Worst place on earth to go. I wouldn't take my dog there…read more My husband needed physical therapy and rehabilitation after being discharged from the hospital following extensive surgery. Before he was transferred, the hospital assured us that his INR (blood clotting level) would be checked every day because it was not where it needed to be. He spent 8 days at this rehab facility and received physical therapy only 3 times. When I spoke with a nurse about his INR, I was told that blood was only drawn on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays--not daily as we had been assured. He was stuck 10 times while they attempted to draw blood, and they couldn't get it. During his entire 8-day stay, his blood was successfully drawn only twice, with the second draw occurring on his discharge day. The nursing care was also unacceptable. On one occasion, my husband waited 3 1/2 hours for a nurse to come help him onto a bedpan. Later that same day, he needed to use the bathroom again and waited 1 1/2 hours with no one coming. I eventually had to take him to the bathroom myself. The following day, he waited another 2 hours for assistance. One day, a nurse came in, moved him from his bed to a chair, and then never checked on him again for the rest of the shift. We were repeatedly told they were short-staffed, and one nurse even blamed it on having an Usher concert the night before. Regardless of the reason, patients who need assistance should not be left waiting for hours. The dietary care was just as disappointing. The dietician knew about my husband's extensive surgery, and we specifically asked for plenty of protein to help with healing. He offered an egg or tuna salad sandwich with his dinner trays, and we said yes. He never received one. His meals were consistently cold and unappetizing. When my husband needed to go to his surgeon for a follow-up appointment, not one person helped me get him to the car or into the vehicle. The same thing happened when he was discharged. I was left to handle it myself. At discharge, we were told that referrals had been made for in-home health care and his orthopedic doctor. Once we got home, I contacted the in-home health agency and was told they had never received a referral. I called his orthopedic doctor's office and was told the same thing. I spent the entire day trying to contact the facility, only to get voicemail after voicemail. Nobody called me back. We were from another state and relied on the hospital's recommendation when choosing this facility. The physical therapists at the hospital had recommended it, but they were not aware of another nearby option that was covered by his Medicare insurance. We later looked at the reviews and saw that Medicare had also raised concerns about this facility. The entire experience was extremely frustrating and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable. Patients recovering from major surgery deserve proper monitoring, timely assistance, adequate rehabilitation, appropriate nutrition, and a safe transition home. The only positive thing I can say is that Antwon and Dan were good nurses. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for rehabilitation care. We will never go back.

My mom was recently a patient in Menorah Park for one week. She was there in connection with…read morerecovery / rehabilitation following hip surgery. During that one week, she was initially roomed with a patient suffering from dementia who was later moved as she was having frequent outbursts. However, the woman tried on several occasions to return to the room and was yelling at my mom through the door that my mom was trying to steal from her. On a separate occasion two individuals tried entering the room. This caused my mom unnecessary stress for her safety and peace of mind and concern on my part for how well everyone is being supervised and cared for; especially those who either can't advocate for themselves or don't have friends/family checking on them. Both my mom and her new roommate waited anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour any time they requested toileting assistance causing her roommate to wet herself due to the wait. Rather than receive an apology the roommate was yelled at for 20 minutes (witnessed by my sister who was too afraid to say anything for fear of repurcussions to our mom). We understand the facility is short staffed but raising one's voice to any patient is unacceptable. Ants were observed in their room to the extent that my mom and roommate were moved to the hallway while the room was cleaned. Prescriptions that my mom needed upon discharge (24 hr home care versus remaining any longer at the facility which would have otherwise been weeks) were not called into the pharmacy due to "computer issues" We were told this was consistent with what others have observed here and at other facilities which is simply unconscionable and sad that no one was surprised that this was our experience as well.

I have a neighbor that was placed in Loretto after back surgery. She has other health issues…read moreincluding a gluten allergy. The bed that she had in her room was broken from the moment she arrived. Finally, after a much complaining someone came and pumped air into it. An hour later the air had leaked out. With regards to her gluten allergy.... she was told that they felt low gluten was okay. She has lost an extreme amount of weight as a result. When she confronted staff about the gluten they told her to avoid eating the bread and pasta. The next morning a croissant breakfast sandwhich was served. Another issue which is paramount is their fire safety procedures. The fire alarm went off randomly for a 2 to 3 hour period. When she rolled out to the desk ... she was told ... there is no fire that I can see and besides it was set off in the adjacent building but they weren't sure where. There was no evacuation of patients nor was there any response by fire personnel. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to be placed there for rehab!!!! Finally, certain staff are rude. The staff wait anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours to respond to a bell call (a bathroom request that requires assistance by staff). Once she gets to the point that she can't wait and attempts to assister herself and falls then they get upset.

I went there ONLY because it was Memorial day weekend, and my primary care doctor was not available and told me I should go there. Once there, the receptionist had the personality of a rotten potato. I was suffering from SEVERE, acute pain in my lower abdomen. After an hour of waiting, I was finally brought inside to triage. The young nurse was SUPER nice and efficient. It was all downhill from there. The young attending physician was chipper, but TOTALLY clueless as I explained my symptoms. After drawing blood, taking a urin sample, and running an ultrasound and a CT scan, I waited 6 hours for them to tell me they had no clue what was wrong with me and sent me home, without so much as one aspirin. Two days of extreme agony later, I passed a huge 9mm X 7mm kidney stone, that looked like it was made out of broken glass. The ER physician was incompetent, the "reading" physician that looked at my CT scans and didn't see a huge kidney stone blocking my urethra wasn't even at the hospital, he was in MICHIGAN! Total incompetence on the part of the ER "physicians", to the point I called the head of the ER department and he ADMITTED that "mistakes were made" that night". Upstate doesn't care about your well being, they only care about making money. Six hours in that ER, with NOT even a clue of what might be wrong with me, resulted in an itemized invoice for just over $10,000.00! The CT scan alone was $4932.00, and one bag of IV solution cost $1600.00. THIS is why everyone's insurance premiums are so ridiculously high.
