The staff that is there are either poorly trained, burnt out or just don't care. They are certainly not adhering to any guidelines about patient to caregiver ratios. If there are laws that govern this, they surely are breaking them. My father in law not being changed for hours at a time. Not getting meds on time or not at all. Food you would not eat yourself is you were starving. Staff just lies about everything. They should be investigated and closed down! I only gave one star because you can't leave none.

During that one week, she was initially roomed with a patient suffering from dementia who was later moved as she was having frequent outbursts. However, the woman tried on several occasions to return to the room and was yelling at my mom through the door that my mom was trying to steal from her. On a separate occasion two individuals tried entering the room. This caused my mom unnecessary stress for her safety and peace of mind and concern on my part for how well everyone is being supervised and cared for; especially those who either can't advocate for themselves or don't have friends/family checking on them. Both my mom and her new roommate waited anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour any time they requested toileting assistance causing her roommate to wet herself due to the wait. Rather than receive an apology the roommate was yelled at for 20 minutes (witnessed by my sister who was too afraid to say anything for fear of repurcussions to our mom). We understand the facility is short staffed but raising one's voice to any patient is unacceptable. Ants were observed in their room to the extent that my mom and roommate were moved to the hallway while the room was cleaned. Prescriptions that my mom needed upon discharge (24 hr home care versus remaining any longer at the facility which would have otherwise been weeks) were not called into the pharmacy due to "computer issues" We were told this was consistent with what others have observed here and at other facilities which is simply unconscionable and sad that no one was surprised that this was our experience as well.

The bed that she had in her room was broken from the moment she arrived. Finally, after a much complaining someone came and pumped air into it. An hour later the air had leaked out. With regards to her gluten allergy.... she was told that they felt low gluten was okay. She has lost an extreme amount of weight as a result. When she confronted staff about the gluten they told her to avoid eating the bread and pasta. The next morning a croissant breakfast sandwhich was served. Another issue which is paramount is their fire safety procedures. The fire alarm went off randomly for a 2 to 3 hour period. When she rolled out to the desk ... she was told ... there is no fire that I can see and besides it was set off in the adjacent building but they weren't sure where. There was no evacuation of patients nor was there any response by fire personnel. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to be placed there for rehab!!!! Finally, certain staff are rude. The staff wait anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours to respond to a bell call (a bathroom request that requires assistance by staff). Once she gets to the point that she can't wait and attempts to assister herself and falls then they get upset.

Want to know why security is so tight at this hospital? It's because of the pathetic and lack of…read moretimely care you receive and then pay through the soul for. My wife has Dementia/Alzheimer's. It's all in her records. Everything my wife has is documented through the Upstate system. I had an ambulance bring my wife in on 6/20/2026 because she was indicating she was in pain. I had already heard the nightmares of walking in to the ER and thought coming by ambulance would be more attentive to my wife's situation and for that part, I was right. While checking my wife in, I indicated numerous times that my wife has Dementia/Alzheimer's and cannot be left alone because she would be confused and frightened. What did they do? They put her into a room with FOUR(4) other patients with nothing but a thin curtain separating everyone and left her alone. I had a feeling that they left her alone and I was right and when I pressured them, they let me go sit with her. For the next 10 hours, I could not believe what my wife and I had to experience. Insane waiting times for everything. Hearing the other three patients problems and resolves. Hearing the other patients in pain. Hearing the other patients on their phones. Hearing what the other patients were playing on their phones to kill the egregious wait times. The loudness. The banging of walls and furniture being dragged from one place to another. Every sound that was to be heard left my wife thinking it something to do with her and the whole of it all was just blowing her mind. There was bits and pieces of medical trash on the floor everywhere. We were right outside the nursing station and it sounded more like a bar because the profanity and defamed talk about other patients left me completely in shock. After many, many hours of waiting my wife was finally getting tested. Bloodwork, CT scans, EKG scans, X-rays. When all was said and done, I reminded the nurse Darwin twice to please make sure to remove all the electrode connectors before discharging her to go home. Guess what I found when I got my wife home home? A body full of electrodes and tapings that were never removed, leaving me to have to do it myself. I will say that the staff and doctors were polite and courteous to our faces, albeit the experience as a whole was more like something out of a third world country. The outrageous prices and costs that come after this woeful experience does not justify anything whatsoever and that's why security is so tight in these places. Once you see the bill, you'll want to go in there and take things into your own hands. YOU are not getting what you pay so much money for out of your hard earned paychecks and your Gestapo styled taxes that are stolen from you. When the prices paid matches the experience occurred, then we will have nothing to gripe about. I'm embarrassed to say that I was born in this building when it was under the Community General Hospital flagship. Something has to give to justify the ways and means. I never thought I would say to stay away from all these hospitals unless it's absolutely necessary...but yes, stay away.
