refused to work with me. They wouldn't do surgery on my cat. The third time they lied was when they called today. They told me I could have done monthly payment arrangements on the $550 they charged me for the exam, tests, and unblocking his kidney if I would have done it last week when I was checking out. They told me last week I could do 2 week payment arrangements on the $550. And they told me my cat would make it until I took my cat in to my own vet. My cat died in the middle of the night. And they should have done the surgery on my cat, because they promised we would work out some type of agreement to save him. They owe me a full refund and an apology. My cat Simba woke up on July 4th and he was screaming in pain, he couldn't use his hind legs and was dragging himself across the floor. I looked up 24 hour vets and there was an 8 hour wait at least for 2 of them. So I called Blue Pearl and they said bring him in now. Simba was in so much pain when I walked in, that someone took him and gave him fentanyl right away. After the exam, the Dr told me he was having heart failure and no blood flow to his legs was the cause of the severe pain. There was not much that could be done with a great chance of recovery, so I had to put him to sleep, he was only 3 yrs old. They were so kind and gave me plenty of time to spend with him and say goodbye. I held him in my arms as they gave the injection, they gave me time to spend with him after he was gone. They put him in a white box to send him home with me. I was very short on money and couldn't afford the euthanasia bill of $200 after paying the $188 visit and they waived the fee. I would never refer anyone other than Blue Pearl, they were the most empathetic, calming, caring people I have ever encountered at an animal clinic! read more

I took my dying dog to this location. Due to COVID, I am low on any extra or unplanned expenses. They "went outside of their 'Compassionate Care' twice which is already a violation of their policy" I literally begged them to help one more time. She said "she understood"but could not provide the service a third time. This emergency hospital has a monopoly in our area. There are only two after hours locations and every single vet in the area refers after hour needs to them. They are disgusting and in the veterinary business for profit. It's disgusting when one of the two emergency vets won't help an animal service one more night until they we could get to our regular vet. I am appalled that they use the word "compassion" and they say "they understand". They do not have to explain to their kids that their dog is dying because mommy can't afford emergency treatment. I am certain they don't care at all and know they don't have to because they have plenty other patients headed their way. I was surprised there were so many negative reviews for this Blue Pearl location. I took my pup there last night because she developed some severe hot spots, and I knew she was in too much pain and swelling to wait for a Monday morning trip to our usual vet. The front desk receptionists, technicians, and veterinarians were all very respectful, polite, and gave my pup everything she needed. I understand that I'm pretty well-versed in veterinary care, so I was pretty aware of every thing needing to be done, as well as what meds I would be taking home, but the tech and vet were very thorough in explaining the situation. As far as the wait, I had no issue being seen almost immediately. And while I waited for my pup to be treated, at least half a dozen more dogs came in to be seen and they didn't have long waits either. I had to put my cat down recently. The receptionist was amazing and friendly and had the perfect amount of sympathy for what I was going through. The tech was fine. The veterinarian was awful. He just stood there, asked if I was ready and just stared at me after it was over like he was waiting for me to finish grieving so he could leave. No words of sympathy, no bedside manner, nothing. It was a pretty terrible experience. My last cat, the clinic in the northland let me sit in a nicer area and put her down and leave when I was ready. This guy seemed impatient. They went above and beyond in testing and treatment. I guess these type of places are never cheap. Saw neurology for my sons cat. She has been on medication for seizures and is doing great!

We brought our dog to this clinic one night. Our dog is a Beagle mix. She had been playing hard that evening and after coming inside she began having a lot of pain. She was shaking and her tail looked broken. She couldn't sit down. We rushed her to Blue Pearl and they saw her almost immediately. The vet that we saw was kind and explained that Beagles and certain other hunting breeds are susceptible to getting a highly painful "limp tail." The vet said that X-rays to verify this would be expensive at the clinic (since it is an Emergency clinic). She prescribed her enough pain meds to get through the night, so she could be seen by her regular vet the next day. I do not remember the cost of the visit, as this was a few years ago. We went to our regular vet that next morning and she had (much cheaper) x-rays. The diagnosis was correct: It was "Limp Tail." I greatly appreciated the way that vet at Blue Pearl handled the situation. read more

They kept him overnight and gave some anti inflammatory meds. Last night his arm was so swollen I brought him to MU veterinary partners in Gladstone. Thank god for them. His regular vet did everything in his power but he didn't have the knowledge or medications that you, as his neurologist had. I'm not sure how someone in a role like yours has no compassion, or lack of urgency when it comes to your patients. Brought my cat in because she was getting lethargic and wasn't able to eat.  Full story, I had adopted her from KC Pet Project 3 weeks before and she had been through quite a bit before being adopted out.  I called KC Pet Project first to see if they could treat her but since it was past the 2 week window, the person that could make that decision was off on Monday.  Totally get it.  But I couldn't wait, so I took her to BluePearl to get some fluids, tests, etc.  I was told by the vet that it would cost between $1100 - $1300 for 24 hours of care.  As expensive as that is, I said okay.  It would buy me enough time to talk to KC Pet Project and hopefully get her in there for treatment. The first vet (Monday Mar 21, 2022) was very kind and helpful.  She gave me the options and time to decide what to do.  She did tell me that she wouldn't advise against euthanizing given her situation and told me during our call that evening that she wanted me to know that she wouldn't be surprised if she didn't make it through the night.  I appreciate the candor and it made for a difficult night not knowing how she was doing. Come 9 am the next morning when I get a call from the current vet on duty (Tuesday Mar 22, 2022) and she starts out with "What do you want to do with her?"... ??? I'm sorry, what do I want to do with her?  Would you mind giving me an update on how she is doing?  The vet then went through a checklist of items saying that "she is still not good" and encouraging me to euthanize.  I told her my situation and I was waiting to speak with the KC Pet Project to see if they will take her.  She told me that I have probably racked up another $1k in expenses for care this morning.  I told her that I paid for 24 hours of care.  She said, no, you have (2) 12 hour blocks running from 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am.  Huh?  I responded "That's but sh*t".  She said she does not deserve to be cursed at so she is hanging up on me.  Totally get that I should not have raised my voice and cussed.  I was emotional from them essentially telling me my cat is dying, not caring about my cat's well being and then telling me I have more fees that were never communicated.   Shortly after I received a call from someone from the Finance Department.  I calmly told her that no-one told me that there were 7-7 time blocks and I paid for 24 hours of treatment.  She said that is how they do it and it was communicated to me.  I told her that she was not in those conversations and it absolutely was not.  She raised her voice at me and said that it was and that there are doctors notes indicating such.  I have no doctor's notes and quite frankly it's irrelevant what she wrote if it was not communicated to me.  It was not on any of the paperwork I signed or that was given to me. I told her I am not paying anything else and that I would come get my cat.  She started scolding me again about their policy and I said that she is being aggressive and abrasive, so she then hung up on me.  I did not raise my voice.  I was calm and prepared to discuss but she came at me.  Remember, I was the one who has a pet passing away and just paid $1300 for a short stay at this hospital.  They were trying to get more money out of me.   After reading other reviews, this 7-7 thing is not communicated to customers and she must have been aware of their issue so she was aggressively coming back at me about how I must not have heard it.   This is a terrible experience.  You have a hospital that only cares about making money off of your sick animals.  No bedside manner whatsoever.  She did not care about me, my cat or the situation I was in.   BTW, KC Pet Project have been angels and truly care about the animals.  My poor little cat was just battling a lot. read more

I went to Blue Pearl on a referral from my Vet solely because they have neurologist on staff. My 3 1/2 lb dog had a seizure. The dog was taken into the back by a tech with no conversation with a doctor. Tests run. 45 minutes later I was put in a room for a doctor to speak with me. 30 minutes later a doctor came in - blah blah blah, we need to run these fasting acid bile tests as your dog may have epilepsy. We came back this morning where the dog was oce again wisked away at 8:00am. At 11:30 I called to ask when I could get her. They said she was done. When I went to get her they said "go to the checkout desk and pay". I said I still need to see a doctor to discuss what they did, the results and what next. She said - just checkout and tell them. I paid my $500 and my dog was brought to me. " The doctor will call you later". After calling and asking the office manager why I was charged for $150 consult and I did not see a doctor nor have I heard from one still, I received a call at 6:45pm. This is where the fun begins. All my dogs blood tests are great yet after 1 seizure she now needs an MRI and Spinal tap to rule out an infection, encephalitis, or other issue. Isn't that a bit aggressive I ask. Well "its all a grey area". This is what the neurologist she spoke with said. Keep in mind, I have never seen this neurologist. What would you do I ask? How about just trying medication for the seizure first. "Well its all grey." I would run the tests but they may all be normal. So put my 3 lb dog through a costly MRI and awful spinal tap for fun??? 24 hours and $850 later, I have zero answers as to what I need to do. This place is a money factory who care less about you or your dog. Anywhere that shuttles patients - humans or animals - in and dont talk to you is a crock. I didnt give permission for anything but you take my dog and come talk to me 45 minutes later?? I wouldn't come back here if my dogs life depended on it. read more

I was suggesting BluePearl to a friend for an emergency situation and noticed a lot of bad reviews. I don't understand why people expect to pay regular prices for an emergency service. Of course your geriatric dog staying at an ER for 5 days is going to cost you an arm and a leg...take them to your regular vet if you want day rates. My dogs life is more important than splitting hairs over costs and this hospital took him in for an emergency scoping procedure and he's happy and healthy to this day 2 years later. I'll never regret bringing him here. I actually took him to the north location who didn't have the ability to complete the surgery that night and they recommended me to drive down to OP. They called ahead and this location took him right in. I was home within 4 hours (not a lot for an ER!!) they took priority of patients properly, i hate to brake it to some of you that some procedures are more time sensitive than others. If you're that much more concerned over costs than your pets life....get pet insurance or don't have a pet. Shout out to Blue Pearl and thank you to your service to the KC area. After an unexpected, dire cancer diagnosis, I researched veterinary specialists from Colorado to Missouri. Deciding who to trust with my kiddo was not undertaken lightly. Based on a variety of factors--including her clinical academic teaching--I ultimately decided to rely on Dr. Heather Millard at Blue Pearl. Dr. Millard was truly amazing. She was clear about the dire situation throughout the process. She clearly communicated the options and the dangers of each. She clearly expressed that Pippa was in a precarious situation due to cancer, underlying health issues, and age. But she was confident in her abilities as a surgeon and clearly knew what she was doing. She even participated in the pre-op colonoscopy (performed by another doctor) to learn as much about Pippa as she could before surgery. Dr. Millard's surgical skills were spot on. Unfortunately, Pippa struggled during recovery (due to her underlying conditions) and ended up in ICU. Dr. Millard pulled together a team of experts--Drs. Bragg, Gill, and Weinstein--who were absolutely remarkable. I honestly don't know how they did what they did. Their knowledge and expertise saved Pippa. Once Pippa recovered, Dr. Millard saw her through the healing process; the surgery was a success. Pippa is now seeing Dr. Heeb for oncological treatment, which is going well. On a more personal note, Dr. Millard was professionally compassionate throughout the months-long process. I was a mess, but her understanding and rightly-placed confidence gave me hope. Dr. Millard took the time to use FaceTime (for appointments and to let me see Pippa) since I could not be in the hospital due to the Covid-19 restrictions. I want to thank everyone at Blue Pearl for the way they treated us when we took our Sadie there to be put to sleep. We were aloud to have the last few minutes of private time before she was went to sleep. They explained every step they took before letting my grandson hold her as she went to sleep.
